Discussion 1 and 2 ,250 words each one and assessment question by 12/9/2020 at 6 :00 pm,please add references and citations

The theoretical foundations of qualitative and quantitative methods are very different, but many researchers believe both methods should be used in the research study to increase validity and reliability. What advantages or disadvantages do you see in using both types of methods in a nursing study? Support your answer with current evidence-based literature

Discussion 2

According to the textbook, nurses in various settings are adopting a research-based (or evidence-based) practice that incorporates research findings into their decisions and interactions with clients. How do you see this being applied in your workplace

Term Paper Outline Template

TOPIC TO BE WRITTEN ON IS IN THE UPLOADED DOUMENT

Outline

You will want to delete ALL the blue text in this outline and replace it with information specific to your topic. Please use in-text APA citations throughout your outline. Show me what sources you’re using in your paper and whereyou’re using them. Your outline should be detailed; writing your rough draft from your outline should be easy.

I.  Introduction–

a.  Point 1: Introduce the topic with background information and define terminology. Go from broad to specific. Think of your introduction as an upside-down triangle.

b.  Point 2: Get more specific here.

c.  Point 3: Get even MORE specific here.

d.  Thesis statement: Your final sentence should mention that the paper will discuss ethical arguments surrounding your topic.

II.  Body Paragraph 1 – Technical aspects of your topic—

a.  Topic Sentence: Your topic sentence goes here. In this paragraph, you will talk about what we need to know in order to understand your topic.  Your audience needs to know the “what” before you talk about ethical arguments. For example, I can’t properly argue that we need more PPE masks to fight COVID-19 if I don’t first tell my audience what PPE is and what COVID-19 is.

b.  Additional detail 1: ________________________________________

c.  Additional detail 2:________________________________________

d.  Additional detail 3:________________________________________

III.  Body Paragraph 2 – Description of public policy debates surrounding your topic—

a.  Topic Sentence: Your topic sentence goes here. In this paragraph, you’ll give additional background/history of the topic—what laws exist? Are there monumental cases? You want to set up the debate. If I want to argue that additional money needs to be allocated for PPE, I need to let my audience know why there isn’t enough PPE in the first place. What laws or policy decisions led to the place we’re currently in? What are some monumental cases (for example, Brittany Maynard for PAS or Roe v. Wade for abortion).

b.  Additional detail 1:________________________________________

c.  Additional detail 2:________________________________________

d.  Additional detail 3:________________________________________

IV.  Body Paragraph 3 – Why is ___ Ethical?

a.  Topic Sentence: What is one “side” of the debate? Make sure that you’re making ethical arguments here. Instead of “reporting” what one side believes, I want you to make the argument. You’ll be saying something like “PAS is considered ethical because of A, B, and C.”

b.  Supporting detail: Here you’ll explain your first reasons why your issue is ethical. For every supporting detail, you’ll want to have a fact taken from a source. For example, if I am arguing that PAS is ethical because it supports the principle of autonomy, I want to bring in a source that talks about autonomy. I want to cite that source here (author, date).

c.  Explanation of supporting detail #1: After that, you will have a sentence or two that explains the connects the “source” or “fact” back to your topic sentence. Let’s say that your first supporting detail was that X% of people file for bankruptcy each year. You have to tell me how that connects to your argument that health care access should be expanded. Is it unethical that X% of people go bankrupt for something out of their control? If so, you want to state that.

d.  Supporting detail 2: Repeat the above supporting detail #2.

e.  Explanation of supporting detail #2: Repeat the above supporting detail #2.

f.  Supporting detail 3: Repeat the above supporting detail #3.

g.  Explanation of supporting detail #3: Repeat the above supporting detail #3.

V.  Body Paragraph 4 – The Other Side

a.  Topic Sentence: Write your topic sentence here. In this paragraph, you will outline the points made by the “other side” and tell me why their thinking is wrong.

b.  Supporting detail 1: What is one reason why people think about ___ differently? For example, maybe their religious views tell them that PAS is unethical. Explain that point and cite your source.

c.  Refute supporting detail #1: After that, tell me what YOUR side would say about that. Why is this thinking incorrect, incomplete, or flat out wrong? For example, you might talk about how religious views should be respected, but s unethical to based laws on one groups religious beliefs. You might use a citation here as well.

d.  Supporting detail 2: Give me another premise used by the other side. Citation, please!

e.  Refute of supporting detail #2: Refute it.

f.  Supporting detail 3: Give me another premise used by the other side.

g.  Refute supporting detail #3: Refute it.

VI.  Opinion and Conclusion

a.  Restate your thesis: Give me a one sentence recap. What was this paper about?

b.  Statement of Opinion (don’t use “I”/first person). Here you will reiterate what the most ethical position is.

c.  Give me a brief summary of why this is the case 2-3 sentences here. You might want to consider rephrasing the reasons why ___ is ethical and the reasons why the other side is wrong.

d.  Concluding sentence/statement Give me a one sentence, final take away.

