Discussion 1: Leadership Theories in Practice

A walk through the Business section of any bookstore or a quick Internet search on the topic will reveal a seemingly endless supply of writings on leadership. Formal research literature is also teeming with volumes on the subject.

However, your own observation and experiences may suggest these theories are not always so easily found in practice. Not that the potential isn’t there; current evidence suggests that leadership factors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behaviors, for example, can be highly effective for leading nurses and organizations.

Yet, how well are these theories put to practice? In this Discussion, you will examine formal leadership theories. You will compare these theories to behaviors you have observed firsthand and discuss their effectiveness in impacting your organization.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and examine the leadership theories and behaviors introduced.
  • Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
  • Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.

By Day 3 of Week 4

Post two key insights you had from the scholarly resources you selected. Describe a leader whom you have seen use such behaviors and skills, or a situation where you have seen these behaviors and skills used in practice. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain to what extent these skills were effective and how their practice impacted the workplace.

unit 2 discussion

It is important for nursing scholars and practitioners to apply the right types of theories to their practices in order to gain greater insight into understanding why human beings do what they do. The components of nursing knowledge, the metaparadigm, conceptual frameworks, models, and theories support the translation of nursing knowledge into real-world practice.

  • What is the difference between a model, theory, framework, and philosophy?
  • How are they related? (Discriminate between the concepts).

Discussion post: workarounds and their implications for patients safety

  1. 1. What is a workaround? Identify a workaround (specific to technology used in a hospital setting) that you have used or perhaps seen someone else use, and analyze why you feel this risk-taking behavior was chosen over behavior that conforms to a safety culture. What are the risks? Are there benefits? Why or why not?
  2. 2. Discuss the current patient safety characteristics used by your current workplace or clinical site. Identify at least three aspects of your workplace or clinical environment that need to be changed with regard to patient safety (including confidentiality), and then suggest strategies for change.

P.S. I only need half-page, please follow the instructions questions and answers as it asks. I need two references one from McGonigle, D., & Mastrian, K. G. (2018). Nursing informatics and the foundation of knowledge (4th Ed) book and others from the scholarly articles. That is less than five years published.

HRSA data warehouse

  1. Read about the HRSA Data website and what it does here: https://datawarehouse.hrsa.gov/about/abouthdw.aspx
  2. Explore the rest of the tabs on the site.
  3. Watch the “How-To Video: Find a Health Center Locator Tool” tutorial found at the following link: https://data.hrsa.gov/how-to-videos
  4. Explore some data by selecting Clark County, Nevada using the Data by Geography tool here: https://data.hrsa.gov/hdw/tools/DataByGeography.aspx
  5. Next use the HRSA Fact Sheets tool located here: https://data.hrsa.gov/data/fact-sheets to look up HRSA’s activities in HHS regions, states, counties, and congressional districts and compare the data to the Clark County, Nevada data you found using your geography results. Analyze the data included in the fact sheets. Consider the data sets found in the fact sheets. How does Nevada compare nationwide when it comes to the data sets? What about Clark County?
  6. Complete a new search using the Data for Geography tool for your state and county (Dade County, Florida). Compare the results of your query to your Clark County, Nevada search.
  7. Identify HRSA program resources for HIV/AIDS in your state and county. What are they? How many clinics are funded by HRSA?

Write a two-page paper reflecting on the data you collected and analyzed. How will this data warehouse be useful to you as a professional nurse? Your paper should be at least two pages in length, in APA format, typed in Times New Roman with 12-point font, and double-spaced with 1” margins.

Global Healthcare Comparison Matrix and Narrative Statement

If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?

You would have a difficult time practicing as a nurse if you believed these to be true. But they are very real beliefs in some cultures.

Differences in cultural beliefs, subcultures, religion, ethnic customs, dietary customs, language, and a host of other factors contribute to the complex environment that surrounds global healthcare issues. Failure to understand and account for these differences can create a gulf between practitioners and the public they serve.

In this Assignment, you will examine a global health issue and consider the approach to this issue by the United States and by one other country.

To Prepare:

  • Review the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global      health agenda and select one global health issue to focus on for this      Assignment.
  • Select at least one additional country to compare to      the U.S. for this Assignment.
  • Reflect on how the global health issue you selected is      approached in the U.S. and in the additional country you selected.
  • Review and download the Global Health Comparison Matrix      provided in the Resources.

The Assignment: (2- to 3-page Global Health Comparison Matrix;

1-page Plan for Social Change)

Part 1: Global Health Comparison Matrix

Focusing on the country you selected and the U.S., complete the Global Health Comparison Matrix. Be sure to address the following:

  • Consider the U.S. national/federal health policies that      have been adapted for the global health issue you selected from the WHO      global health agenda. Compare these policies to the additional country you      selected for study.
  • Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each policy.
  • Explain how the social determinants of health may      impact the global health issue you selected. Be specific and provide      examples.
  • Using the WHO’s Organization’s global health agenda as      well as the results of your own research, analyze how each country’s      government addresses cost, quality, and access to the global health issue      selected.
  • Explain how the health policy you selected might impact      the health of the global population. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Explain how the health policy you selected might impact      the role of the nurse in each country.
  • Explain how global health issues impact local      healthcare organizations and policies in both countries. Be specific and      provide examples.

Part 2: A Plan for Social Change

Reflect on the global health policy comparison and analysis you conducted in Part 1 of the Assignment and the impact that global health issues may have on the world, the U.S., your community, as well as your practice as a nurse leader.

In a 2-page response, create a plan for social change that incorporates a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.

  • Explain how you would advocate for the incorporation of      a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse   leader.
  • Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens might impact your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
  • Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective      or lens into your local practice as a nurse leader represents and      contributes to social change. Be specific and provide examples

Public Health Course: Shortage of Ethnic Dermatologist

For various reasons, there is a shortage of racial and ethnic diversity in the medical workforce.

Underrepresentation in the medical profession of racial and ethnic backgrounds means that the perspectives and rich knowledge of people of color do not affect the practice of medicine in a proportionate manner and lead to the creativity and change required to improve patient care.

Proposal Topic: why there is a need for ethnic dermatologist in cultural communities

  1. What is your rationale for addressing the problem you have chosen? What contribution will examining this problem make to you professionally as you enter the field? Make sure to utilize quantitative and qualitative data from scholarly sources to support your rationale.
  2. What resources will you require to complete your project? Consider, in particular, time required to conduct background research and acquire necessary source documents.
  3. To what extent was selection of this project topic and form based upon evidence from the scholarly literature? Please explain.
