MGT312T Week 5 Discussion

Change is inevitable and often necessary in order for organizations to thrive, but there is always resistance (intentionally or unintentionally). What are some of the causes of this resistance to change, and what can you do as a manager to help your employees overcome the various reasons why they may resist change?

Discussion 3.2: Is It Relevant?

As a healthcare manager, you may encounter situations where you have to use your knowledge of system tools and resources. Imagine that you attend an implementation team meeting and one of the team members (Kevin) does not believe that the systems development life cycle is relevant. He further explains that the use of such a tool may hinder a project rather than move it forward. Moreover, Kevin says that schedules and project timelines are a hindrance as well. How would you respond? Discuss how you would support or refute Kevin’s points of view.

Project Charter

You have been hired to oversee the decentralization of your client’s  human resources function in which corporate functions will be relocated  to each regional office. Your boss wants you to start the project  immediately, but you are insisting that a project charter be established  first. Explain to your boss the importance of a project charter and  what could happen if you decided to proceed ahead without a charter.

Evaluate Changes to Anti-discrimination Law

Write a paper in which you reflect about how the significant changes in Federal anti-discrimination law occurring since 1990have had an impact in employees and organizations. For example, are these anti-discrimination laws providing more protections for employees such as preventing sexual harassment or more opportunities in organizations for the disabled? Are these anti-discrimination laws changing the culture of organizations so that there is more tolerance of individual employee differences? What have been the impacts of these changes? Explain why these changes are or are not necessary for gaining a competitive advantage in a global economy.
