You are the new HR leader for a small manufacturing firm located in the Midwest. During your interview, the owner of the company expressed an urgent need for a complete staffing review due to the fact that a substantial amount of technical change had occurred at the plant over the past decade without regard to the job description or the requirements of the position.

Establishing the proper staffing process is important to reaching a successful outcome. You must have a firm understanding of how you will accomplish the task of reviewing the actions and behaviors of each role and/or position within the organization. The owner of the manufacturing firm has asked for a structured three-section report explaining how the project will be accomplished and where the process will begin. With the concerns of the owner in mind, you will develop a detailed report, defining the process, the reasoning for conducting the job analysis, the resulting job design, and the performance evaluation process for each position and/or role within the organization.

Your project must be designed in such a way that is understandable to both administrators and subordinates and comprehensive in the results.

Section 1 – Job Analysis (Three to four pages and two scholarly resources in addition to the text.) Use keywords and HRM language that are connected to each of the header areas. Include resources that support your findings.

  • Part 1 – Explain your reasoning for the purpose of the job analysis and the relationship to individual needs and corporate strategy. Evaluate why it is important to perform a job analysis for the positions within the organization.
  • Part 2 – Describe an analysis tool that would be most appropriate for this particular project. Explain the reasoning for your selection and your desired outcomes. Indicate the type of information that will be delivered via the analysis tool.
  • Part 3 – Identify specific external resources available to HR, and explain how they will be used to provide occupational data and descriptors.
  • Part 4 – Summarize the assumed data to be defined during analysis. Explain why the content is important to job design and performance evaluation.

Section 2 – Job Design (Three to four pages and two scholarly resources in addition to the text)

  • Part 1 – Create a job description for the organization based on the proposed data delivered in Section 1. Specifically identify each section of the job description, and defend the importance of each to the selection process. This should be a description of the template, not a job description for a specific job.
  • Part 2 – Explain how the required employment and labor laws (BFOQ, ADA, EEO, and OSHA) are incorporated into the job description. Evaluate how the organization will account for the deployment of these laws.
  • Part 3 – Based on your research, explain why the chosen design is appropriate for the organization.

Section 3 – Performance Appraisal (Three to four pages and two scholarly resources in addition to the text)

  • Part 1 – Explain the purpose and intended outcomes of a performance appraisal. Evaluate the proposed job description (Section 2), and describe how the elements of the job description will be measured.
  • Part 2 – Develop a performance appraisal using the measureable actions defined within the job description.
  • Part 3 – Explore the challenges and opportunities that a performance appraisal adds to the overall job analysis and job design process.

Summary

Provide an overall summary of the proposed structure for the staffing review as requested by the owner of the organization. Briefly describe each section of the plan, and defend why your choices will provide the information needed for a successful outcome.

Some projects are best served by engaging in partnerships. There can be many reasons for partnering, but primarily it is because the need or problem requires the involvement of multiple stakeholders. In some cases, a funder may look at organizational capacity and question whether staff has the experience and skills to carry out the project successfully. Other grants, depending on the nature of the RFP description, will specify partnerships. And some projects are simply too complex and wide ranging to even consider within a single organization.

It is important to understand that the time to reach out to potential partners about opportunities to apply for grant funding is when a need is first identified at an organization. Those who reach out to brand new “partners” because they must in order to submit a proposal may find it doesn’t work once the project is implemented. The barriers to successful partnerships can vary from lack of communication to hidden agendas.

For this Discussion, based on your own project idea, consider the potential barriers that could impact the success of your prospective grant partner.

By Day 3 of Week 8

Post a powerpoint reflecting on the following about barriers to successful partnerships:

  • What barrier(s) could impact the success of your funding partnership?
  • How will you work to overcome the barrier(s)?
  • Provide an explanation of the importance of building a relationship between funder and grantee. Describe key elements of this relationship, providing a rationale for your thinking.
  • Describe why the grant funder/RFP’s criteria are important and how they can influence the outcomes of the funding process.
  • Address both a Memorandum of Understanding and Letters of Agreement that would be necessary.

The presentation must be at least eight slides in length and use at least two references. You may include your textbook as one of the references. Read Case Study 10-2, “Must a Union Process a Grievance of a Nonunion Employee?” on page 463 of your textbook. Then, answer the questions provided. 

