Reflect on what you have learned about effective communications. As you have learned, the interview provides you an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to communicate verbally. As you are learning in this unit, the Thank You letter you send after your interview is a written communication designed to close the sale and get you a job offer.

With this in mind, discuss the following:

  • Verbal communication skills
    • What are 2 barriers you experience when you are trying to engage in effective verbal communication?
    • How can you overcome each of the barriers you identified? (For each barrier describe two (2) approaches you could use to overcome them)
  • Written communication skills
    • What are 2 barriers you experience when you are trying to engage in effective written communication?
    • How can you overcome each of the barriers you identified? (For each barrier describe two (2) approaches you could use to overcome them)
  • Discuss how you can use these approaches in your:
    • Interviews
    • Cover and thank you letters

Book Review Instructions

Read the following: Grudem, W. (2003). Business for the glory of God: The Bible’s teaching on the moral goodness of business. Wheaton: IL: Crossway. ISBN: 9781581345179.

Begin reading during the first module/week of the course. In Module/Week 5, you will submit a book review of 1,000 words in current APA format. Choose 1 chapter and write an in-depth review of the chapter you choose. Discuss 1 or 2 main points with which you agree and 1 or 2 with which you do not agree, supporting your thoughts with well-reasoned arguments. Your analysis must also be supported by at least 3 sources other than the Grudem book, and by biblical principles. Each additional source must be cited in-text and in a reference list in current APA format. This review will be evaluated based on the grading rubric provided.

How are critical thinking and decision making related? Identify and discuss at least 3 heuristic decision-making strategies for leaders. 

  1. Are leaders thinking critically when we use heuristics in strategic decision making? Explain your answer. 
  2. Practical Application: Describe a decision a leader that you are familiar with has recently made. The decision can be of a personal or professional nature. Assess whether the leader seemed to use heuristics vs. critical thinking in their decision-making. Discuss why one method would be more effective than the other in reaching the decision.
