Faster Computing was impressed with your presentation. The company is interested in moving forward with the project, but the senior management team has responded to the presentation with the following questions and concerns:

(12.3.2: Describe the implementation of controls.)

• How will security be implemented in the Linux systems—both workstations and servers?

(10.1.2: Gather project requirements to meet stakeholder needs.)

• End users have expressed some concern about completing their day-to-day tasks on Linux. How would activities such as web browsing work? How would they work with their previous Microsoft Office files?

(12.4.1: Document how IT controls are monitored.)

• The current Windows administrators are unsure about administering Linux systems. How are common tasks, such as process monitoring and management, handled in Linux? How does logging work? Do we have event logs like we do in Windows?

(2.3.2: Incorporate relevant evidence to support the position.)

• Some folks in IT raised questions about the Linux flavor that was recommended. They would like to see comparisons between your recommendation and a couple of other popular options. What makes your recommendation the best option?

(10.1.3: Define the specifications of the required technologies.)

• How does software installation work on Linux? Can we use existing Windows software?
• How can Linux work together with the systems that will continue to run Windows? How will we share files between the different system types?

The deliverable for this phase of the project is a memo. There is no minimum or maximum page requirement, but all of the questions must be fully answered with sufficient detail. The recommended format is to respond to the questions in a bulleted format. Provide sufficient detail to fully address the questions. You must cite at least two quality sources.

Create a memorandum template with a header of your own design or choosing, brief introduction, addresses Faster Computing, Inc’s questions, and summarizes your position on adopting the specific version of Linux.

(1.4.3: Write concise and logical sentences in standard academic English that clarify relationships among concepts and ideas.)

Your memorandum should not include spelling or grammatical errors. Any Linux commands must be displayed in lower case. Information technology acronyms (e.g., SSH or FTP) should be explained for the reader.

Because for many ethics questions there is no absolutely right or wrong answers as such, your responses will be graded based on completeness and thoughtfulness as opposed to rote or perfunctory ones. There are three grade levels for this assignment based on your responses to all the questions: 20 (no reasoning in responses), 35 (minimal to little reasoning), and 50 (sufficient reasoning and consideration).

 Question 5:7: Utilitarians think that pleasure and the absence of pain are the highest goods that we can seek in life, and that we should always be seeking to produce these goods for others (and for ourselves). They claim that every other good thing in life is valued simply because it produces pleasure or reduces pain. Do you agree? Why or why not? 

 Question 5:8: A utilitarian might say that to measure a ‘good life,’ you should ask: ‘how much overall happiness did this life bring into the world?’ Do you agree that this is the correct measure of a good life, or not? Briefly explain. 

 Question 5:9: How often, when making decisions, do you consider whether you would willingly permit everyone else to act in the same way that you are choosing to act? 

Question 5:10: What are TWO other examples you can think of, beyond those given in the text above, in which someone is treated as a ‘mere means to an end’?

iSwoon Design

Answer the following two questions based on what you have learned from “Head First” book Chapter 4 and Chapter 5.   lecture notes

Q1. Describe the usage of the Burn Down chart in the Head First book Chapter 4. Explain how to calculate the value and update it on the chart for any particular day? (Your answer should explain the relationship between the Burn Down chart and the other techniques discussed in Chapter 4 such as the Big Board and the Standup Meeting.) (20 points)

Q2. Suppose that you are asked to add a new event to the iSwoon system: The event is “Party at a friend’s place” and it is only allowed to occur on the 4th date or later. Describe what you would have to do to add this Event to the original iSwoon design(Ch 4) AND the “fixed” iSwoon design (Ch 5) respectively.(10 points)

Give your own evaluation of the latter “fixed” design; does it address the problems of the original design? What problems might the original design have and how might you fix them? (20 points)

Instead of a midterm test, you are going to complete a midterm paper and it’s based on the movie “Office Space”. You choose the way to watch the movie in a comfortable setting, just remember that the midterm paper is due by 11:59pm on Sunday, October 25 (CST).

MIDTERM PAPER

Purpose

This assignment is intended to help you learn to solve a problem with Blind Search.

The Problem

The “8-puzzle” (or “15-puzzle”) is a “sliding tile” puzzle that you’ve probably seen one place or another. Here’s the Wikipedia article on it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15_puzzle).

Basically, you’re given a 3×3 (or 4×4) grid of tiles, with tiles holding the numbers 1-8 (or 1-15), and one cell empty.

A “move” is to move a tile above, below, to the left, or to the right of the blank into the empty space (which makes space previously holding the tile now empty).

 Review the attached file. Suzie has an issue. She can either move to NY or FL and needs to review some data that her agent gave her. The agent reviewed house prices and crime ratings for houses that Suzie would be interested in based on her selection criteria.  She wants to live in an area with lower crime but wants to know a few things:

1. Is it more expensive or less expensive to live in FL or NY?
2. Is the crime rate higher in FL or NY (Note a low score in crime means lower crime)?
