MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES

Assignment Overview 

As a health education program director/coordinator, you will likely be called upon to supervise/manage staff responsible for implementing your health education programs. In this capacity, you may encounter situations in which members of your team are underperforming. The following video clip depicts such a scenario and two ways in which a manager/supervisor might respond. Click to view the video clip.

Case Assignment 

After viewing the clip and reading Chapter 40, Section 1 of the Community Tool Box (i.e., Achieving and Maintaining Quality Performance), address the following questions in a four-page essay:

Discuss the merits of each of the approaches taken by the manager upon realizing that his employee was underperforming.

  • What might the implications of adopting the former approach be for this employee’s performance? Please explain.
  • What might the implications of adopting the latter approach be for this employee’s performance? Please explain.
  • What are the basic principles of Total Quality Management (TQM)? Which TQM principles seem most relevant to the scenario shown in the video clip? Why?

NOTE: Please ensure that you support your analysis with evidence from background readings and additional scholarly sources.

Length: 4 pages typed, double-spaced.

Assessment and Grading: Your paper will be assessed based on the performance assessment rubric that is linked within the course. Review it before you begin working on the assignment.

Your submission should meet the guidelines on file format, in-text citations and references, scholarly sources, scholarly writing, and use of direct quotes noted under Module 1 Assignment Expectations.

Assignment #014

Required:  Two pages are written reflection (no need to source unless you want the practice).  Put together a quick presentation (can be a quick ppt or just photos of your dish and/or interesting historical photos). 
Prompt:  Pick an authentic New Mexican dish.  Research the history of the dish, including the creation, adaptations, uses (celebrations).  Make sure to research the individual ingredients.  Was the dish used for comfort, healing, religiously?  Take photos of your foray into the kitchen and put together a short presentation for the class.
Note:  Not all dishes need cooking, so if you don’t have access to a fully stocked kitchen, don’t fret.

DNP-DPI Project

The professor has made new comments on the project and it requires for the comments to be incorporated into the project. You can also see the professor’s comments in the attached 10 Strategic Points.

Areas Needing corrections are as follows: It must be updated in the 10 Strategic Points and in the main project ATTACHED.

1. Interventions

a. This has to be for Diabetes. Currently, it is not the right methodology

b. The intervention is what will be done for each patient which should be based on educating the patients on lifestyle changes. It should be like this: –

i. Diet Teaching Education- what type of education will be used for teaching the patients. Where are you going to get the materials from? You must explain the Therapy in full. This must be rearranged in the project.

2. Lifestyle Changes Education must be addressed as follows: –

a. Discuss Medication Nutrition Education Therapy in full

b. Discuss Medication Adherence Education in full

c. It must specify Disease Education on Diabetes

d. It must indicate who is doing it e.g. RN, Nurse Practitioner etc.? How are they doing it? How long is it going to take or for long?

3. You must indicate what the expected result is going to be. 

4. How do you plan to measure Medication Adherence and the tools that will be used to measure it.

5. The Problem Statement must now change based on these new listed additions. It must start with “It is not known the extent to which………………

6. SAMPLE:

a. Explain why you are picking the specific number of patient population

b. Use population of adults 18 and above. Don’t limit to 45 and older.

7. Inclusion Criteria

a. Adult 18 – above with Type 2 Diabetes

b. It should state who identified it in the home health setting such Physicians since they are the ones that refer patients to the home health care for non-compliant or non-adherent to medication

8. Exclusion Criteria

a. It should state that you will exclude patients with cognitive impairment

9. Data Collection and Data Analysis

a. You must adjust both of them by using an existing method of Data Collection-please, do not make up your own

 This paper will have three parts addressing two important pieces of legislation related to the right of individuals to make health care decisions for themselves.

Part I

The Advance Health Care Directive 

Locate a copy of an advanced directive (AD) that complies with the laws of the state in which you work. The organization in which you work should have a copy of an advance directive that is given to patients. If not, download your state’s Advance Directives here http://www.caringinfo.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3289.

Complete the advance directive for yourself.  Do not turn in your AD with your paper. The AD is for your personal use.

In your paper, Part I:

  1. Identify where you obtained the AD and explain its compliance with state law.
  2. Conduct research (1-2 sources) to learn more about the AD in your state and explain how it works.   
  3. Discuss how easy or difficult it was to complete the AD. Your comments should be specific and both objective and subjective. For example, when you state your personal feelings, you must relate them to the literature (textbook and research) that discusses this process and the difficulties that many people face when completing an advance directive.

Part II

Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Form

  1. What is a Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form?
  2. When should this form be completed?
  3. Who can complete the form?
  4. Who needs to sign the form to make it a legal document?

Part III

Tie the two first sections together by writing a summary and conclusion.

This section should address:

1. the differences between an Advance Health Care Directive and the POLST,

2. the RN’s important role in assuring the patient’s right to autonomy in choosing the healthcare interventions the patient does or does not want.

Discussion: Patient Preferences and Decision Making

Changes in culture and technology have resulted in patient populations that are often well informed and educated, even before consulting or considering a healthcare need delivered by a health professional. Fueled by this, health professionals are increasingly involving patients in treatment decisions. However, this often comes with challenges, as illnesses and treatments can become complex.

What has your experience been with patient involvement in treatment or healthcare decisions?

In this Discussion, you will share your experiences and consider the impact of patient involvement (or lack of involvement). You will also consider the use of a patient decision aid to inform best practices for patient care and healthcare decision making.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on a time when you experienced a patient being brought into (or not being brought into) a decision regarding their treatment plan.

By Day 3 of Week 8

Post a brief description of the situation you experienced and explain how incorporating or not incorporating patient preferences and values impacted the outcome of their treatment plan. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how including patient preferences and values might impact the trajectory of the situation and how these were reflected in the treatment plan. Finally, explain the value of the patient decision aid you selected and how it might contribute to effective decision making, both in general and in the experience you described. Describe how you might use this decision aid inventory in your professional practice or personal life.

Examine contemporary leadership models and theories and in a 1,000-1,250-word paper, explain why these models or theories are effective tools for leaders who serve in health care organizations. Include the following:

  1. Discuss the correlation between effective leadership and organizational performance in health care.
  2. Discuss why it is important for regulatory professionals to practice good leadership. Outline effective strategies for regulatory leadership and explain why these are essential in health care.
  3. Describe how the concept of stewardship from servant leadership relates to a Christian worldview. Explain how stewardship relates to professional responsibility, how it can be applied in a health care setting that serves diverse populations, and the potential benefits for stakeholders and the organization overall.
  4. Distinguish between informal and formal leadership. Explain how informal leaders influence others and how this impacts a health care organization.
  5. Select one additional theory or model that you think would be effective for a health care leader to employ. Provide an overview of the model or theory and explain what aspects would be effective and why.

A minimum of three academic references from credible sources are required for this assignment.

You have to create an E-Poster on what you see as the future of nursing practice and the role of nursing in the emerging health-care environment. You need to predict the future based on present evidence.

The E-Poster needs to include the following:

2. Statement of the issue

3. Evidence supporting the issue 

4. Prediction of the future role of the nurse 

5. Conclusion 

6. References: minimum of three references from peer-reviewed nursing journals (encourage the use of international journals). Articles need to be within the last 3 years unless historical.
