The human brain receives information from its environment constantly, but how does it make sense of all this information? One way is through the use of schemas, which are mental structures that help the mind organize new information and relate it to old information and experiences. By relating information in this way, humans can more quickly process experiences and make judgments and decisions. When you meet someone new, your brain automatically uses these schemas to identify characteristics or behavior that would allow you to classify the person into a group that you may already know. While an adaptive and helpful strategy that the human brain possesses, when taken to an extreme, it could lead to the formation of unhelpful or incorrect stereotypes about groups.

When working with clients from diverse groups, human and social services professionals need to bring conscious thought to their perceptions of people, in addition to the automatic thinking that humans engage in. In other words, use your schemas and acknowledge commonalities, but also research information on groups you work with, take the time to become aware of individual differences, and always seek to bring cultural sensitivity to your understanding of and practice with clients.

For this Discussion, you compare cultural values of three broadly defined groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, and Caucasians. You then consider how you would practice cultural awareness and sensitivity when providing services to members of each group.

Your podcast should address best practices for onboarding and engaging contingent workers. Along with your podcast, including a transcript of the podcast. If you are new to podcasting, the information below might be helpful to you.

3. Whether the conclusion provided a clear summary of the main points.
4. The structure and flow of the podcast.
5. Technical sound quality (volume and clarity).
6. Creativity is also considered.

Support your podcast with at least three scholarly or professional resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.

Length: 15 – 20 minutes. Be sure to submit a reference page including a link to your podcast.

Read the “Zappos: Stepping Forward in Stakeholder Satisfaction” case, located on page 475 of the textbook.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

The American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, and the American Sociological Association are just a few of the professional associations which support ethical standards for research which go beyond the broad principles of beneficence, fidelity, integrity, justice, and respect for people’s rights (see pp 50-51 in Cozby and Bates, 2018).   You can access the standards for several other organizations in this module.   Be sure to review the specific standards for research for at least two organizations on the list.  

  All of the organizations mentioned above provide very specific guidance about a variety of ethical issues, including plagiarism, fraud, and misconduct.  In this forum, you will consider how plagiarism and/or fraud and misconduct in researchmight affect the search for a COVID-19 vaccine or treatment.  For example, what if a researcher excluded unfavorable results in a vaccine trial to make it appear as if the vaccine was more effective than it really was?  What if a researcher plagiarized another researcher’s work on COVID-19? 

   Remember to use only objective, neutral (scientific) language.
