Practice Change Simulation

Practice Change Simulation

Assignment Description:

Create a 7-9 minute video that reflects upon the clinical problem that you have identified in your area of nursing practice (as identified in Module 1). Critically appraise the research and summarize the knowledge available on the clinical problem (minimum requirement of 6 scholarly journal articles reviewed and appraised for application to practice problem). Outline a strategic plan for implementation of a practice change in your clinical practice environment based upon your findings. Describe how you intend to operationalize the practice change in your practice environment. What theoretical model will you use and how will you overcome barriers to implementation? What sources of internal evidence will you use in providing data to demonstrate improvement in outcomes? Describe evaluation methods of implementation clearly. Are there any ethical considerations?

The presentation should be a simulation of what you would present to your unit staff in an effort to gain buy-in as you initiate the practice change in your area of practice. Use a recording platform of your choice and either upload as an mp4 or share the link directly to the video in the dropbox. ***Please do not record as voice-over PowerPoint because this cannot be saved in mp4 format or a link.*** If you submit your assignment as a PowerPoint with voice over recording you will not receive credit for your assignment (or partial credit as you did not meet the full requirements of the assignment.)

If PowerPoint is used for the presentation, include the reference slide; if PowerPoint is not used in the presentation, please submit a list of the references in a Word document utilized to develop the presentation in APA format to the dropbox in a separate submission (be sure to orally cite your sources if no PowerPoint is used to identify the sources)

Assignment Expectations:

Length: 7-9 minute presentation (with or without PowerPoint slides); if no PowerPoint used submit APA Reference list separately
Structure: If PowerPoint is used: Include a title slide, objective slide, content slides, reference slide in APA format. There is no specific slide number required.

Discussion 1: Evidence Base in Design

When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety.

In this Discussion, you will identify a recently proposed health policy and share your analysis of the evidence in support of this policy.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Congress website provided in the Resources and identify one recent (within the past 5 years) proposed health policy.

Discussion Week 11

Is Wealthier Healthier?

African nations tend not to have lower health outcomes, experiencing epidemics of infectious and non-communicable diseases across the continent. There is substantial health inequality among and within many nations in Africa. Similar disparities in health also exist in Latin America. Cuba, Costa Rica, and Chile have health outcomes comparable to the United States, while Haiti’s health outcomes are comparable to the less healthy parts of Africa.

A variety of arguments can be made for the reasons why there is great health inequity in these regions. Some relate to the different colonial histories since health is transmitted inter-generationally. Colonization, neoliberal globalization, including free market, free trade, and the unrestricted flow of capital with little government influence, has resulted in large wealth inequalities. Some countries have cut their government spending on health programs, which has led to devastating health outcomes.

For this Discussion, examine countries and their health problems.

To prepare for this Discussion, review Week 10 and Week 11 Learning Resources. Select two countries with different per-capita income levels such that one could be classified as a “high income” nation and the other would not be classified in the same income category. Note: You may use The World Bank website in your Learning Resources to identify countries and their income levels.

Post a brief summary comparing the two countries and their health problems. Also, compare how the economic level and income inequality in each country influenced other social determinants (social dynamics, the status of women, education, or violence/homicide, etc.) for each country. Then, explain the impact of the determinants on the health outcome in each country. Expand on your insights utilizing the Learning Resources.

Use APA formatting for your Discussion and to cite your resources.

Quality improvement changes or education programs can come across many different barriers as time continues. One barrier that could occur with my education program as time passes is that the education is not as updated with the current resources available to assist the new parents. New gadgets to assist with breastfeeding and soothing are constantly being put on the market so my education could be behind the times in 6 months, a year, etc… Another potential barrier could be the change in frequently asked questions. It appears that throughout all postpartum and newborn time periods, similar questions do arise however there could be new questions that require answers that would not be on the current education pamphlet.

The best way to continue the effectiveness of this education program for the OB clinic includes continuously updating the education, receiving feedback from the community and utilizing knowledge from the frequently asked questions to make the changes that are necessary to assist with postpartum and newborn questions.