Concepts and theories in nursing

 Parse’s Human Becoming Theory

Write a 1250-1500 word APA paper addressing each of the following points. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least two (2) sources and your textbook using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page in correct APA do not count towards the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

Case Study

The hospice nurse sat with Ann’s husband, Ben. Ann was resting quietly as the increased dosage of IV pain medication gradually reached its therapeutic level. Ben turned his head and slowly turned, looking out the room’s only window. As he glanced up, a small flicker of light caught his breath. It was a shooting star. A tear fell from the corner of his eye and he turned to Ann. The nurse sensed that something significant to Ann and Ben was unfolding. Shuffling to Ann’s bedside, he took her small fragile hand in his. These hands had rocked cradles, burped babies, and groomed the horses she loved to ride. Gently holding her hand, he turned to the nurse. “She would ride like the wind was chasing her.” Looking back to Ann his voice broke; choking back tears “Ann, Ann I saw Jessie…Jessie is calling.” Ben turned “Jessie was our daughter. She died having a baby that was too big. When she died it was a pitch-black night. Cold, so cold, the baby died too, a little boy, named him Abe, Jr. after Jessie’s husband. I took Ann outside so she could cry to God above and there in this dark sky we saw two falling stars…together…just falling. We knew it had to be Jessie and Abe…two angels to light up the night.” Ben turned back as a deep sigh escaped from Ann’s lips. A soft smile remained as she joined Jessie and Abe.

  • Based on this case study how would the nurse actualize Parse’s theory of Human Becoming?
  • What are characteristics of a human becoming nurse?  What are strengths and weaknesses to this theory of nursing?
  • What challenges exist for healthcare institutions to switch to this nursing approach?
  • How might Parse’s understanding of transcendence guide the nurse, as Ann’s death became a reality to Ben?
  • From the nursing theories we have discussed, what additional theory would you apply to this case study? Develop a plan of care to include both nursing theories (be specific and provide reasons)

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is for learners to:

Improve their knowledge base and understanding of disease processes in Neurology

Have the opportunity to integrate  knowledge and skills learned throughout all core courses in the FNP  track and previous clinical courses.

Demonstrate the ability to analyze the  literature be able to perform an evidenced-based review of disease  presentation, diagnosis and treatment.

Demonstrate professional communication and leadership, while advancing the education of peers.

Demonstrate the ability to take  information from assigned readings and translate it into the way you  would describe it to a patient or family member in your own words.

Activity Learning Outcomes

Through this discussion, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Interpret  subjective and objective data to develop appropriate diagnoses and  evidence based management plans for patients and families with complex  or multiple diagnoses across the lifespan. (CO 1)
  2. Develop management plans based on current scientific evidence and national guidelines. (CO 4)

Requirements:

For Week 1 of the course there is no case study given to you by the Faculty. Instead you will be assigned two  diseases to compare and contrast based on the first letter of your last  name. This information will be posted in the Course Announcements under  Week 1 Welcome as well as the “Assignment” portion of the Week 1 module  and will change every session.

A comparison and contrast assignment’s focus is to identify and explore similarities and differences between two similar diseases. The goal of this exploration is to bring about a better understanding of both diseases.

You will research the two areas of content assigned to you and compare and contrast them in a discussion  post. NOTE: A comparison and contrast assignment is not about listing  the info regarding each disease separately but rather looking at each  disease side by side and discussing the similarities and differences given the categories below. Consider how each patient would actually present to the office. Paint a picture of how that patient would look, act, what story they would tell.   Consider how their history would affect their diagnosis, etc.  Evaluation of mastery is focused on the student’s ability to demonstrate  specific understanding of how the diagnoses differ and relate to one  another. Address the following topics below in your own words:

  • Presentation
  • Pathophysiology
  • Assessment
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment

Compare and contrast the following diagnoses as assigned:

According to the Health Determinants video, the determinants of health are biological and genetic makeup, individual behavior, social interactions and norms, and physical environment. The video introduced an elderly man named James who lives in a low-income neighborhood and does not have close access to the grocery store to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Therefore, his environment puts him at risk for getting diabetes because he gets most of his food from convenience stores and fast food restaurants. Interventions to solve health disparities involve information, policies and programs. The intervention proposed for James is to introduce a subsidized farmers market that is walking distance in his neighborhood for low-income seniors (Determinants of Health, 2020).

In my experience, I know an elderly individual who is in the same situation as James from the video. She currently does not live near a supermarket and has to take the bus which is more difficult now because of COVID. I have convinced her son to move her to another apartment complex that has a market attached to the first floor so it is walking distance. I believe that the change in environment would benefit her health.

ne of the patient encounters in which I experienced a health disparity, that was a determinant of the patient’s health was when I attended a patient in a marginalized minority who was unable to pay for her medical bills. Being from a low-income household that has been disadvantaged for a long time, the patient experienced a disparity in health conditions due to their social and economic history. There was credible proof that this patient, who was from a disadvantaged low-income group, faced systemic barriers to receiving quality and affordable health care (Adler et al., 2016).

The state of health of this patient was very serious and emergency medical attention was needed to save her life.  Any delay in providing this patient with basic treatment would minimize her chances of survival. However, by being a victim of health inequality, an opportunity came up to assist her to gain access to healthcare services (Wilhelm & Allen, 2018).I exploited the opportunity and acted by engaging the hospital social worker to help her secure healthcare services without the financial burden and. However, the social worker responded but failed to provide a comprehensive solution to this patient, making my efforts to help the patient futile. The social worker did not provide the financial assistance and only requested for crowd funding to be organized to raise the costs of the healthcare service (Marmot, 2018).

Should such a case present itself the next time, I would consider seeking intervention from the hospital management to put such a patient under persons with special interests who require affirmative health care services. I would also encourage such patients to secure public health insurance to enable them to access medical services without having to pay out of pocket. Such a different approach to a similar situation in the future will help me achieve a positive outcome in solving the challenges caused by health disparities and achieving health equity for all populations.
