In this Blog, you will have the opportunity to teach your peers about a specific substance use and/or addiction/impulse control disorder. A Blog is a conversational, informal written piece on a topic. Your faculty will assign you a particular illness and the approved treatment for the illness to create a presentation to share with your peers.

Construct a Blog post, not to exceed 1,500–2,000 words, written for a PMHNP provider audience to post in the Discussion area.

Although you are not required to respond to colleagues, collegial discussion is welcome. Also, it will be important for you to read your peers’ Blog posts in order to learn about all of the medications on the assigned list.

illness and the approved treatment for the illness –

  • Alcohol Use Disorder
    • Acamprosate
    • Naltrexone
    • Disulfiram
    • Phenobarbital (seizure control due to alcohol withdrawal)
    • Chlordiazepoxide

Post your Blog response by doing the following:

  • Identify the substance or addiction with discussion on pertinent diagnostic criteria for the use disorder.
  • Identify the street names of the substance for the use disorder.
  • Describe how someone can use or abuse the substance (oral, smoke, IV, etc.).
  • Describe the symptoms of someone under the influence of this substance.
  • Describe the symptoms of someone under the withdrawal of this substance.

After describing the substance, discuss the treatment recommendations by doing the following:

  • Identify the first-line treatment options.
  • Identify the FDA-approved medications for the substance.

Note: If there are no FDA-approved medications, describe any evidenced-based, clinically acceptable off-label medications to treat the illness.

  • Identify the proposed mechanisms of action for the medication to treat the illness.
  • Describe the common side effects of the medication.
  • Describe how the patient should take the medication.
  • Identify any baseline and/or ongoing tests and assessment(s) needed when taking the medication.
  • Describe the non-pharmacologic intervention recommendations.

This Assignment requires a minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed, evidence-based scholarly references outside of course Learning Resources.

Note: You will need to include the APA formatting citation of all references used with a Reference list.

Benchmark – Capstone Project Change Proposal Dissemination and Reflection

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on the dissemination of the Capstone Project Change Proposal PowerPoint developed in Topic 9 and presented this week.

Week 3 – Discussion “I would like to learn more about…..”

This week’s discussion is all about practicing APA format. There are two parts to this discussion. And be sure to respond to at least one other posting by end of Day 7.

Post 1: Go to the Galen Library and Resources and search a topic of interest.

  • Find an article on your topic of interest
  • In your initial post, share your topic and article. Write a brief summary of the article (3-5 sentences). Apply in-text citations (Last Name, Year) in your summary
  • Write the reference to this article in APA format. Be sure to use some of the resources in this week’s module and in our library to help you with APA formatting. This https://galen.libguides.com/c.php?g=1288640&p=9463367 will take you directly to APA Citation Home Page in our Galen Library. Or you can click on Writing Support from the library’s home page.

Post 2: Answer one of the following questions.

  • What challenges do you face when using APA formatting?
  • How do you ensure that your citations and references are accurate?

Controversy Associated With Dissociative Disorders

  • Explain the controversy that surrounds dissociative disorders.
  • Explain your professional beliefs about dissociative disorders, supporting your rationale with at least three scholarly references from the literature.
  • Explain strategies for maintaining the therapeutic relationship with a client that may present with a dissociative disorder.
  • Finally, explain ethical and legal considerations related to dissociative disorders that you need to bring to your practice and why they are important.

Reading a Research Article: High-dose vitamin D substitution in patients with COVID-19: study protocol for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center study—VitCov Trial

1.  Find the Research Problem/Hypotheses: Often authors will refer to the purpose of the study.  This is often articulated in the abstract, introduction, or background.

2.  Find the purpose statement?

3.  Find the study design?

4.  Identify the participants. How were these chosen?

5.  Identify the control group.

6.  Identify the intervention?

7.  outcomes (what was measured).

8.  What were the results?

9.  Where are the hypotheses rejected or accepted?

10. Limitations.

– This analysis will be performed in a research study, you may copy and paste the responses.

Long-term cognitive, psychological, and physical impairments linked to intensive care treatment over time are referred to as the symptom complex of post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). About 60 percent of survivors are impacted (Beutel et al., 2025). The research design for this article is a qualitative, semi-structured interview study conducted by performing in-depth interviews to learn more about their experiences with psychological stress after intensive care unit treatment. Participants were selected from the intervention group of the PICTURE trial. There was a total of 10 participants in this study, patients who ranged in age from 18 to 85 years of age who had spent two years in critical care with mechanical ventilation and severe organ failure. Two of the 10 individuals invited for the interview had to be turned down (one because of time limits and one because of a lack of collaboration). I believe the sample size of this study was perfect because they could focus on the in-depth interviews with each of them. The research methods do fit the purpose of the study because the PICTURE project is a multicenter study financed by the DFG that was carried out between 2017 and 2024. By including general practitioners, this study seeks to enhance the care environment for patients who have post-ICU PTSD. In three 45-minute sessions, general practitioners (GPs) provide a brief trauma-focused intervention based on Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) to patients who meet the inclusion criteria for mild to moderate stress. The data collection and analysis were appropriate because a balanced distribution of gender, age, educational background, dwelling size, and admission diagnosis served as the basis for the selection. The planned three NET sessions had already been sent to each respondent. Digital recordings of semi-structured guided telephone interviews were made. A protocol was developed for every interview. Deductive reasoning was used to build the interview guide. The study’s findings about the relationship between the severity of memories of the intensive care unit stay and the development of mental health served as the foundation for the theoretical framework. Yes, the phenomenon was identified when the results were revealed. A brief, easily accessible psychological intervention in the primary care setting is extremely valuable because patients who have been in an intensive care unit (ICU) frequently experience significant psychological stress due to the traumatic nature of their stay, including feelings of helplessness, pain, inability to communicate, sleep disturbances, and confusion, which can last even after discharge. As a critical care nurse, I believe this study’s results can help nurses be more vigilant about the patients’ feelings after discharge, and hospitals should offer therapy.

Perceptions on the Implementation of a School Nurse

The study implemented qualitative descriptive research to examine what stakeholders thought about establishing a school nursing pilot program in the Canary Islands. This research design allowed researchers to collect diverse input and firsthand accounts about the program’s implementation. The study participants came from groups of school nurses, teachers, parents, and students who joined the pilot program. This qualitative research needed 25 participants who helped reach data saturation and yielded valuable and detailed insights. The research focused on groups and semi-structured interviews to study how program stakeholders think and feel about their implementation experience. It gathered information from interviews from focus groups and used thematic analysis to process the data. This method helps researchers find patterns and themes in qualitative data while providing a structured way to understand how study participants think and feel. The study focused on understanding how various school members evaluated and felt about this nursing initiative. The research showed how the program affected student health while uncovering implementation difficulties and why stakeholder cooperation matters. Research findings demonstrate that stakeholders think the program makes students healthier and improves their wellbeing. The research found both benefits and struggles from stakeholders’ viewpoints including resource constraints and ineffective team communication. The research team highlighted the need to maintain consistent support and learning opportunities for school nurses. School nursing programs prove effective at boosting student health if stakeholders provide sufficient support. These conclusions can be used to launch additional programs which can fix challenges in resource distribution and working relationships among partners.
