Assignment

It is common for social workers to be presented with a crisis situation brought forth by clients, families, communities, and/or organizations. The ultimate goal is to restore the client to equilibrium. The five stages of the crisis are (1) the hazardous event, (2) the vulnerable stage, (3) the precipitating factor, (4) the state of active crisis, and (5) the reintegration or crisis resolution phase.

There are times when a social worker will use more than one theory to assist in conceptualizing the problem and intervention, particularly if the theories complement each other. For example, resiliency theory can be used alongside crisis theory.

To prepare: Review and focus on the same case study that you chose in Week 2.

Submit a 1- to 2-page case write-up that addresses the following:

  • Map the client’s crisis using the five stages of the crisis.
  • Describe the client’s assets and resources (in order to understand the client’s resilience).
  • Describe how you, the social worker, will intervene to assist the client to reach the reintegration stage of the crisis. Be sure that the intervention promotes resiliency.
  • Evaluate how using crisis theory and resiliency theory together help in working with a client.

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you have chosen.
  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
    • Remember to double-space your paper.

Throughout history, community leaders deemed it necessary to determine core principles, rules, and values to ensure the existence of a productive and healthy community. These principles, rules, and values serve as the foundation for establishing and maintaining societies that support the mental health and welfare of their members. Your values give rise to passion around issues that you believe need changing and that motivate you to take action. By upholding these values, you can contribute to a society that supports its members.

To prepare:

  • Select a societal issue from anywhere in the world about which you are passionate. If you selected a societal issue for your Capstone Project, select a different one to use for this Discussion. If you selected a profession-related issue for the Capstone Project, you should select a societal issue for this Discussion.
  • Think about your personal values that make this issue important to you and how upholding these values might contribute to society.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 4

Post a brief description of the societal issue you selected. Then, explain the values that give rise to your passion for this issue. Explain how upholding these values might contribute to creating a society that supports the mental health and welfare of its members, remembering the broad conceptualization of mental health and human rights. Finally, explain how you might work with individuals from a different profession to address the issue.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Problem Statement and Background

Problem Statement: 1 Page
All research should begin with a problem statement. You want to describe the thing you’re about to study. This should be an observation of some phenomena that exists in the world. It should lead logically to a research question. Describe the event or observations that are the driver of this particular bit of research. You’ll want to identify the purpose of this research. For our purposes, we are doing applied research. That is, we want to solve some problem in the world. What is the problem you want to solve?

Background Information: 4 Pages
Once the problem is identified, you will need to gather background information about it. You will do this by conducting a Literature Review. In the field of Public Administration, the types of literature, and the background you are gathering are slightly different from basic social science research. That is: the salient or relevant information you are looking for is going to be different. Your background should address the following key questions.

  • What are the contributing factors or causes of the problem?
  • Who is impacted by the problem and how are they impacted?
  • Who is responsible for addressing the problem? This is usually some level or branch of government.
  • What policies exist presently that have either positive or negative impacts on the problem?
  • How are those policies funded? Where does the money come from? How much is involved?
  • What barriers are there to addressing this problem?

LP10.1 Assignment: Organizational Quality Statement

HA3110D – Quality Improvement and Risk Management

 LP10.1 Assignment: Organizational Quality Statement

For this assignment, consider the organization you now work in, or if you are not currently employed, consider your last employer.

Directions

Compare the culture of your current employer (or last employer, if not currently employed) to Demings’s Quality Principles:

.Help people do a better job.

.Drive out fear.

.Break down barriers.

.Restore pride of workmanship.

.Make quality everyone’s job.

Does this employer lead by example? Encourage open dialogue? Does management seek views and ideas? Does everyone have clear expectations for their expected level of performance? Do leaders provide reward and recognition for a job well done?

With that in mind, answer these questions:

1.If there was no bonus at stake, or if everyone got the same bonus for achieving collective goals, would your work deteriorate? Why or why not?

2.If other people on your team were to get 100 percent of the bonus but you didn’t, would you feel motivated or de-motivated? Inspired to excel or depressed? Rewarded or punished? Be specific. Explain thoroughly.

Employee

  1. Describe an effective strategy for negotiating salary with a prospective hire.
  2. What are the key elements of a legally enforceable job offer?
  3. How does onboarding improve employee performance and workforce retention?

Intercultural Communication Paper

 It consists of two parts:

Part 1:

Complete the INCA survey and develop a one-page reflection summarizing your ideas.
Part 2:

Select 3 critical incidents and analyze them. Frame your analyses of each incident using the dimensions from the INCA survey. Your analysis should contain at least three scholarly references that pertain directly to the incident. Your analysis should be complete and supported by the literature not an opinion.

Complete both parts in a formal written paper using APA format. Use headings to mark each part: Part 1 and Part 2. Use subheadings to indicate the discussion of each critical incident. Please review the requirements for all written assignments on page 3 of the syllabus. You should also review the course rubric for a breakdown of the assignment scoring.

Include a chart or graph to support your written analysis. Just be sure to explain the information presented in the chart or graph.

INCA is an acronym for Intercultural Competency Assessment. The purpose of the INCA survey is for you to examine your intercultural awareness and assess your cultural sensitivity. This activity is designed to help you become aware of your own attitude towards cultural diversity. The dimensions of cultural competence measured by the INCA survey are:1) Tolerance of ambiguity, 2) Behavioral flexibility, 3) Communicative awareness, 4) Knowledge discovery, 5) Respect for Otherness, and 6) Empathy.

NOTE: This project and the instrument created was funded by the Council of Europe and the Leonardo da Vinci II Program.  You can read more about this project, if you are interested, here:

Directions: Complete all of the INCA Survey questions. When you are done, use the INCA survey student manual to help you analyze your results. Read about the different dimensions of intercultural competency and what they mean.
