HR

In the 1990’s, the Financial Industry was known for its discrimination against women (and minorities).  In the 21st Century, tech companies are facing similar challenges.  As an example, a post-employment post by a former female employee at Uber, Susan Fowler, set of a firestorm of other allegations against Uber and other tech companies.  Read this infamous post and tell us what HR seems to have done wrong and what it should have done to respond to these allegations and partner with leadership to address the underlying issues.

Here’s Susan’s Blog Post:  https://www.susanjfowler.com/blog/2017/2/19/reflecting-on-one-very-strange-year-at-uber

Healthcare faces critical staffing shortages. Imagine you are part of the executive management team researching health care shortages.

  • Outline some of the staffing shortages in the market where you live.  Are they consistent with national trends?
  • Design a strategy that describes how your organization would alleviate some staffing shortages, including whether you would hire licensed practical nurses instead of registered nurses. Include concepts from readings throughout your program or from peer-reviewed journal articles.

Making Decisions

500 words with credible references.

How would you handle a situation that teetered on the edge of unethical, but was not against company policy?

For example, there is no clear rule in your employee handbook forbidding romantic relationships. However, the receptionist, Alyssa, has begun dating a salesperson, Connor. The receptionist will occasionally receive cold calls from potential clients. There is an assumption on the sales team that Connor may be getting routed these cold calls due to his relationship with Alyssa.

  1. Should the company’s treatment of the grievant for the first two “sleeping on the job” incidents influence the outcome in this case? Explain.
  2. Did the Company have just cause to dismiss the grievant for violating safety rules when in each instance cited, the truck was out of gear with the safety brake on?
  3. Is the union’s argument that the grievant just appeared to be “sleeping” creditable in the absence of any testimony of support by the backhoe driver, a fellow union member?

Your response should be a minimum of 150 words per question. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations, and cited per APA guidelines.
