  1. You’ve been told that the HR Director is pleased with the work you’ve completed for the organization and would like to take your contribution to the next level. She’d like you to review several strategic reports on the organization and provide feedback on how you think Southwest HR should move forward.

    Review the recommended sources in addition to your own research.

    Compile a strategy recommendation to the HR Director to be used for company-wide decisions. Include the following information in your report:

    • An executive summary of the HR strategy project (An executive summary is a brief version of the entire report, designed for busy executives to read if they don’t have time to read the full report. The first page of this sample executive summary explains what is required. For the purposes of this assignment, the executive summary will likely be around half of a page. My recommendation is to write the executive summary last.)
    • An analysis of current strategies and issues
    • Identify the type of strategy Southwest Airlines is following.
    • Identify 3 HRM implications for Southwest Airlines.
    • Develop and justify business strategies for each of the 3 HRM implications.
    • Determine an HR strategy.
    • Use at least 2 sources other than those provided. Review the following sources to assist with your recommendation:
    • Southwest Airlines case study on pages 101-102 of the text.
    • SWOT report in detail on Business Source Complete.
    • Format your citations according to APA guidelines.

  • Choose two (2) factors from those discussed in the textbook that  may cause a possible breach of an implied contract. Suggest two (2)  strategies that an employer may use to avoid these possible breaches  from occurring. Justify your response.
  • Select two (2) of the following acts: National Labor Relations  Act (NLRA), Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act,  Reduction in Force (Age), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)  and Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA). Determine two (2)  major challenges that each of the selected acts may cause within an  organization, and then outline a plan to prevent the challenges from  adversely affecting the organization or employees. The Role of Crisis-Responding Organizations

Understanding crisis response requires knowledge of the “working parts,” or organizations that respond to crises or disasters. Learning about international, national, and regional organizations in your area and the role each organization plays in disaster response is paramount to creating a crisis plan. A working knowledge of responding organizations is an essential element in leading other professionals and/or organizations in crisis response.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Course Introduction area in the navigation bar on the left. Keep this overview in mind as you work through each week of the course.
  • Review Chapter 17 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, and focus on the different organizations and groups that respond to disasters and their roles in responding to them.
  • Review the websites for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), American Red Cross, International Relief & Development, Salvation Army, and Mennonite Disaster Service to determine the role each organization plays in a crisis, the types of professionals that respond to crises, how responders are selected, and how each organization is funded for crisis response.
  • Review the media in this week’s Learning Resources, paying close attention to types of crises and who responds to them.
  • Explore organizations in your state or region that respond to disasters and examine their roles and the interactions of those roles with international and national organizations.
  • Review additional websites to develop an understanding of the growing field of crisis response.
  • Select three national and/or international organizations and think about the crisis-responding roles of each.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of each of the national and/or international organizations you selected. Then analyze the crisis-responding roles of each of the organizations you selected. Be specific and provide examples.

Note: Put the names of the organizations you selected in the first line of your post. You will be asked to respond to a colleague who chose at least one different organization than you did.

Leading and Managing the HR Project

Continuing from the previous assignment, it is now important to consider your approach to leading and managing your HR project. Tightly structured projects tend to restrict cross-organizational communication. As such, objectives originate at the top of the project and are subdivided as they are passed down, resulting in little opportunity for creative contributions. Effective leadership and managing of the project can greatly improve communication and team contributions.

Instructions

Write a 5–6 page paper in which you:

  1. Review and understand the types of project manager      power listed and defined in the textbook, select and define any two      you feel would be relevant to your current project, and explain why. Be      specific.
  2. Identify and briefly discuss a minimum of      four outcomes (possible issues) resulting from managing projects, and      address how you might resolve the issues. Be clear with your rationale.
  3. Discuss some increased challenges a project manager may      face when leading virtual or global project teams. Recommend a few      strategies to deal with the challenges.

Continuing from Assignment 1, you were selected as the new HR director for the retail company and now have been in the position for approximately 6 months. Your approach to strategy, planning, and selection have been quite successful thus far, and now it is time to address the organization’s expectation for performance and development of employees since these components of HR strategy are critical in achieving business outcomes and success. 

Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you: 

  • Critically analyze and discuss any researched (web or textbook) training process model you may consider for use in developing employees (here’s an idea:https://educationaltechnology.net/the-addie-model-instructional-design/or exhibit 7-1, page 230 in the text book). Then, identify and discuss some possible challenges that might be faced in implementing a new training process in the company. 
  • List and briefly discuss at least three (3) types or methods of training that can be used for employee training. Of the 3, which would you select to train the retail employees, and why? Be specific. 
  • Differentiate the concept of performance management and performance appraisal with three (3) to four (4) key points. Then, make your case to leadership for or against using annual performance appraisals in the organization. Be specific with your perspective.
