1. Outline the pros and cons of the NLRA’s election-based union recognition process. Why do labor unions seem to criticize this process more than businesses? Describe some alternative means for deciding questions of representation. What do you think would be best for the workplaces and workforce of the 21st century? Refer back to the “Labor Relations Application: The Case against Employer Campaigning” box on p. 208—should employers be excluded from the representation process?
2. Should employees be allowed to use company e-mail systems to discuss common work related concerns pertaining to their wages, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment? Option #2: Strategy 7: Expatriate Training

To get a well-rounded perspective of the expatriate experience, assess the cultural factors that impact expatriate employees in three (3) of the five (5) regions of the world that represent the majority of the expatriate opportunities around the globe: 1) the Middle East, 2) Latin America, 3) Africa, 4) Asia, and 5) Europe. Select three of these five regions and create expatriate training recommendations for each region to assist in acclimating to the culture and managing stressors in that locale. Recently, you have noticed a change in the way your colleagues are communicating. There is a lot of gossiping, and much of what is shared is false. This is starting to affect the culture of your office, as there is a lot of negativity and hurt feelings.

After some careful thought, you decide to share your concerns with your colleagues. Utilizing the concepts from this unit, draft an email to your colleagues explaining the importance of communication and how to effectively share information both in person and via email. Include the consequences of gossip and false information in the workplace. Remember that these are your coworkers, and you want to keep a positive relationship with them, so your email should be professional in manner and outline your concerns.
