Select your final project topic. It must be unique. It should be a high level topic related to this course. Pick a topic that you will learn something from or that will be useful in your work. It must be specific not generic. Your final project will consist of a 12 minutes, 12 slide powerpoint presentation that you will present at residency and a 1 page single spaced summary and an annotated reference list as described below all of which will be submitted in Week 15.

You must also respond to two of your peers’ proposals. Help them make a better, more focused, and more interesting presentation.

Defend your choice of topic in 500 words or more. Include at least 3 expert supporting quotes surrounded by quotation marks and cited in-line. Provide an annotated reference list at the end. Research paper 7

This week’s written activity is a three- part activity. You will respond to three separate prompts but prepare the paper as one research paper. Be sure to include at least one library source per prompt, in addition to your textbook (which means you’ll have at least 4 sources cited).

1) Start your paper with an introductory paragraph.

2) Prompt 1 “Data Warehouse Architecture” (2-3 pages): Explain the major components of a data warehouse architecture, including the various forms of data transformations needed to prepare data for a data warehouse. Also, describe in your own words current key trends in data warehousing.

3) Prompt 2 “Big Data” (2-3 pages): Describe your understanding of big data and give an example of how you’ve seen big data used either personally or professionally. In your view, what demands is big data placing on organizations and data management technology?

4) Prompt 3 “Green Computing” (2-3 pages):  One of our topics in Chapter 13 surrounds IT Green Computing. The need for green computing is becoming more obvious considering the amount of power needed to drive our computers, servers, routers, switches, and data centers. Discuss ways in which organizations can make their data centers “green”. In your discussion, find an example of an organization that has already implemented IT green computing strategies successfully. Discuss that organization and share your link. You can find examples in the UC Library.

5) Conclude your paper with a detailed conclusion section.

The paper needs to be approximately 7-10 pages long, including both a title page and a references page (for a total of 9-12 pages). Be sure to use proper APA formatting and citations to avoid plagiarism.

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

• Be approximately seven to ten pages in length, not including the required cover page and reference page.

• Follow APA7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.

• Support your answers with the readings from the course, the course textbook, and at least three scholarly journal articles to support your positions, claims, and observations, in addition to your textbook. The UC Library is a great place to find supplemental resources.

• Be clearly and well-written, concise, and logical, using excellent grammar and style techniques. You are being graded in part on the quality of your writing.

NO plagiarism at any cost.

Master Budget:

You have just been hired as a new management trainee by Earrings Unlimited, a distributor of earrings to various retail outlets located in shopping malls across the country. In the past, the company has done very little in the way of budgeting and at certain times of the year has experienced a shortage of cash. Since you are well trained in budgeting, you have decided to prepare a master budget for the upcoming second quarter. To this end, you have worked with accounting and other areas to gather the information assembled below.

The company sells many styles of earrings, but all are sold for the same price—$13 per pair. Actual sales of earrings for the last three months and budgeted sales for the next six months follow (in pairs of earrings):

January (actual)           20,600                                June (budget)                    50,600

February (actual)         26,600                                July (budget)                      30,600

March (actual)             40,600                                 August (budget)                 28,600

April (budget)               65,600                                September (budget)           25,600

May (budget)             100,600

The concentration of sales before and during May is due to Mother’s Day. Sufficient inventory should be on hand at the end of each month to supply 40% of the earrings sold in the following month.

Suppliers are paid $4.30 for a pair of earrings. One-half of a month’s purchases is paid for in the month of purchase; the other half is paid for in the following month. All sales are on credit. Only 20% of a month’s sales are collected in the month of sale. An additional 70% is collected in the following month, and the remaining 10% is collected in the second month following sale. Bad debts have been negligible.

Monthly operating expenses for the company are given below:

Variable:

Sales commissions            4% of sales

Fixed:

Advertising                         $ 230,000

Rent                                   $   21,000

Salaries                              $ 112,000

Utilities                               $     8,500

Insurance                           $     3,300

Depreciation                       $   17,000

Insurance is paid on an annual basis, in November of each year.

The company plans to purchase $17,500 in new equipment during May and $43,000 in new equipment during June; both purchases will be for cash. The company declares dividends of $17,250 each quarter, payable in the first month of the following quarter.

The company’s balance sheet as of March 31 is given below:

Assets:

Cash                                                                                                                   $    77,000

                                                                                                                               ———————-

Total liabilities and stockholders’ equity                                                                   $ 1,649,152

                                                                                                                              ————————

The company maintains a minimum cash balance of $53,000. All borrowing is done at the beginning of a month; any repayments are made at the end of a month.

The company has an agreement with a bank that allows the company to borrow in increments of $1,000 at the beginning of each month. The interest rate on these loans is 1% per month and for simplicity we will assume that interest is not compounded. At the end of the quarter, the company would pay the bank all of the accumulated interest on the loan and as much of the loan as possible (in increments of $1,000), while still retaining at least $53,000 in cash.
