SHORT STORY DISSCUSION

Main Post: For this week’s main discussion post, you want to look in detail at the characters in the short story to produce a character portrait, a description of the personality, psychology, world-view, attitudes and values of a single character. This will involve looking at the different ways that the author creates and shapes the character. To write the assignment:

Choose a character—either Twinkle or Sanjeev.

Create a short post that answers the following questions:

  1. What is the character’s personality?
  2. What do they value?
  3. How do they think/feel about their world?
  4. What, if any, is their overall emotional tone (angry, frustrated, etc)?
  5. How do they respond to the conflicts that arise in their world?
  6. Choose a single word to sum them up, or to symbolize them.
  7. At the end of our work time, share your findings with the class.

For your Peer Response post, choose at least one assertion that your peer makes about the character and, using evidence from the story, offer an alternative interpretation. For example, if your peer suggests that Sanjeev is controlling, find evidence in the text that suggests an alternative interpretation, such as evidence that suggests actions that seem controlling may stem from frustration, or just a different personality type.

Human Resource Initiatives (Primary Research Assignment)

Primary research for this assignment can be in the form of a personal or telephone interview.  With COVID-19, please utilize technology to conduct your interview, so the interview is not face-to-face (teleconference, video conference, etc.).  The person must be an expert in the human resource field, someone who has first-hand experience with the initiative or issue, reporting of direct observation from you in a researcher role or a human resource role.

Secondary research does not require an interview and we continue to gather data by utilizing existing research.

    • We must use a minimum of 3 references from our Annotated Bibliography.

    • Find additional peer-reviewed journal articles from Welder Library E-Resources or Google Scholar to support your paper (minimum of 5). Your articles must be within the last 10 years. 

Paper Requirements:

Write a 5-6 page paper demonstrating an understanding of the application of course concepts. A good rule of thumb is to introduce the subject discussed and use the information from your interview to support the subject. You must include citations from the course textbook and a minimum of four scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles (from Welder Library E-resources) to support your paper. Also, make sure how to review how to cite an interview in APA.  (Links to an external site.)

  • Your paper is required to be in APA. 
  • Include a title page 
  • You do NOT need an abstract
  • Avoid first person. 
  • Include a reference page with a minimum of 6 sources (the course textbook and 5 peer reviewed journal articles). If you list a source as a reference,  you must include an in-text citation within your paper for that source.v

Prepare an essay response of at least one page in length that addresses the following items:

  • What factors distinguish the labor relations system in the public sector from that in the private sector?
  • Propose a public-sector labor relations system for the employees of the city government.
    • What would it borrow from the private sector?
    • What would it not be able to borrow? Why?
    • How would you modify your system to account for specific aspects of city government? Why?

Capstone assignment

 

Option #1:

To start your Capstone Project you will develop an audio script. The audio script should be a detailed script and reflect what you would say to executives during the presentation. The script will be read/used to present human resource strategies to executives. The script will be the first part of the Capstone Project which will be added to the benchmarking and audit tools, detailed below, that can be used to assist an organization to transform the human resource function to a strategic business partner.

The introduction audio script needs to include the following:

  • An introduction to the Capstone Project.
  • An assessment of the knowledge and competencies that a global human resource leader should possess. Describe how the denoted knowledge and competencies can be acquired and why these KSAs are critical.
  • Create strategies for transitioning HR from a transactional/process-oriented role to a strategic partner role.

Your audio script will be the introduction to your portfolio and should meet the following requirements:

Build your Capstone Project to be either a report 20-27 pages long or 12-17 slide Power Point presentation, which includes the following:

Final Project

For your Final Project, you are asked to use theories, strategies, and concepts from the course to develop a crisis management plan for your community.

Your Final Project must be presented as a 12–15 page (not including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced, APA-formatted project in the form of a paper that is submitted by Day 4 of Week 11. See Week 11 for specific instructions for submission.

Crisis Management Plan Guidelines

The Final Project must include the following:

  • A strategy for identifying and selecting a crisis management team
  • A description of the organizational resources available to you in a crisis (community, state, national, and international organizations). Explain what they are and how they might be used in a crisis in your community. Then explain how you might promote or expect collaboration between and among them.
  • A description of the trained professionals available in your community
  • A summary of ethical and legal issues/considerations that you might encounter when responding to a crisis in your community
  • A description of issues/considerations related to diverse populations that you might encounter when responding to a crisis in your community
  • A description of a model that you would use to train counselors for a crisis
  • A description of how you would use empirically-supported treatments with survivors and care takers
  • A description of how the crisis management plan would be evaluated (after the fact)

Read the case study titled “Revitalizing a Brand”, located in the online course shell. Use the Internet or Strayer databases to research the branding and communication strategies of one (1) health services organization that is similar to the health services organizations mentioned in the case study.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  1. Describe the current marketing communication, identity, and brand position of Plaza Home Health Services.
  2. Conduct a Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT) analysis associated with the current marketing communication, identity, and brand position of Plaza Home Health Services.
