XUMUC

XUMUC has WAN links in place to the new locations in the Houston Region. XUMUC currently has 2 other Regions San Francisco and Denver. Originally, XUMUC was only in one region (San Francisco). The previous consultant did a poor job with the integration resulting in a poor IP address scheme as a result routing tables at the summarization points and at the San Francisco Campus are very large. In addition, no VLAN structure was developed to isolate broadcast traffic. There are 4 main departments in XUMC: sales, finance, human resources, and research and development. Also, there has been some concern that the WAN transport was not able to accommodate the network traffic. Finally, all addresses in the network are statically assigned resulting in high administration overhead when changes are needed XUMUC would like this changed to lower administrative overhead.
Location Number of IP Addresses Required
San Francisco 1290
Denver Region
Denver Campus 441
Remote Office 1 28
Remote Office 2 35

SCIE 301: Research Design and Statistical Analysis

Winter 2021, Assignment 1

.

This is an open-book assignment, both calculators and statistical software such as R can be used.

If you are using software to assist, please include the code, output and your own conclusions

based on your interpretations of the output.

For numerical answers, please round up the results to keep three decimal digits when needed.

The data-bmi.csv” le contains data on individual characteristics including gender, age, height and

weight on a group of individuals. The variables and the corresponding scales or measurements in the

dataset are as follows

ID: the identi cation number for an individual;

gender: either of the two sexes (male and female) of an individual

age: age of an individual in years

height: height of an individual in centimeters

weight: weight of an individual in pounds

Please answer the following questions based on this dataset.

1.(2 points) Please import the csv le into R and create a data frame. Please state the dimension

of the data in terms of the number of rows (individuals) and number of columns (variables).

2.(4 points) Please calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI) in the unit of kg=m

for all subjects,

report the ve number summary along with the variance and standard deviation.

2

3.(5 points) Please report on the frequency and percentage of missing data of all variables including

newly created variable BMI, obtain a subset that contains individuals with complete information

on all variables and state the size of this subset.

4.The following questions are based on the subset of complete cases obtained in previous question.

(a)(6 points) Please classify the individuals into groups indicating the weight statuses using

the following criterion

1

underweight (BMI is less than 18.50)

normal weight (BMI is between 18.50 and 25.00, including 18.50 and excluding 25.00)

overweight (BMI is between 25.00 and 30.00, including 25.00 and excluding 30.00)

obesity, excluding extreme obesity (BMI is between 30.00 and 40.00, including 30.00

and excluding 40.00)

extreme obesity (BMI is greater or equal to 40.00).

Please also summarize the distribution of weight status using numbers or tables.

(b)(8 points) Please display summary information of the weight status among all subjects

including frequencies and relative frequencies (in percentage) using two types of graphs

(bar plot and pie chart).

Please be considerate to your audience and make your graphs as informative and concise

as possible by using legend, labeling axes, displaying numbers and so on. Please sort the

layout based on the frequency or relative frequency in either ascending or descending order

to enhance readability.

(c)(4 points) Please create a histogram of age in this subset and thoroughly elaborate your

ndings about the distribution of the age based on the histogram created (for example,

you should comment on the shape such as centers (three central tendencies), skewness,

existence of outliers, spread and so on).

(d)(12 points) Please create side-by-side boxplots for the heights of the individuals in di erent

gender groups and comment on whether you are able to judge whether the two gender

groups di er in terms of the distribution of the height. Please be sure to provide foundation

of your comments. Use the 1:5IQR rule (remember to show your steps) to identify the

individuals whose heights are outliers in each gender group.

Data Science & Big Data Analy

The Final Portfolio Project is a comprehensive assessment of what you have learned during this course. (Data Science & Big Data Analy)

The Final Project has two parts: Limitations of Blockchain and Emerging Concepts. Blockchain continues to be deployed into various businesses and industries. However, Blockchain is not without its problems.  Several challenges have already been associated with the use of this technology.  Identify at least 5 key challenges to Blockchain. Additionally, discuss potential solutions to these challenges. Lastly, please discuss if we will see the limitations to blockchain be reduced or mitigated in the future.  There are several emerging concepts that are using Big Data and Blockchain Technology.

