Theory-based treatment planning, the type you will use throughout this course, is informed and guided by your theoretical orientation. Incorporating your theoretical orientation into treatment planning will help you set goals and choose treatment techniques and interventions appropriate for the client(s) you serve (Gehart & Tuttle, 2003). This week, you apply two counseling theories, Bowenian and structural, to formulate your treatment planning and apply appropriate interventions.

In this Assignment, you watch videos of counselors demonstrating the use of Bowenian and structural theories in family counseling. You then formulate treatment plans for the couples and/or families in the videos, applying the theories in question and justifying the use of appropriate interventions.

The Assignment (2–3 pages)

Based on the theory demonstrated in both videos:

  • Define the problem in each video.
  • Create a theory-based treatment plan, including short- and long-term goals for the couples and/or families.
  • Explain two theory-based interventions you would use and justify your selection.
  • Explain one anticipated outcome of each theory-based intervention.

Option #1: Future of the Workplace

As we have learned, the nature of the workplace is changing rapidly. The rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence has decimated the employment prospects for many employees in many industries. It has also changed the nature of the role of human resource professionals. With that as a background, compose a paper that addresses the following:

  • Provide a general overview on the rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the workplace. Present evidence that the use of robots and artificial intelligence is increasingly taking the employment opportunities to which humans have traditionally performed, including the level and scope of this trend.
  • Assess how this trend has affected the promise and security of continued employment for some/many in the United States economy, including an assessment on how the nature and type of employment is changing for the typical US worker (e.g., more part-time employment or static wages).
  • Present the criteria a human resource professional should review before determining whether a position should be filled by a robot or through artificial intelligence.
  • Discuss how these trends will affect the role of human resources, including the typical human resource functions such as recruitment, compensation, labor relations, risk and liability management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Finally, discuss the role and duty a human resource professional has to ensure full employment for employees and, most importantly, the responsibility human resources should assume for those workers displaced by a world where robots and artificial intelligence are increasingly performing.

Your paper should be:

  • 12-15 pages (approximately 3,000-4,500 words) in length (not including title and reference pages).

Discussion

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of both team-based performance management  and individual-based performance management. Suggest three pros and  three cons of each type of management. Justify your response.
  • Next, choose three of the best practices for addressing the facets  of team-based performance management. Recommend a strategy for your  current or past organization to incorporate the identified practices.  Provide a rationale for your response.

Business Performance Management Midterm

Provide two examples of actions management can take that will result in poor performance from their team.  Which of the historical breakthroughs in management theory may address the problems you’ve described?

What do you anticipate will be the next ‘big thing’ in management theory?  What needs or new developments in business do you propose will lead to the ‘big thing’ you’ve described?

What actions and responsibilities does the human resources department have to contribute to the organization’s performance management efforts?

You’ve learned about incentive programs and the balanced scorecard.  How might you tie incentive programs to the balanced scorecard to enhance organizational performance?

If you were in charge of the accounting department in your organization what actions would you take to ensure the accounting function was used appropriately to maximize their contributions to the organizational performance management effort? 500 words each question

Employers sometimes violate employment laws because they lack knowledge and understanding of how these laws apply to their workplace. Determine two major employment laws which a practice manager could unintentionally violate. Next, recommend the main steps that the manager should take to avoid the risk of breaking those laws.

Topic: How do you motivate employees?

As I’ve mentioned before, one of the dilemmas in leadership today is the ability for the designated individual to actually lead the team. Most leaders appear to be more concerned with designating tasks, instead of building a unified work environment. There are many challenges that comes with leading a team. However, the implementation of collaboration and effective communication can alleviate a lot of issues, while motivating employees.

Employing a collaborative work environment can definitely aid in the increase of productivity, among the employees, within the organization. “A team that works well together can succeed together and produce great results” (Reeves, Xyrichis, and Zwarenstein, 2018). Employees will strive to achieve goals more, if they feel a sense of belonging within the company. The team will develop a sense of alliance as they, collectively, work towards achieving a common goal. Bolman and Deal (2017) discussed that building a positive and collaborative work environment can guide, motivate, and inspire the team to produce their best performance. Communication is, also, a vital component in managing and motivating others. I believe that the members of a team are more prone to fully engaging in their task when they’re able to effectively communicate with each other and their leader. Communicating with the group will assist the leader in being cognizant of the team’s issues that might negatively impact the success of the team. For example, as a leader, I can ask the team to outline their strengths and weaknesses and then find ways to utilize the team’s strengths to improve some of those weaknesses. Also, I can ask my team to divulge ways that they feel the team could improve. Again, it is the act of using communication and collaboration to better the business.

I believe an effective leader should utilize team development and team building approaches to assist in increasing cohesion in the workplace. These methods can increase engagement amongst the team, but it must start with communication first. The team needs to have an understanding of its’ purpose and the roadmap to obtain set goals.

CLASSMATE 2

Motivation is an essential skill and capability that leaders want to ensure they possess. Part of the motivation consists of empowering individuals. Motivation can be defined as one willing to complete a task with conditions of receiving something in return or satisfying a need (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Wolter, 2019). Motivation can come in different forms. For instance, motivation can be money, food, bonuses, parties, etc. Motivating employees can increase and improve productivity as well as job satisfaction. Additionally, motivating employees can assist in establishing a positive atmosphere.

While I do not think motivating employees is a hard task to complete, I also do not think it is an easy task. Maslow believed that people are motivated by a variety of wants (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Maslow developed a hierarchy of needs, rating the needs from lowest to highest. The bottom of the pyramid consists of one’s physiological needs. Next is the need for safety. The need for social belonging is next. One’s esteem is second to last in the pyramid. Lastly, the pyramid consists of achieving self-actualization. For some working for an organization is not all about receiving a paycheck. However, for some, it may be having a sense of belonging to something bigger than them.

When it comes to motivating employees, I try to consider myself in the equation. If it were me, what would motivate me? As a leader, I would have implemented incentives to motivate my employees. Some incentives I would incorporate is a free dress day, a pizza day, earning a half a day, or even earning a full day off. Developing teams in some organizations and having them achieve a goal for a reward can also motivate them to increase their productivity. I think it is important to empower individuals at the start of their shift, so I believe just sending a positive email can help jump start my employee’s day. Also, during meetings, I would leave the floor open to questions or concerns to be addressed. Making employees feel important matters to me and my leadership capabilities will reflect that. It is one thing to be in a leadership role, but it is another to actually lead and empower.
