Walden University’s web-based learning has information that is fairly easy to locate by searching their website for assistance. Searching for scholarly, peer review articles on the main Internet can be tedious and tasking and sometimes pertain to inadequate information. In order to successfully find these particular articles, I went to the Academic Skills Center (ASC) on Walden University’s website and searched how to obtain said articles (Walden University Academic Answers). The ASC recommended using the Walden Library and researching by the subject. Once you decide on your subject in which you are searching, you then check the box that says Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Journals Only on the page.

Since I work in a critical care setting, I chose Nursing as my subject then searched for ICU nursing and burnout. COVID-19 has been the main struggle for us, as nurses, and we are emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausted in the critical care setting. Intensive care employees are subject to many liabilities on a day to day basis, which in turn can have an effect on patient care. Fortunatti & Palmeiro-Silva define burnout as emotional fatigue that is job-related, detached relationships and defiance toward clients and colleagues, and a decrease in professional achievements and worth (2017). This study used nurses (RNs) and nurse assistants (NAs) to determine whether or not there was a relationship between unrewarded work, burnout, and patient care were correlated. The researchers found that positive work appreciation showed not only a decrease in burnout but also an increase in an exceptional level of patient care (Fortunatti & Palmeiro-Silva, 2017).

Walden University’s online Library was very straightforward and timesaving, which seems to be the most effective way for me to find scholarly, peer-reviewed articles when searching for them.  Walden University’s Library Database (Academic Guides) was another simple way to research certain articles in alphabetical order in which you can distinguish peer review articles versus articles that are not peer-based. In my opinion, I would highly recommend both of these resources to all of my classmates due to the user-friendliness and ease in order to find their

QUESTIONS

 What is the differential diagnosis?

What would be any further screening  or treatment options?

What is her risk of developing breast cancer?

A 37-year-old woman G2P2 presents with a lump in her left breast. Her  husband noticed it recently and she is concerned, especially as she had  an aunt that had breast cancer and thinks that a great-grandmother or  some other ancestor may have died of breast cancer as well. Both of her  children (9 and 7) were delivered without complication and she breastfed  “for well over a year” with each. She has no other significant PMH or  allergies. She is 5’ 6” tall, weighs 144 pounds and has a BMI of 22 and  works as an office manager. She is a non-smoker, considers herself to be  an “almost” vegetarian and has a glass of wine many evenings with  dinner. She has regular physicals and is up to date on pap smears which  have always been normal. Meds include a daily multi-vitamin and  occasional acetaminophen for tension headache or ibuprofen during her  period. Upon examination, the lump is discovered. It is firm and near  the surface and no other masses are discovered. The lump is aspirated,  and an opaque liquid is removed. Following this procedure, the lump has  vanished.

Part 1: Community Nursing

The school nurse has a unique role in the provision of school health services for children with special health needs, including children with chronic illnesses and disabilities with various degrees of severity. This case describes the role of the school nurse caring for a child with type 1 diabetes.

Susan has two students with type 1 diabetes in her school, one requires blood glucose monitoring and daily insulin injections, while the other has a continuous insulin infusion pump. The incidence of type 1 diabetes presents a complex challenge to school healthcare providers. Type 1 diabetes ranks as the second most common chronic illness in childhood, second only to asthma. The American Diabetes Association (ADA, 2015) reports that about 193,000 Americans under age 20 live with diabetes and 17,900 are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes annually, and another 5,300 with type 2 diabetes. Children with diabetes are considered disabled and as such are protected under federal laws that prohibit discrimination against children with disabilities. Studies show that the majority of school personnel have an inadequate understanding of effective diabetes management. It is best for the student to monitor blood glucose and respond to the results as quickly as possible to avoid possible complications.

1. When the school nurse is unavailable, who is legally responsible for providing care to a child with diabetes?

2. Explain why

Part 2:  Nursing and the Aging Family

2. Describe the clinical manifestations

Statistics is used to prove or disprove a question of probability, typically using the scientific method in order to determine if a hypothesis can be accepted or rejected. According to Page (2014), “Statistical significance is based on assumptions and the sample tested should be representative of the entire clinical population.”

On the other hand, clinical researchers as well as clinicians must concentrate on clinically significant changes, even though clinical significance is really not at all well-defined or understood for that matter. Unfortunately, statistically significant outcomes are often mistaken for clinical relevance. Effect size is one of the most important indicators of clinical significance, reflecting the magnitude of the difference in outcomes between groups (experimental and control) (Page, 2014). Clinically relevant measures, such as effect size, meaningful differences, etc. should be taken into consideration when interpreting and implementing results of evidence-based approaches to clinical decision making.

Practical clinical significance answers the question, how effective is the intervention or treatment, or how much change does the treatment causes. Therefore, I would use clinical significance by assessing the effectiveness of medication and assessing the correlation between independent and dependent variables to asses if the pre-test and post-test have any positive results to the overall treatment and prevention of UTIs.
