1200 word paper in APA 7th ed

Background:
Pay for Performance in America’s public schools is an extremely controversial issue. Although the process has made inroads in business and is a means to help determine promotions, pay, and retention, pay for performance has not been consistently well received in the public school systems. There are some successful examples where teacher pay has been linked to student test scores. In Minnesota, for example, some districts have stopped giving automatic raises for seniority and base 60% of all pay increases on employee performance. In Denver, unions and school districts designed an incentive program where teachers receive bonuses for student achievement and for earning national teaching certificates.

On the other hand, some plans have not worked. For example, Cincinnati teachers voted against a merit pay proposal and Philadelphia teachers gave their bonus checks to charity rather than cashing them. It appears that having teachers involved in planning the incentive system is one key factor to success. The same can be said for all incentive plans – if employees do not buy into them, they will not work.

Assignment:

You have been asked by the organization’s senior leadership to explore the practicality of implementing such a program for your organization.

Questions to Research:

  1. How could an organization measure the effectiveness of their pay-for-performance plans?
  2. From an employee’s perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?
  3. From an employer’s perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a pay-for-performance plan?

The course objectives addressed by this assignment are as follows:

  • Explain the various classifications of rewards.
  • Describe competency-based compensation programs.
  • Describe relative standards in the performance management system.
  • Discuss ethical issues in HRM

Managing Diversity in Organizations : Unit VII Journal, Unit VII Project, Unit VIII Journal, Unit VIII Final Project

Unit VII Journal

Instructions

Respond to one of the two options:

Option 1: Thomas is a prominent leader in his organization. Over the past several years, Thomas’ weight has fluctuated from morbidly underweight to morbidly overweight and back to morbidly underweight. The organization has given Thomas a performance improvement plan due to attendance issues resulting from concerns of the weight fluctuations. Thomas has consulted with an attorney regarding whether there is possible discrimination occurring by the organization. Do you think the organization is discriminating against Thomas? If you were the employer and you were truly concerned about Thomas, how would you handle this situation? Is a performance improvement plan appropriate here? Why, or why not?

Option 2: Sally and Roger have worked as a team in their organization for several years. Sally is age 64. Roger is age 67. Both are in fair health. Roger has type II diabetes and takes heart medication. Sally is a cancer survivor from 10 years ago with no recurrences. The team has made significant revenue for the company over the last 40 years, independently and collectively. The company does not have a written policy regarding mandatory retirement at age 65. Both Sally and Roger have slowed in their productivity though perform well above expectations by the organizational standard set. At the recent annual performance evaluation, Sally was encouraged by her boss (an owner in the organization) to look to retirement due to her increased health issues. Roger was encouraged to retire due to his work slowing down and increased errors in his judgement. Such issues had never been mentioned before. Do you think there is a viable case for discrimination regarding health and disability? Do you think there is a case of ageism to be considered regarding the organization and the owner? If you were the employer, how would you handle these issues?

Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.

Powerpoint

The problem-solving model was first laid out by Helen Perlman. Her seminal 1957 book, Social Casework: A Problem-Solving Process, described the problem-solving model and the 4Ps. Since then, other scholars and practitioners have expanded the problem-solving model and problem-solving therapy. At the heart of problem-solving model and problem-solving therapy is helping clients identify the problem and the goal, generating options, evaluating the options, and then implementing the plan.

Because models are blueprints and are not necessarily theories, it is common to use a model and then identify a theory to drive the conceptualization of the client’s problem, assessment, and interventions. Take, for example, the article by Westefeld and Heckman-Stone (2003). Note how the authors use a problem-solving model as the blueprint in identifying the steps when working with clients who have experienced sexual assault. On top of the problem-solving model, the authors employed crisis theory, as this theory applies to the trauma of going through sexual assault. Observe how, starting on page 229, the authors incorporated crisis theory to their problem-solving model.

In this Final Case Assignment, using the same case study that you chose in Week 2, you will use the problem-solving model AND a theory from the host of different theoretical orientations you have used for the case study.

You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 11 to 12 slides, and you will use the Personal Capture function of Kaltura to record both audio and video of yourself presenting your PowerPoint presentation.

To prepare:

  • Review and focus on the case study that you chose in Week 2.
  • Review the problem-solving model, focusing on the five steps of the problem-solving model formulated by D’Zurilla on page 388 in the textbook.
  • In addition, review this article listed in the Learning Resources: Westefeld, J. S., & Heckman-Stone, C. (2003). The integrated problem-solving model of crisis intervention: Overview and application. The Counseling Psychologist, 31(2), 221–239. https://doi-org.ezp.waldenulibrary.org/10.1177/0011000002250638
