Week 8 Written Assignment

• Each assignment will be an essay written in APA format (see below). Each essay should be no less than 1500 words on the topic (s) noted below.
• The title page and bibliography do not count towards the word count.
• Complete the assignment in a Word document using APA formatting with your last name as part of the file name. Omit the abstract and outline. A Word APA template and APA sample paper are provided for reference
• After completing the essay, save and upload the document in the Assignments section of the e-classroom.

Topic: After conducting independent research using at least three sources not used in the class write an essay that forecasts future impact of the Internet as its role in society continues to evolve. You should point out new issues if you foresee them.

WEEK 3 DISCUSSION
WELCOME to the discussion for WEEK 3. Please respond in complete sentences for each question, unless directed to do otherwise, demonstrating in your reply that you have read the material in order to receive full credit. Please note that participating in this discussion counts toward your class participation grade.

DISCUSSION
This week, we will discuss Week 3’s reading assignments. Our discussion will focus on how we manage tables, lists, and references in MS Word.  When you need to present facts and figures in a document, using columns or tables is often more efficient than describing the data in a paragraph, particularly when the data consists of numeric values. Microsoft Word has a simple built-in reference function at the References tab. Here you can manually enter references and refer to them in the text and create a bibliography.

This week’s journal articles focus on empowering leadership and effective collaboration in geographically dispersed teams, please answer the following questions:

1. How do geographically dispersed teams collaborate effectively?
2. Please find at least three tools on the market that teams can use to collaborate on a geographically dispersed team.  Please note the pros and cons of each tool. 
3. Based on the research above, note which tool you would select if you were managing the geographically dispersed team and why.

Be sure to use the UC Library for scholarly research. Google Scholar is also a great source for research.  Please be sure that journal articles are peer-reviewed and are published within the last five years.

The paper should meet the following requirements:

• 3-5 pages in length (not including title page or references)
• APA guidelines must be followed.  The paper must include a cover page, an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.
• A minimum of five peer-reviewed journal articles.

The writing should be clear and concise.  Headings should be used to transition thoughts.  Don’t forget that the grade also includes the quality of writing.

2) Choose any two questions  Discussions Initial post (goal: by Weds) + 2 responses (100-300 words). 

 Discussion #1: What is an artificial neural network and for what types of problems can it be used? Discussion #2: Compare artificial and biological neural networks. What aspects of biological networks are not mimicked by artificial ones? What aspects are similar?

 Discussion #3: What are the most common ANN architectures? For what types of problems can they be used?

 Discussion #4: ANN can be used for both supervised and unsupervised learning. Explain how they learn in a supervised mode and in an unsupervised mode. 

 Complete a Physical Security Assessment (internal and external) of your  place of work or living area.  If you use your work area make sure you  inform the Security Manager to get permission as to what you are doing.  If you live in a gated community inform the security guard of your  activities. Refer to your text on the importance of Lighting and Access  Control and be sure to cover the salient issues discussed in the text.

FORENSIC DESIGN ASSESSMENTS

This task relates to a sequence of assessments that will be repeated across Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Select any example of a visualisation or infographic, maybe your own work or that of others. The task is to undertake a deep, detailed ‘forensic’ like assessment of the design choices made across each of the five layers of the chosen visualisation’s anatomy. In each case your assessment is only concerned with one design layer at a time.

For this task, take a close look at the composition choices:

1. Start by identifying all the applications of colour deployed, listing them under the headers of 1) project composition, and 2) chart composition
2. How suitable are the choices and deployment of these composition properties? If they are not, what do you think they should have been?
3. Go through the set of ‘Influencing factors’ from the latter section of the book’s chapter to help shape your assessment and to possibly inform how you might tackle this design layer differently
4. Also, considering the range of potential composition approaches, what would you do differently or additionally?

Many business environments have both visible and invisible physical security controls. You see them at the post office, at the corner store, and in certain areas of your own computing environment. They are so pervasive that some people choose where they live based on their presence, as in gated access communities or secure apartment complexes. Alison is a security analyst for a major technology corporation that specializes in data management. This company includes an in house security staff (guards, administrators, and so on) that is capable of handling physical security breaches. Brad experienced an intrusion—into his personal vehicle in the company parking lot. He asks Alison whether she observed or recorded anyone breaking into and entering his vehicle, but this is a personal item and not a company possession, and she has no control or regulation over damage to employee assets. This is understandably unnerving for Brad, but he understands that she’s protecting the business and not his belongings.
