Topic 1 Health Problems

• Which area, rural or urban, has the most health problems? Why?
• Identify four common health problems found in that selected area.

Topic 2 Intervention Wheel

• Choose two of the interventions, from the Intervention Wheel Chapter 9, that you feel are most important. Why did you select these two?
• Discuss how they can be used with an aggregate.

Justify your responses with resources

Now that you are a little more than halfway into your practice immersion experience and may have exposure to public health through your own professional career, you know that there are many challenges facing public health professionals—one of which is initiative and program funding sustainability. Many public health programs depend on grant funding, whether governmental or private, and philanthropic support. This support is based on the organization’s ability to demonstrate fiscal responsibility and program cost-effectiveness.

For this discussion, imagine you are an agency director of a program that treats victims of violence admitted to the local hospital. Make a proposal to a local philanthropic funding agency, describing the strategy for your program to decrease incidence of hospital admissions due to violence and ways in which their financial commitment to your program will result in a return on investment for the community. You can add substance to the scenario by providing additional details about the program’s goals and your plan to achieve them. Support your plan with evidence from course materials or other professional sources.

Case Assignment

In Module 1, you will establish the foundation for the report by applying what you learned from your Public Health, Epidemiology, and Health Statistics courses to do the following:

1. Describe the epidemiology of tuberculosis.
2. Identify three factors (social, economic, and/or political) that have contributed to the global resurgence of TB.
3. Compare and contrast statistics regarding tuberculosis globally, in the United States, and in your state (identify the state about which you are writing).
4. Summarize continuing challenges to TB control in the United States.

Length: 4 pages, excluding title page and references.
