You have been engaged as an Organizational Development (OD) consultant by an organization with which you have deep familiarity that has endeavored to implement a system of organizational change and has failed. For the purposes of the assignment, the organization should be one that you know well, such as your employer, former employer, or a client. For the sake of confidentiality, you may disguise the actual identity of the organization. The chief executive officer (CEO) of the organization has asked for your help to determine what went wrong with the failed change attempt and to develop an action plan for re-engaging the organization with change efforts that are based upon systems thinking and decision making.

Stages for Developing the Organizational Change Action Plan

Start with a thorough analysis of the current situation, an analysis of the factors requiring the organization to adopt change, and an analysis of the failed change effort. Ground your analysis in a comprehensive review of the literature that is pertinent to the organizational environment as well as for academic and practitioner support for the new action plan that you will develop.

The action plan that you will develop must be developed using a system thinking and decision-making approach, and it should consist of the following stages:

  • Guiding the organization to develop new cognitive capacities
  • Guiding the organization to develop new action rules
  • Guiding the organization to develop new values and assumptions
  • Guiding  the organization to implement the organizational change initiative

Organizational Change Action Plan (Completed in Week 10)

    • Background  of the change initiative (Week 1)
    • Review of  the failed change effort (Week 2)
    • Potential consequences if effective change is not adopted (Week 2)

csu discussion

Emotions, mood, and organizational culture can create a positive or negative experience for employees. They can also cause problems for leaders.

  1. Imagine a leader arriving at work each day with a very emotional or moody disposition. How would you handle someone who has an uneven personality and brings a negative air and context to the workplace and organization? How might this impact organizational effectiveness? Support your answer with research.
  2. Practical Application: Describe your experiences with someone who is moody and who has responsibilities of decision making for an organization. What impact does this have on his or her directives for the organization? If you have no such experiences, try interviewing a friend or family member about their experiences. Alternately, you may research an organization or leader. If you choose this option, you must support your findings with credible reports or articles.

Week 5

Your written paper assignment should be submitted this week.

For the paper, your assignment is to write a 3- to 5-page paper, double-spaced and with 12-point font (approximately 1,500 words), describing the status of your needs assessments efforts for your Individual Course Project. The paper should incorporate concepts discussed in the text, articles, case studies, and discussions, and it should describe the methods and processes being utilized to gather the information. The paper should include information regarding the three levels of analysis (individual, task, organization) and should also discuss any difficulties experienced in getting the data. You should also discuss your initial insights regarding the data and your thoughts about a training intervention that could be pursued as a result of these data.

This is part of your Individual Course Project, which is due in Week 7.

HR

The global pandemic we are facing today is prompting a rise in union organizing. Take a look at this article and video and then do a bit of research: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/04/28/coronavirus-labor-movement-we-cant-go-back-way-things-were/3042780001/.

Tell us why employees are turning to unions more today and how union representation might help them. Then tell us – if you were an HR leader in an organization that was facing an organizing campaign today fueled by some of these concerns, what changes would you recommend that your employer make to help protect and support employees and why.

Support your answers with articles from legitimate sources (no think tanks, please).
