HUM115 Week 3 Identifying Fallacies Assessment

In this week’s readings and activities, you learned about errors in thinking and informal fallacies. Both of these can occur in arguments, and they affect the overall quality of the argument.

Complete the Identifying Fallacies Assessment by following the instructions within the assessment. The final page of the assessment will provide you with a summary of your score and a confirmation that your results have been sent to your faculty member. You will not need to submit anything additional.

Note: You will have 1 attempt at each question. If you leave the assessment before it is completed, your progress will be saved, but you cannot revisit any questions that have already been completed.

Identifying Fallacies Assessment

This week, you learned that fallacies are errors in logic that present themselves in a variety of formats. It is important that you can recognize fallacies when they occur in real-life situations. In this assessment, you will be presented with 14 different real-life examples of fallacies. Some examples will be presented as a graphic or photograph. Others will be contained in audio or video clips.  After reviewing each example, you will be given a list of possible fallacies presented in the example. Your goal is to identify the fallacy presented in the material you just experienced.

This is not a timed assessment, so be thoughtful in your responses.

I must have ORIGINAL work only with UP TO DATE references.

In addition to the above resources, the only other allowable website sources you may use are (1) Society for Human Resource Management [SHRM], (2) Association for Talent Development [ATD], (3) WorldatWork, (4) Human Capital Institute [HCI]. You may also use academic journal articles found on Strayer’s Online Library at research.strayer.edu

Write a six- to seven-page paper in which you do the following:

Analyze different types of strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, and focus or niche) and select which one you would deem more appropriate for an “efficiency-minded” retail organization and explain your rationale. How would the selected strategy ultimately affect how HR does its job? Examine the four approaches to job design or redesign and provide an example (not a definition) of each. Then, make a case to the interviewing panel on the importance of effective job design applications in supporting the overall strategic goals of the organization.  Consider challenges and constraints associated with recruiting workers and identify and discuss at least two issues. What advice would you give to ease your selected issues? Be specific.  List and describe 2–3 candidate selection process ideas that might add value and overall effectiveness to the process. Example: 5 Tips for Designing an Effective Employee Selection System. Also, what problems should HR and management teams avoid during the selection process? Use at least four quality academic resources, 1 of which must be the assigned textbook.  Internet websites are not to be used in this course unless they come from the course resources list in the course information section of this course. You may also use  the Strayer University Library to locate additional sources to support your work.

Managers Can Lead Career Development

Background:

“Karla, two members of your staff came to see me and share a few areas of concern this morning,” explained Alley when she and Karla met in a conference room.

“I wish they had come to me first,” Karla said impatiently. “What were their issues?”

“Well, to be honest, they do not feel you are really committed to their development and that you lack concern for them.”

“Alley, I say yes to 90% of development requests from training, to tuition assistance, to conferences and even out-of-branch rotations. I go out of my way to develop my people.”

“I know, Karla! You have a great record on paper.”

“What do you mean? Where else do I need to have a great record? Isn’t what can be measured what is important?”

“Karla, I think the challenge you are facing is difficulty in projecting genuine and individual concern for them. I am convinced, you do all you can, but they do not seem to feel your concern, and that is where it really counts.”

“What can I do to change that, Alley? I care about my employees. I really do! How can I show them that?”

 Question:

  • What could be the barrier or barriers that exist between Karla and her direct reports?

BUS 409: Compensation Management

Respond to the following:

Popular press and media accounts generally suggest that executives are overpaid. For example: the average yearly salary of a CEO of Fortune 500 company in 2018 was $14.5 million. The average yearly salary of a regular worker was $39,888.

  • Justify why the CEO’s pay is appropriate.
    • Support your response with specifics.
