Components of Knowledge Management

According to the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), the four core components of knowledge management are:

  • Governance: The leadership that commits to an organizational structure that is capable of managing the knowledge.
  • Content: The quantity and quality of the data and information that is managed.
  • Processes: The standards and guidelines that will be used to collect, manage, and disseminate information.
  • Technology: The system supporting the other three components.

Tasks:

CHI and Knowledge Management

In Week 2, we discussed EHRs as they relate to knowledge management. This week, we take a look at the consumer perspective of PHR, Social Networking, Home Telemedicine, and Smart Phone Technology. Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research EHR. Based on your research and understanding, answer the following questions:

  • Identify and describe the stakeholders involved in collecting and stakeholders involved with contributing to data collection in the Personal Health Record systems and other consumer informatics tools such as smartphone applications.
  • Examine the role of knowledge management components in consumer informatics.
  • Justify the importance of health literacy for patient empowerment in consumer informatics.

Motivation-Due in 4 hours

This week’s PowerPoint lecture is about motivation.  As you can see, there are many perspectives on what constitutes motivation and how to engage it.

Most likely you can imagine many examples of motivating.  If you watched any of the multiple big sports championships over these past weeks, you saw the coaches preparing their teams.  High stakes in the sports world and for host city, team, and fan (i.e. those who pay the salaries) pride.  Yet, in some ways this is easier than the task you face as a healthcare administrator.  Sports teams have a shared goal (no pun intended), a common language and lexicon, and finite circumstances.

In healthcare, the team is comprised of multiple constituencies, some of which are organizationally separate (e.g., typically the hospital and medical staffs are two independent entities).  As has been discussed this past week, patients come from many backgrounds, with diverse beliefs and myriad expectations.  Navigating that environment take a different set of skills.

Then, briefly review insights to Servant Leadership, available at: http://ctb.ku.edu/en/table-of-contents/leadership/leadership-ideas/servant-leadership/main and https://www.butler.edu/volunteer/resources/ten-principles-servant-leadership

When you have reviewed these resources, please respond to this week’s Discussion topic.

Here is a TEDx presentation that presents a very interesting perspective on the future:

After you watch it (it’s about 17 minutes long), then discuss the following questions:

1. What do think of the video’s basic premise?

2. What do you imagine the future of healthcare to be like?

Here are some additional YouTubes to help spark your thinking:

short answers.

Cannabis is one of the most frequently used illicit substance in the U.S; with a mixed effect on the health of the population. Despite potential benefits, the use of cannabis has been linked with various adverse effects, especially among adolescents (Hall & Lynskey 2016). Classic negative effects include increased risk of using other drugs, diminished life satisfaction, cognitive impairment, and impaired short-term memory. Although the laws and regulations that have been enacted both at the state and federal levels have been to regulate cannabis use, there are waves or movements that seek to decriminalize and legalize the use of cannabis.

Cannabis legalization affects public safety issues. About 79% of U.S residents believe that the legalization of cannabis in the country would increase the number of car accidents caused by cannabis-user drivers (Young, Padwa & Bonar 2019). Public health will also be affected when cannabis is legalized. Various studies have shown that the legalization of cannabis is associated with lower rates of opioid-related overdose, harm, and death. This could significantly improve health for the general population in the present environment of the opioid epidemic. While most Americans opposing the legalization of cannabis maintain that it would lead to individuals using more addictive and stronger drugs, there has not been enough support for this belief.

In several states with legalized cannabis, it has been reported that the use of cannabis among the youth has not changed with respect to the states where the substance is not legalized. Research has not indicated any effect of cannabis legalization on the graduation or dropout rates. In conclusion, so far, research findings have shown that the legalization of cannabis can have several positive social effects, and more would definitely come with additional states considering legalizing cannabis.

answer a questions

You have been a CPA for many years and recently opened your own practice focusing on small businesses. You have a meeting with a client, Jack, who has an interesting career as a professional gambler. He makes about $100,000 per year and has won many tournaments on the circuit. He is considering entering the WSOP to play for “the bracelet.”

As is standard procedure, you ask Jack for his taxes, and he says he hasn’t filed taxes since 2016 (meaning he has not filed 2017, 2018, and 2019, where 2019 is the current year), because he does not work, due to his time spent playing poker and attending tournaments. He actually says he is now concerned because his father said he should have been filing taxes, but he believed an accountant he met at a party, who after many, many martinis said he would not have to file taxes because this is a “hobby.”

Your tasks:

Jack makes good money now, but in 2017 he thinks he had losses and barely broke even in 2018. The first project Jack agrees to pay you for ($1300 max) is for a tax memo concerning this issue.

1. Using an appropriate research tool, research to see if Gambling is income and subject to tax.

2. Using an appropriate research tool, research to see if Jack does have to file or not.

3. Assuming he does (regardless of the answer above), can you still file a return he has not filed previously in 2017 and 2018?

Using the information above, write the memo using the header below:
