OrganizationaL issues

Overview

Leaders address issues and propose solutions. As a leader, you’ll need to stay on top of events that may facilitate or hinder productivity. You must create and implement solutions to address these issues.

In the assignment preparation, you chose an organization, described its organizational issue, and identified how it hinders organization efficiency. This assignment exposes you to complex modern organizational challenges. The solutions you devise should reflect your learning and research of organizational and individual influences in the workplace.

Instructions

    • This information can be summarized from your assignment preparation last week. Make sure to incorporate any feedback that you received from your instructor.

  3. Identify areas of weakness:
    • What are the organization’s areas of weakness as they relate to the issue? Apply your research on organizational behavior approaches to aspects of corporate culture—such as diversity, teamwork, and motivational strategies—to help identify the areas of weakness.
  4. Propose solutions:

Week 5 HR

Debate

I hope that we are slowly gaining a holistic view of Outdoor Education, and that your first impressions shared during week 1 have evolved accordingly. We have looked at Outdoor Ed through an academic lens, and had explored how these programs manifest themselves in the market place. At this point we have identified the Outdoor Ed has significant advantages when it is presented as a multifaceted educational experience that targets several different objectives via diversified curriculum. In simplified categories, Outdoor Ed works in the following realms:

Social Emotional Learning– Is the increasingly mainstream terminology that encompasses traditionally labeled ‘emotional intelligence’ topics. SEL is slowly working its way into the public school system, and gaining traction in state mandated educational requirements. For more information check out- https://casel.org/what-is-sel/ (Links to an external site.)

Environmental Literacy– P21 Sums up Environmental Lit well- http://www.p21.org/about-us/p21-framework/830-environmental-literacy (Links to an external site.)

Technical Outdoor Skills– From map and compass navigation, travel techniques in bear country, medical knowledge regarding heat related illness, to assessing and managing risk, teaching technical outdoor skills has long been the primary focus of Outdoor Education.

Dynamic programs meets many other needs but for our purposes we will focus on the above three items.

For this week please DEBATE which of the above elements of Outdoor Education you feel are most needed and/or most important in your community. All responses should be posted in the Discussion section under Week 5- Ranking debate.

First, define your community (family unit, peer group, local population, generational group (e.g. millennial’s) etc. Your definition of community should be explained in 2-3 sentences.

Second, rank from 1-3 your priority of subjects within Outdoor Education that are you feel are most needed and/or most important within your community. Explain your rankings with two-three (2-3) sentences each. Feel free to argue for a component other than Social Emotional Learning, Environmental Lit, or Technical Outdoor Skills. You can also introduce and argue for your own category that you feel exists in Outdoor Rec.

NOTE: This is a Chinese client, female.

If you are unclear about certain topics, continue to explore, identify, and synthesize

This is one of our final theoretical assignment, before we shift our focus to the Back country component of this course.

Create an APA formatted Annotated Bibliography for the three articles selected. The Annotated Bibliography should summarize and analyze the articles in your own words. Each article annotation should be at least 150 words and include the article reference in APA format.

Annotation: This article adds to the research regarding public health collaborations by addresses two major concepts. Recent federal incentives demonstrated government support for quality initiatives, prompting coordinated advances in public health quality improvement processes (Brewer, Joly, Mason, Tews, & Thielen, 2007). Best practices in relations to public health practices and achievement of accreditation were developed through guiding principles of engagement and collaboration (Brewer et al., 2007). The case studies titled Building a QI Culture in Minnesota’s Local Public Health Departments and South Carolina’s Application of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s Model for QI in Public Health served as process models for future collaborative initiatives. Legal Considerations in I/O Psychology

In 2017, a pregnant Walmart employee who worked as a packer at a distribution center was struggling with morning sickness and asked for a break from some of her duties. Her supervisor responded that she would need a doctor’s note. Consequently, the woman obtained a note from her doctor that said she was to avoid heavy lifting and gave it to her supervisor. In turn, her supervisor referred her to Human Resources. A Human Resources employee informed her that she could not return to work until after she gave birth because she was a “liability,” and that she would have to apply for unpaid leave to keep her job. Did Walmart discriminate against this employee?

In the United States, there are many anti-discrimination laws; yet, as the Walmart example shows, discrimination continues to be a problem in the workplace. For this Assignment, you will examine the role of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in enforcing anti-discrimination laws. You will also consider what steps you would take to ensure equity in the workplace as an I/O psychology practitioner.

To Prepare:
  • Read Chapter 3 in the Aamodt text, Industrial/Organizational Psychology: An Applied Approach, and “Title VII” of The Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Identify unlawful employment practices and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Consider the role of the EEOC in addressing unlawful employment practices.
  • Think about the best practices you would apply as an I/O psychology practitioner to prevent discrimination and ensure equity in the workplace.

By Day 7 of Week 10

Submit a 3–4-page paper that addresses the following questions. Your paper should follow APA style, be double-spaced with one-inch margins, and include a title page and reference list.

  • Describe the role of the EEOC in the practice of I/O psychology and three different laws that are enforced by the EEOC.
  • Describe two different types of discrimination prohibited by the laws enforced by EEOC and at least three best practices you would suggest for ensuring equity in the workplace.
  • Suppose you find yourself in an elevator with the CEO of a Fortune 500 company that you admire greatly. You strike up a casual conversation that suddenly turns to the topic of discrimination in the workplace, and you quickly realize that the CEO has no understanding of I/O psychology or I/O psychologists’ roles in addressing these concerns. One day you hope to begin your I/O career at this company or one similar to it. Therefore, you decide to give a quick elevator speech on I/O psychology and its role in best practices to address discrimination and inequity in the workplace. What would you say?
