Final Project Part 1: Culture Analysis Paper

This assignment allows you to demonstrate mastery of course outcomes:

  1. apply knowledge of the levels, components, and development of culture to inform decision making about organizational practices
  2. analyze and describe the impact of organizational culture on performance

You will be asked to analyze an organizational culture. This could be  the organization you work with, or it could be some other organization  to which you have access. Remember that clubs, associations, and  churches can be considered organizations.

Research (data gathering) should include (but does not need to be limited to)  mainly primary sources.

Primary data is the data collected by the researcher themselves, i.e.

  1. interview
  2. observation
  3. action research
  4. case studies
  5. life histories
  6. questionnaires
  7. ethnographic research

Secondary sources are data that already exists

  1. Previous research
  2. Official statistics
  3. Mass media products
  4. Diaries
  5. Letters
  6. Government reports
  7. Web information
  8. Historical data and information

Collect your data and analyze it. Describe how you collected the data (observation, interviews, surveys).

Then, analyze the organizational culture along three dimensions:  artifacts, values, and underlying assumptions. Give examples of  behavior, speech, or symbols that illustrate your findings. This paper  should be 5-8 pages in length. Any data used (interviews, surveys,  websites, etc.) should be attached as appendices. You should use at  least 3 course resources. 

This assignment counts for 25% of your course grade

Article Analysis

Please select a peer-reviewed article from the GU library on the topics for the current week. Analyze the article and correlate to your personal ethics assessment results. You are encouraged to share some specific examples of your assessment results to support your opinion. However, if you would like to keep your results private, you can speak to your results in general terms. 

Write a 3 page summary on your analysis of the article to your assessment results and how you believe this content has increased your ethical self-awareness. Please include alternatives, analysis, application, and action.

New and Improved Rewards at Work

 Employers have been coming up with innovative employee rewards to boost morale and acknowledge employee needs for creativity and personal goal accomplishment. Some of the latest potential employee rewards include using the Internet at work for personal reasons such as shopping, communicating with friends, or personal finances; bringing a pet to work; instituting a controlled napping policy, and the sports and office betting pools. 

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper in which you:

  1. Determine how innovations in employee benefits can improve the overall competitive compensation strategy of the organization.
  2. Explain how innovative benefits could be tied to specific jobs.
  3. Critique the effectiveness of equity-based rewards systems versus those with more creative approaches.
  4. Discuss the key elements of integrating innovation into a traditional total rewards program.
  5. Recommend a process that optimizes an employee-based suggestion program to continually refresh the total rewards of the organization.

Homework Assignment

Read Case Study 6-2, “Classification of a Bargaining Subject,” on page 285 in your textbook, and answer the questions provided. 

Questions

  1. What is a mandatory subject of bargaining? 
  2. Can a union waive its right to bargain over a mandatory subject of bargaining? 
  3. Would the established labor agreement apply to this case study? 
  4. Was management’s refusal to bargain over the subject of surveillance camera usage in the workplace a violation of the duty to bargain in good faith under the Labor Management Relations Act (LMRA) as amended? If so, what should be the appropriate remedy? 
  5. Discuss the merits of the parties’ respective positions in this case. 

Your response to these questions should be a minimum of 2 pages in length. Use APA format to cite and reference all quoted and paraphrased material, including your textbook. Please be sure to include your reference list on a separate page.
