Choose one of the following case study descriptions and answer the following questions:

Case study 1: Adult female (26) with high blood pressure

Case study 2: Adult male (40) with high cholesterol

Case study 3: Elderly (65) Spanish speaking person with atrial fibrillation

1. Present a summary of the patient’s condition (Description, causes, risk factors, etc).

2. What evidence-based practice health promotion nursing interventions (strategies) would you suggest for this patient?

3. What resources and/or technology applications could be provided to guide the patient in self-management of his condition or in maintaining health and preventing disease? Be specific by providing an actual, usable app or website.

Answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

   

  1. If you      were in charge of implementing a sweeping reorganization of the CDC, what      management relationship behaviors would you use? Who would you target with      these behaviors?
  2. If you      are a female, is there a need to act differently when you manage the      relationships in an all-male leadership group?
  3. If you      are a male, is there a reason for a woman to act differently if she is in      a relationship with you.
  4. Based      on the case example in chapter 9 does the fact that Dr. Gerberding has      expressed her own experience with discrimination make it more or less      likely that she did not manage her relationship with the all-male      management team well?

1. Describe one internal and one external method for the dissemination of your evidence-based change proposal. For example, an internal method may be the hospital board, and an external method may be a professional nursing organization. 

2. Discuss why it is important to report your change proposal to both of these groups. How will your communication strategies change for each group?

Darlene, age 32 years, has been having back pain for a number of years, ever since suffering a compressed L2 disc as the result of a motor vehicle accident that led to surgery and extensive physiotherapy. Now she is missing time from work as a secretary because of constant pain. Darlene has been referred to you for chronic pain.

1. As the nurse practitioner working with Darlene, what aspects of disorders of pain are important to understand?

2. How would you effectively manage Darlene’s pain at this time?

Incivility and bullying occur in the classroom as well as the clinical environment in a number of ways:

Incivility and bullying not only affect the well-being of the people involved, but it also puts patient safety at risk. Post your thoughts on some of the causes of incivility and bullying in the classroom and clinical environments, and suggest approaches that can be used to avoid this type of behavior.

Community Teaching Plan: Teaching Experience Paper

The RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), using nontraditional experiences for practicing nurses. These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, specific care discipline, and local communities.
