Energy resource managers analyze human uses and impacts on resources and propose sound conservation practices. However, economic growth and societal expansion compete with resource conservation and restrictions. Resource usage, conservation, and preservation need to be balanced in order to promote sustainability. Visit the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) to learn how energy (nuclear, solar, wind, etc.) in your state is generated.

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

• Describe one energy resource that is readily available in your community or state. What are the impacts and/or consequences of delivering it to your community? How do your actions impact the provision of this resource?

Considering the concepts behind supply chain management, what are your thoughts concerning utilizing “hard metrics” such as production, inventory, location, transport, and information as a model for human resource management processes? After restructuring, what specific challenges or adaptations would be made to better align staff development goals with business results where hard metrics are concerned? Should some inventory process of human capital resources be made available prior to implementing hard metrics?

• Write a 500-word review of the article or video. In writing the review you should consider the following:
• Objectives: what does the article or video set out to do?
• Concepts: what are the central concepts? Are they clearly defined?
• Argument: What is the central argument?
• Contribution: how well does the work advance our knowledge? 

Note as the reader I am not interested in a general descriptive overview of the article or video. You should be providing a critical assessment of the ideas and arguments that are being presented by the author. 

 Assume that the reader of the paper is a business owner or senior level manager. Your paper should present a clear analytical review of the human resource topic you have chosen. Your paper should include: 

a. An introduction and conclusion 

b. A clear description of the issue or topic. Explain why the topic is a something worth investigating (you can reference your popular press article here). Present a review of the issue/topic and inform the reader of how it came to be. Describe how the issue/topic matters. Why is it an issue or concern? 

c. Compare and contrast the issue using specific information or details (with appropriate sources) from both the manager side and the employee side of the issue. Why would this issue/concern matter to a business? To an employee? What impact would this issue have on the business or on the employee?

 d. What action should manager or owners take in regard to this issue/topic to resolve the issue? Use sources throughout this section to justify your thoughts. THIS SECTION SHOULD BE DETAILED and should reference Human Resource centered strategies to address the issue/topic. 

The purpose of this paper is for you to identify a current issue or topic in Human Resources that a business in your field or discipline would face. Students are expected to research to learn how to stay current on HR related topics as it is a critical need for a manager, as is the knowledge of how to strategically plan for the Human Resources function. 

The paper requires you to develop a clear analysis based on current research of a topic or issue in Human Resources. You want to conduct a scholarly review of the literature, and you must have a minimum of four citations from scholarly sources (see the attached list of sample scholarly sources). Your reference page will include at least 6 total references (4 scholarly sources, the class textbook, the popular press article). Keep in mind that this paper is an analysis of the topic/issue and is not merely a summary of the bibliographic list of resources. Your paper must use scholarly references and it must be written in a narrative format synthesizing the research from your citations, which must be in presented in APA format (this means you need both in text citations and a reference page). The paper should be NO LONGER than 5 pages and include at the least the following: 

1. Introduction and Purpose of the Paper 

2. General Findings of the Research (including definition of the issue) 

3. Business Recommendation (with evidence that the solution recommended is a good one) 

4. Conclusions 

5. Reference Page (this is NOT included in the 5 page limit) 

Organizations are increasingly concerned with sustainability and corporate social responsibility – whether for business, legal, or values-based reasons. The HR function is uniquely positioned to assist in both developing and implementing a sustainability strategy.

Go to The Guardian’s Corporate Social Responsibility page and select a video or article from the list provided. If possible, avoid selecting videos or articles already chosen and discussed by classmates. After viewing the video or reading the article you have selected, provide a summary of it and a response to the following discussion prompts:

• Explain how the organization in the video or article demonstrates corporate social responsibility.
• Explain HR’s role in formulating corporate values and developing an overall business sustainability strategy.
• Identify examples of sustainable HR practices that support a culture of corporate social responsibility.

Scope Management and Health Checks

Your brother in-law is about to submit a scope statement to the town council for the July 4th parade and picnic he has volunteered to project manage. Your town has about 6,000 households, and this is the first time the town council gave a tentative approval for the parade and picnic. The council president thinks that about $1,500 can be allocated for the event. Since your brother in-law knows you are taking a project management class, he has asked that you to look over his draft scope statement. He knows that the scope statement should be professional so that the town council will see him as responsible and allocate the money for the parade and picnic. Here is his scope statement.
