Measuring Effectiveness of HR

Review the learning materials from class about HR metrics and HR Information Systems (HRIS). Then, conduct an independent search for information about how organizations can best measure the effectiveness of their HR practices, using metrics and HRIS. Consider the following questions:

1. What are some of the most important or impactful measurements of HR effectiveness, and why?

2. Are there any limits to what sort of information organizations can collect and store about their employees? How does privacy play a role in this?

__________

Summarize your findings in a 1-2 page paper, and submit your paper in Canvas by Sunday evening.

Use in-text citations to show where you are applying or discussing content from any outside sources, including websites. End your paper with a References list that gives the full details about the sources. In-text citations and References should be formatted according to APA standards; see the Lynn University Library — APA Style GuideLinks to an external site. for details.

Strategy, Planning, and Selection

Scenario

Assume for this assignment that you are being highly considered for a director-level HR management position for a best-in-class national retailer. You are in the final phase of the interview process and must respond to the interview panel regarding specific questions and scenarios that will help them determine if you are a good fit for the new role. The company’s culture is centered on the effective development of strategy, plans, and selection criteria aimed at building and sustaining a competitive and profitable organization. It will be extremely important that you respond with a strategic mindset in order to convince the organization you are able to help them ensure the execution of the business strategy.

Instructions

Write a six- to seven-page paper in which you do the following:

  • Analyze and discuss different types of strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, and focus/niche) then select which one you would deem more appropriate for an “efficiency-minded” retail organization and explain your rationale. How would the selected strategy ultimately affect how HR does its job?
  • Examine the four approaches to job design or redesign and provide an example (not a definition) of each. Then, make a case to the interviewing panel on the importance of effective job design applications in supporting the overall strategic goals of the organization.
  • Consider challenges and constraints associated in recruiting and identify and discuss at least two to three issues. What advice would you give to leaders to address your selected issues? Be specific.
  • List and describe 2–3 candidate selection process ideas that might add value and overall effectiveness to the process. Example: 5 Tips for Designing an Effective Employee Selection System. Also, what problems should HR and management teams avoid during the selection process?
  • Use at least four quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: You may only use the resources listed in the Course Guide and those that are specifically provided by the professor.

question-

Read the following hypothetical. Using your issue-spotting skills, analyze the potential exposure to liability of the Accounting Firm based on the actions of the Partnership Review Committee.

Anne is an accountant at a large Accounting Firm. She applied for Partner, but was denied. In their report, the all-male Partnership Review Committee stated that Anne would have a better chance at making Partner if she wore makeup, jewelry, and acted more femininely. Over the past 10 years with the Firm, Anne has received excellent performance evaluations and recently secured a $10M client for the Firm.

Instructions: Please write in essay format.  Include the guidance below in your analysis:

a) Set forth the federal statute and/or theories of law that are applicable.

b) Identify the legal issue(s) that exist and claims that may be brought based on the facts of the case.

c) Apply the facts of the case to the elements of the law/theories of law.

d) Cite a case in the text which is on point with the scenario, or compare and contrast with a case in the text.

e) Provide an action item agenda of specific objectives you would recommend implementing in order to prevent future exposure to liability. Be specific (e.g., if training is a recommendation, describe the type of training in detail).

Students response

Based on the information that was provided the Accounting Firms potential exposure to a liability claim with Anne is for Disparate Treatment (Prmia Facie Case) and Disparate Impact.  Discrimination of the facially neutral policy under the Title VII guidelines protects Anne because she falls within a protected class.  Under the Title VII Provisions “An employer cannot discriminate based on Gender.”  This would apply to promote equal opportunity in the fundamentals of employment relationship: Hiring/firing/promotions.  The fact that Anne is a female applying for a position with an all-male Partnership review committee, who decided to not hire her based on her gender.  Facially neutral policy states that a specific workplace policy that applies to all employees. In reference to case: 42 U.S.C Section 1981. – Equal Rights under the Law “Patterson v. McLean Credit Union”.

The fact that Anne was qualified for the position based on her tenure with the company for 10 years and in her performance reviews received excellent ratings and the fact that she was an asset by securing a $10M client makes her eligible to apply for the position as partner.

Compensatory damages should be awarded to Anne for her hardship. – Money awarded to compensate the injured party of direct losses

Reflect on your experience with writing résumés. Have you ever written a   résumé or cover letter? What parts were challenging for you? What  advice can   you give to a friend who may be new to résumé-writing?

If this is your first résumé-writing experience, share  what you think may   be most challenging for you.

Your journal entry must be at least 200 words in length. No  references or   citations are necessary.

What went wrong

  • Read the Week 1 lecture which introduces us to Emma and CM Tech.  Also read Chapter 1 of our text which introduces you to all the things NOT to do.  The chapter is only 2 pages long and provides a lot of great insights into our topics.  Remember, you will be shadowing our fictitious manager, Emma, for the next 8 weeks in our course.  Emma has asked you to think about your past experiences and consider what your current or previous employers did that brought out poor performance from you or your coworkers.  Her goal is to discuss with you what didn’t work very well so you can both look to the future, helping ensure the team chooses a successful path without repeating past mistakes.

In your initial discussion post share with your classmates your experiences as Emma requested.  In your responses to your peers expand on similar experiences you may have had or share experiences you’ve had that would have worked well to avoid the poor performance issues in their examples.