Please search the internet and highlight 5 emerging concepts that are exploring the use of Blockchain and Big Data and how they are being used.Conclude your paper with a detailed conclusion section which discusses both limitations and emerging concepts. The paper needs to be approximately 6 pages long, including both a title page and a references page (for a total ). Be sure to use proper APA formatting and citations to avoid plagiarism.Your paper should meet the following requirements:

6 pages exclude title and references

  • Follow APA7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.
  • Support your answers with the readings from the course, the course textbook, and at least ten scholarly journal articles to support your positions, claims, and observations, in addition to your textbook. The UC Library is a great place to find supplemental resources.
  • Be clearly and well-written, concise, and logical, using excellent grammar and style techniques. You are being graded in part on the quality of your writing

fundemental of data systems

Each group has been assigned either a vendor who produces several database platforms or a class of database platforms. For this assignment, you are going to do a detailed technical and business evaluation of the assigned vendor and/or a database class.

  • Group 1- Microsoft Databases (Access, SQL Server, Azure SQL DB etc.)
  • Group 2 – IBM Databases (IBM DB2, Informix, Netezza etc)
  • Group 3 – Amazon Databases (Aurora, RDS, Redshift, etc)
  • Group 4 – Open Source DBS (MySQL, PostgresDB, MariaDB, SQLite etc)
  • Group 5 – GPU Databases (Kinetica, SQream, BlazingDB, Omnisci etc)
  • Group 6-  Graph Databases (Neo4j, Neptune, NoSQL, Cayley, Titan, Teradata Aster etc)
  • Group 7 – Google Databases (Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner)
  • Group 8 – Oracle Databases (Oracle & Sun-Owned)

Each group must answer the following questions in the form of a 15-20 page. Pretend you are trying to sell the CEO of a company on why they should move their database to the assigned platform when making presentation. Make the presentation clear, concise, and don’t get into the weeds too much. Simply answer the questions in your words. You must cite everything you write. Following APA is a strict requirement.   Each group will be required to create a POWERPOINT PRESENTATION (not a Research Paper)QUESTIONS

  1. What are the key database products made by the vendor OR the key database platforms available under the database category (pick at least three for this presentation)
  2. If a vendor, who are the competitors to the platform? If a database technology class, who is the clear leader and why?
  3. What industries are these database vendor tools or database technology platforms used in? Is the market increasing or decreasing for technology?
  4. What are the key features for each of these database platforms? What are differentiators compared to other database platforms in its like-kind class?
  5. Are these databases used on-premise only? Cloud-based only? Mainframe only? Explain the infrastructure use case for each of these databases that you are discussing.
  6. Provide three (3) business uses for why a customer/client would want to use your vendors/class of database technology in their environment.
  7. What are key technical skills a data administrator or database administrator would require if they use this platform?
  8. Where do you believe this technology will be in 3-5 years?

  • Graphics are essential. A minimum of 8-10 graphics should be included that are meaningful. Custom graphics/tables are preferred!
  • If you put figures or tables in your slides, you have to make your own tables and figures. Please don’t copy and paste it from the reference.

Sochi Olympics—What’s the Cost of National Prestige? The Sochi Olympics was an example of project costs running out of control; so much so that the final price tag (estimated to be more than $50 billion), dwarfed the costs of every other Olympic Games to this point in time.  In addition to picking a questionable, sub-tropical location for the Games, from the very beginning, the process of developing the site was subject to meddling from politicians, including President Vladimir Putin. Another major cost to the final price tag was related to charges of wide-spread corruption, as sub-projects for the Games (such as infrastructure, buildings, and roads) ended up with highly inflated price tags.   This is a great case for general class discussion as we consider the purpose for Olympic Games, the challenges of cost control with critical deadlines that must be adhered to, and the fact that costs are rising for Games to the point where in 2017, Rome, Budapest, and several other cities withdrew their bids to host the 2024 Olympics because they could not trust the final costs and could not justify the value they would gain versus the costs of the project.Questions

  1. Consider the following statement: “Government-funded projects intended to serve as ‘prestige projects,’ such as the Sochi Olympics, should not be judged on the basis of cost.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?
  2. Project success is defined as adherence to budget, schedule, functionality (performance), and client satisfaction.  Under these criteria, cite evidence that suggests the Sochi Olympics project was a success and/or failure.
  3. When a project has a “hard gate,” like being ready on time, how does that affect normal success criteria?  Is it fair to judge a project with a critical completion date by normal project success standards?  Why or why not?
  4. Consider the problems with the Rio Olympics sites that quickly occurred following completion of the 2016 Summer Games.  Access the internet to find evidence of the current state of the Sochi Olympic site.  How is it being used and what are the current problems and opportunities for Sochi?