  1. What are nonunion employee rights under the LMRA?

  3. When has the union met its obligation of fair representation? 
  4. Has the union in this case met its fair representation obligation? Explain.

Ethical dilemmas span all areas of your professional practice from confidentiality and privacy to cultural considerations. For this Assignment, you concentrate on cultural considerations that may pose challenges to ethical practice. Case Study #1

Nitin and Priya are first-generation Indian-American immigrants, while their 16-year-old son was born and raised in the United States. They were reluctant to engage in treatment, but are doing so at the request of their son, Sujay. In Sujay’s view, his parents are being overly controlling regarding his upcoming choice of college, which is causing increasingly frequent clashes between him and his parents. Sujay wants to attend art school, while his parents want him to attend engineering school. They state that a career in science, religion, law, or medicine is the appropriate path for a person of his caste. Sujay claims that while he wants to please his parents, he feels they are stifling his passion and imposing cultural norms that, to him, are a part of their “world” and not his. You have little knowledge of Indian culture or the caste system and are unsure whether the issue at hand is a matter of controlling parents dealing with a life transition issue or a serious conflict involving social and cultural influences.

Case Study #2

Nicole and Julia explain to you that their relationship has felt strained lately and that they fear they are heading for a breakup. The couple explain to you that they have been in a long-term, non-monogamous relationship, but that lately, Nicole has expressed desire to change this practice. Julia feels that Nicole is “changing the rules halfway through the game” and that her sexual relationships with others are of no consequence to how she feels about Nicole. Their current relationship practice conflicts with your own personal opinion about the role of monogamy in relationships, and thus you feel conflicted about how to handle the situation.

  • Identify the case study you chose and describe the ethical issue(s) present in it.
  • Explain how you would address each of these issues.
  • Justify your response using the appropriate professional Code of Ethics.

Code of Ethics Intake Packet

 

You have recently been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, a small hospital located in a mid-size city in the Midwest. Three Mountains is a general medical and surgical facility with 400 beds. Last year there were approximately 62,000 emergency visits and 15,000 admissions. More than 6,000 outpatient and 10,000 inpatient surgeries were performed.

Three Mountains was recently in the news after employee emails were published in which patients were discussed in very negative terms, although patient names were not used. The employees that sent these emails were fired. The CEO and the Board of Directors has tasked you with developing an intake packet for new patients that will reestablish patient trust in the facility, employees, and staff. The patient packet will address new patient concerns by including information about HIPAA, informed consent, a confidential health history report, and a living will. The new packet will also include the values of the organization and a code of ethics.

Your intake packet will start with the Hospital’s Code of Ethics that includes at least 10 ethical points. The code of ethics should include (at a minimum):

  • Patient relations
  • Physician activities
  • Billing for services
  • Political activities
  • Conflict of interest
  • Communication, including social media
  • Privacy

The Code of Ethics should be submitted in bullet format in a Word document with an introduction. APA formatting for the ethical points and proper grammar is required.

Upon completion of your code of ethics, please prepare a PowerPoint presentation (or other shareable Webware/software you prefer) with narration in which you explain each ethical point and its relevance in the healthcare industry with examples to the CEO, so that she can answer questions from the Board.

  1. The PowerPoint should have a minimum of 5 slides and a maximum of 12.
  2. Describe each ethical point in the Code of Ethics.
  3. Use the notes area on each slide as needed to expand on the key points.
  4. You may use a free screen capture site such as Screencast-O-Matic to record a video of your presentation. Screencast-O-Matic is a site and program that can perform screen desk and audio capture up to 15 minutes for free, and can be utilized on a Windows or Mac computer. (Note: You can use another, similar program if you prefer. Screencast-O-Matic is only a suggestion). Make sure that both your voice and the PowerPoint slides are captured on the video.

Your audio presentation should include an introduction, a concise discussion of each slide, and a conclusion. The presentation should demonstrate your overall knowledge of the content, pronunciation of words, organization, proper recording, professionalism, and clarity.

Your presentation should be 10 minutes or less. Be sure to include the following:

  • Include a link to the location of your live video on the last slide of your PowerPoint presentation.
  • Make sure to use audience specific language and tone in your PowerPoint. Remember, you would be presenting this to the CEO of your facility.
