Pediatric Clinical Pearl Case Study Assignment

Purpose

The purpose of the assignment is to guide students in identifying behaviors and interactions that commonly occur during the health history portion of a well-child exam. In doing so, students can develop strategies to improve anticipatory guidance and health education by using effective, non-biased, and non-judgmental communication.

Activity Learning Outcomes

Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

Synthesize information in which addresses child health promotion,  developmental surveillance, observation of parent-child interaction,  anticipatory guidance, social determinants of health, and/or cultural competence.

  1. As you view the video, observe the parent-child and the parent-provider interactions. Pay particular attention to the parent’s responses to the provider’s questions making note of inappropriate and appropriate responses.

  2. Choose five (5) topics from the following categories to complete the assignment:
    • Cognitive Developmental Milestones
    • Physical Developmental Milestones
    • Social-Emotional Developmental Milestones
    • Safety
    • Alcohol/Substance Use
    • Environmental Health Risks
    • Temper Tantrums and Discipline
    • Sleep Routines
    • Car Seat Safety
    • Healthy Teeth
  3. You will develop and complete a table for each one of the five (5)  categories using the example below as a guide. (Note: There are at least  10 categories addressed in the video, you must choose five (5) and create a separate table for each one).
  4. For each of the tables, complete each section:
    1. Issue: Category name
    2. Negative interaction/behavior: What did you see or hear that was inappropriate?
    3. Positive interaction/behavior: What did you see that was appropriate?
    4. Guidelines/recommendation: What does the research recommend?
    5. Scholarly reference: Must be in APA format within the table.
    6. Professional/Ethical Communication: How will provide non-judgmental and non-bias education regarding the issue identified? Needs to be at least 3 sentences. Helpful Hints: Acknowledge how they feel, state the facts, and provide education or re-frame the approach.
  5. Scholarly references should be peer-reviewed, preferably a Clinical  Practice Guideline (CPG), intended for providers (MDs, NPs) and no more than 5 years old (unless it is a clinical practice guideline’s most recent update).

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion…

A comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state/region with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.

Training Session for Policy Implementation (Ass 4) (1*)

  • Develop a 2–5-page training strategies summary and annotated agenda for a training session that will prepare a role group to succeed in implementing your proposed organizational policy and practice guidelines.
Training and educating those within an organization who are responsible for implementing and working with changes in organizational policy is a critical step in ensuring that prescribed changes have their intended benefit. A leader in a health care profession must be able to apply effective leadership, management, and educational strategies to ensure that colleagues and subordinates will be prepared to do the work that is asked of them.
  • As a master’s-level health care practitioner, you may be asked to design training sessions to help ensure the smooth implementation of any number of initiatives in your health care setting. The ability to create an agenda that will ensure your training goals will be met, and will fit into the allotted time, is a valuable skill for preparing colleagues to be successful in their practice.

  • Note: Remember that you can submit all, or a portion of, your draft strategy summary and annotated training agenda to Smarthinking for feedback, before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.
To help ensure a smooth roll out and implementation of your proposed policy and practice guidelines, design a training session for one of the role groups in the organization that will be responsible for implementation.

    • Write a brief summary of your strategies for working with your chosen role group.
    • Explain how this training session will help prepare the group to succeed in implementing your proposed policy and practice guidelines, and why you chose this group to pilot your proposal.
    • Prepare an annotated agenda for a two-hour training session.
    • During this training session, you will want to ensure that the individuals you are training understand the new policy and practice guidelines. You will need them to buy into the importance of the policy in improving the quality of care or outcomes and their key role in successful policy implementation. You must help them acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in implementing the policy and practice guidelines.
As outcomes of this training session, participants are expected to:
    • Understand the organizational policy and practice guidelines to be implemented.
    • Understand the importance of the policy to improving quality or outcomes.
    • Understand that, as a group, they are key to successful implementation.
    • Possess the necessary knowledge and skills for successful implementation.
    • Requirements
The strategy summary and annotated training agenda requirements outlined below correspond to the scoring guide criteria, so be sure to address each main point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. In addition, be sure to note the requirements for document format and length and for supporting evidence.
    • Summarize evidence-based strategies for working with the role group to obtain their buy-in and prepare them to implement the new policy and apply the associated practice guidelines to their work.
      • Why will these strategies be effective?
      • What measures might provide early indications of success?
    • Explain the impact of the new policy and practice guidelines.
      • How they will be implemented?
      • How will they affect the daily work routines and responsibilities of the role group?

