week iv pt 2a

For this assignment, you will evaluate the efforts undertaken by your community to identify hazards and risks. Conduct an Internet search for the local hazard mitigation plan, emergency operations plan, or even the general development plan that identifies hazards that your community faces. Your evaluation will be at the local government level—either municipal or county. Do not evaluate state-level efforts.

After you have completed your research, write a paper that addresses the components listed below.

  • Discuss the completeness of the plan in identifying hazards in your community.
  • Discuss how the hazard mitigation activities of various sectors support the whole community approach.
  • Evaluate the commitment of the community to keep the plan up-to-date.
  • Share what improvements you believe can be made to the plan and the roles that the government and private sectors may play in risk management.

If the plan is not available online, retrieve a copy from the person at the local government agency that is responsible for this requirement. You will cite this information in your paper.

Your paper must be at least two pages in length, not counting the title or reference pages. Your paper must adhere to APA format.

Functionality

With aging comes physiological, functional, and sensory changes. At times, these changes can manifest as a loss. Often, a loss of function may begin a so-called downward spiral in the life of an elderly person, affecting his or her independence and quality of life.

Imagine you are working with a client who is helping her parents explore their long-term care options. She has asked you to address the significance and validity of the above statement.

Write a 1,300 word response to your client that addresses the above statement. Include how the specific loss of function might affect one or more activities of daily living.

Use a minimum of 3 references to support your response.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

WEEEK VII PART 2A

If you were an emergency manager in your community developing policies pertaining to special needs populations, what are some of the moral and ethical challenges that you would face in developing those policies addressing mass casualties that may take place?

Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.

Interpret Barriers to Cultural Opportunities

How we view the world is a result of own experiences and perceptions, and with that can come hurdles that possibly prevent us from fully taking advantage of the opportunities that cultural diversity can offer within the workplace. Create a PowerPoint presentation in which you interpret how personal and societal mindsets can act as a barrier to diversity. This presentation continues your original out-brief presentation from your local workgroup. Consider the following questions:

  • What are some of the personal and societal mindsets that exist that prevent acceptance of diversity?
  • How do stereotypes, biases, and cultural baggage play a role?
  • What are some ways that a human resources professional can assist in alleviating these mindsets in an organization to help create a culture that embraces diversity?

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists. Support your presentation with at least five (5) scholarly resources.  In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.  Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide).
Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide.
