 Case Scenario: Why Should I Report This

Purpose of Assignment: To demonstrating knowledge of mandated reporting requirements.

Instructions:

Consider the following scenario:

You are employed as a school social worker. One of your students, 15-year-old Shelly, meets with you and says, “My dad has a bad temper. Last night he got mad at my mom. My mom wants to divorce him. My dad freaked out and said, ‘If you leave me, that’ll be the last mistake you make-I’ll get you!'” My mom is planning on leaving my dad this weekend. I’m scared.”

In a two-page paper address the following in narrative form:

• What elements of this case constitute reasonable suspicion thus mandating a hotline call to child protective services? Be specific. Give examples.
• Who else might you contact to provide further support and protection for the client?
• Write a short case note in third person documenting what the client reported, the hotline number you called, the name of the hotline worker and your consultation with your supervisor.
  • Remember, writing in the third person means not using I, me or my in the case note. You can say things like, “The client reports that she…” “Supervisor was contacted and made aware of the situation.”

 Read the two articles attached and complete an annotated bibliography for each article. 

 Annotated Bibliography’s should be  ¾ page long for each article.  It should be double-spaced, and you are to use Times new Roman 12 font. 

• APA Reference before the information; Annotated bibliographies must be written in manner, in which, they are understandable. You must describe all-important data such as: 

• The participants 

• The reason the study was conducted 

• What research design was used (surveys, interviews, case study, etc.)

 • Which research analysis was used (MANOVA, ANOVA etc.)

 • The results of the study along with any conclusions of the author(s) Your study must include all of these (if applicable). Your AB MAY NOT be copied and pasted directly from the source. There MUST NOT be any form of plagiarism in your annotated bibliography. You are required to write this assignment in your own words.

Like all laws, health care laws start as health care policy and make their way through the legislative process to become law. It is important to understand that hundreds of policies and ideas work through this process each year; however, only a select few will become law. The purpose of this assignment is for you to read about a current regulatory issue in health care and understand how laws support the regulation of the health care industry.

Research and identify one article or a current legal case within the last 3 to 5 years (e.g., an issue that went to court to have the court determine the outcome) that involves one of the following issues:

• A regulatory issue in health care
• A regulatory issue specific to institutional health care
• Write a 350- to 700-word paper in which you:
• Summarize the case or article.
• Define a law involved with the chosen regulatory issue from both a state level (choose one common state) and a federal level.
• Explain how and why the law was created.
• Consider what you have read in the article or legal case on the selected regulatory issue, and explain the impact that regulatory issues and trends have on the health care industry.
• • Cite 2 (or more)  peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar reference to support your paper.
    Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Your paper should include the following elements:

• Select an ethical issue of interest to you and write to how you might address this issue if you encounter it in your practice. If you prefer, you can write your paper on some aspect of cultural diversity and how this might impact your work as a counselor.
• If you do address some topics pertaining to cultural diversity, narrow down your subject to a specific issue that you can address adequately.

Your paper should be two to three pgs. in length, typed in APA style.

Using reliable Internet sources and/or the CSU Online Library, search for and locate a recent court case or lawsuit related to sexual harassment in the workplace. Then, conduct a case study in which you analyze the case, presenting an argument and applicable evidence about your selected court case or lawsuit. Consider the concepts learned in this course as you analyze the case and present your analysis.

Include the following in your paper:

• a brief description of the conduct that precipitated the selected court case or lawsuit and how Title VII protects against this conduct;
• an analysis of the use of the complaint procedure and the employer’s response to any complaints;
• a discussion of preventive steps that could have been used to prevent the harassment from occurring; and
• a summary of the costs to the employer, financial and otherwise, stemming from the lawsuit and the underlying conduct.

Your paper should be a minimum of two pages, not including the title and reference pages. You are required to use a minimum of three sources, one of which may be your textbook as reference material for your case study. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please note that no abstract is needed.