      • How will the policy and guidelines help improve the quality of care or outcomes?
    • Explain the role group’s importance in implementing the new policy and practice guidelines.
      • Why is the work and buy-in of the role group important for successful implementation?
      • How could you help the group feel empowered by their involvement during implementation?
    • Determine appropriate and effective instructional content, learning activities, and materials for the training session.
      • How will each proposed activity on your agenda support learning and skill development?
      • Can you complete the training within the allotted two hours?
    • Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions.
      • Proofread your strategy summary and training agenda, before you submit it, to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it more difficult for them to focus on the substance of your strategies.
    • Support main points, assertions, arguments, conclusions, or recommendations with relevant and credible evidence.
      • Be sure to apply correct APA formatting to source citations and references.

Politics and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

Regardless of political affiliation, individuals often grow concerned when considering perceived competing interests of government and their impact on topics of interest to them. The realm of healthcare is no different. Some people feel that local, state, and federal policies and legislation can be either helped or hindered by interests other than the benefit to society.

Consider for example that the number one job of a legislator is to be reelected. Cost can be measured in votes as well as dollars. Thus, it is important to consider the legislator’s perspective on either promoting or not promoting a certain initiative in the political landscape.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on efforts to repeal/replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
  • Consider who benefits the most when policy is developed and in the context of policy implementation.

Post an explanation for how you think the cost-benefit analysis in terms of legislators being reelected affected efforts to repeal/replace the ACA. Then, explain how analyses of the voters views may affect decisions by legislative leaders in recommending or positioning national policies (e.g., Congress’ decisions impacting Medicare or Medicaid). Remember, the number one job of a legislator is to be re-elected. Please check your discussion grading rubric to ensure your responses meet the criteria.

Use resources within the past 5 years. (at least 3 refences).

Article analysis by 10/16 /2020 at 6:00 pm please add references

The interpretation of research in health care is essential to decision making. By understanding research, health care providers can identify risk factors, trends, outcomes for treatment, health care costs and best practices. To be effective in evaluating and interpreting research, the reader must first understand how to interpret the findings. You will practice article analysis in Topics 2, 3, and 5.

For this assignment:

Search the GCU Library and find three different health care articles that use quantitative research. Do not use articles that appear in the Topic Materials or textbook. Complete an article analysis for each using the “Article Analysis 1” template.

Refer to the “Patient Preference and Satisfaction in Hospital-at-Home and Usual Hospital Care for COPD Exacerbations: Results of a Randomised Controlled Trial,” in conjunction with the “Article Analysis Example 1,” for an example of an article analysis.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

presentation on an adolescent who is anxious, depressed and withdrawn and also has problems with coping with online learning. I agree with your approach and I would like to add that cognitive therapy can be added. Treatment approaches for adolescent depression include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and family system approaches (Sander & McCarty, 2005). There are two specific types of family systems approaches that have specifically been evaluated with depressed adolescents. One is systemic-behavioral family therapy (SBFT), and the other is the attachment-based family therapy (Sander & McCarty, 2005). SBFT includes skill-building in communication, incorporating reinforcement, and distinct aspects of cognitive restructuring (Sander & McCarty, 2005). Attachment-based family therapy incorporates family systems and attachment theory in a manualized treatment for depression in youth, based on the premise that a “negative family environment” inhibits children from developing the internal and interpersonal coping skills needed to buffer against the family, social, and community stressors that can cause or exacerbate depression (Sander & McCarty, 2005).

Gastritis

A 50-year-old man has been suffering from substernal pain for the last 5 months, particularly on waking up in the morning. He lost his job a year ago and was suffering from depression. He consumes about 12–16 cans of beer every day. He has lost his appetite too and says that eating aggravates pain.

  • Is this acute or chronic gastritis?
  • What factors may lead to the development of gastritis?
  • What investigation should be performed?
  • How can the patient be treated?

By the due date assigned, submit your initial response(s) to the above questions to the Discussion Area. Your responses should clarify your understanding of the topic. They should be your own, original and free from plagiarism. Use correct medical terminology, spelling, and grammar.
