The purpose of this assignment is to make explicit to yourself (primarily) and the reader, your developing and evolving identity as a professional nurse, at this point in time. To do this you will write a personal story that is focused on your development and exemplifies your self-authorship of becoming a baccalaureate-prepared nurse. Use this assignment as a time for self-reflection as a practitioner in nursing and tell your story based on your socialization and professional development in nursing.

Criteria for the Philosophy and Vision for Nursing assignment: 

I. Journey through your development of nursing ideals, and discuss prior notions and beliefs about nursing.

• Describe where you were when you started and became socialized into nursing.
• Reflect upon what you have learned and “unlearned” regarding your notions or beliefs about nursing.
• Describe your core values, such as: moral courage, compassion, respect, integrity and how these may have changed as you moved through your journey as a baccalaureate student.

II. Looking through a new lens as a baccalaureate prepared nurse, write a personal statement that describes your philosophy and vision for nursing. This is an opportunity to craft a clear picture of your thinking with regard to your newly earned designation as a BS prepared RN:

• Identify the major values, attributes, and concepts you now embody as critical to your development as a professional in nursing.
• Examine how your philosophy of nursing either changed or strengthened as you progressed throughout the baccalaureate nursing program. Explain how these embodied values have now changed your views of nursing.
• Identify specific principles or concepts of selected nursing theories, standards of practice and/or IOM recommendations that provide a framework for your personal philosophy of nursing and clearly state what draws you to choosing and embracing them.
• Discuss your vision for the future of nursing and where you envision nursing evolving.

Despite the high mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disorders, improved treatment options do exist that can help address those risk factors that afflict the majority of the population today.

As an advanced practice nurse, it is your responsibility to recommend appropriate treatment options for patients with cardiovascular disorders. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of drug therapy, advanced practice nurses must consider aspects that might influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes such as medical history, other drugs currently prescribed, and individual patient factors.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is an independent, volunteer group of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine that makes recommendations about clinical preventive services such as screening tests, counseling services, and preventive medications.The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is an independent, volunteer group of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine that makes recommendations about clinical preventive services such as screening tests, counseling services, and preventive medications. The USPSTF is made up of 16 volunteer members who come from the fields of preventive medicine and primary care, including internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, obstetrics/gynecology, and nursing. All members volunteer their time to serve on the USPSTF, and most are practicing clinicians (Oyola, 2020).

Cervical cancer screening recommendations by the USPSTF: The USPSTF recommends screening for cervical cancer every 3 years with cervical cytology alone in women aged 21 to 29 years. For women aged 30 to 65 years, the USPSTF recommends screening every 3 years with cervical cytology alone, every 5 years with high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing alone, or every 5 years with hrHPV testing in combination with cytology (cotesting). The USPSTF found convincing evidence that screening with cervical cytology alone, primary testing for high-risk HPV types (hrHPV testing) alone, or in combination at the same time (cotesting) can detect high-grade precancerous cervical lesions and cervical cancer (Curry, 2018).

Chief Complaint: “I have pain during intercourse and urination”

History of Present Illness (HPI): A 19-year-old female reports to you that she has “sores” on and in her vagina for the last three months.

Drug Hx: She tries to practice safe sex but has a steady boyfriend and figures she doesn’t need to be so careful since she is on the birth control pill

Subjective: states “I have sores and bumps on the inner creases of my thighs and pelvic area”. “There is yellowish discharge from the sores that comes and goes”

Objective Data: VS temperature: 100.2°F; pulse 92; respirations 18; BP 122/78; weight 156 lbs, 25 lbs overweight; height 5′3″

 General: patient appears to have good hygiene; minimal makeup, pierced ears, no tattoos; well nourished (slightly overweight); no obvious distress noted

HEENT: Atraumatic, normocephalic, PERRLA, EOMI, conjunctiva and sclera clear; nares patent, nasopharynx clear, good dentition. Piercing in her right nostril and lower lip.

Lungs: within normal limits, appropriate lung sounds auscultated, clear and equal bilaterally

Card: S1S2 without rub or gallop

Breast: • INSPECTION: no dimpling or abnormalities noted upon inspection
