Assignment 05: Forming Your Research Question or Thesis

 Once you’ve received approval for your research topic from your professor, you must decide what question you’ll try to answer, or what argument you’ll try to prove in the course of presenting your research. IT is also time to begin to research your topic and develop your reference list.

You must develop a research question or thesis that can be addressed effectively in a 4-page paper. This video from ProQuest Research Companion, “Thesis Statements as Debatable Claims,” gives more information about thesis statements (and the questions they answer).

As you develop your thesis statement or research question, consider:

.Do you have a “burning question” about this topic? What is it?

.Do you already have a strong opinion about this topic? Do you want to “take a stand”?

What to Submit for this Assignment

For this assignment, choose one of these purposes and expand on it in more detail in 5-7 sentences. If you have a question, describe it and speculate about how you will answer it. If you have a strong opinion, state clearly what it is, and why you believe it to be true.

Below your paragraph, include 2-3 credible sources that you are considering including in your paper. Cite them in APA style.

Provide a progress report of your oral presentation by addressing the following:

• What steps do you plan to take to transition your paper to a presentation?
• Which key ideas will you focus on?

 You did a nice job of articulating the different stages of Prochaska and DiClementi’s stages of change. Can you describe the Transtheoretical model and its application to Prochaska and DiClementi’s change theory?

Part One: Describe the signs, symptoms, and nursing interventions for older adults with: cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration detached retina, and corneal ulcers.

If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?

You would have a difficult time practicing as a nurse if you believed these to be true. But they are very real beliefs in some cultures.

Differences in cultural beliefs, subcultures, religion, ethnic customs, dietary customs, language, and a host of other factors contribute to the complex environment that surrounds global healthcare issues. Failure to understand and account for these differences can create a gulf between practitioners and the public they serve.

In this Assignment, you will examine a global health issue and consider the approach to this issue by the United States and by one other country.

Part 1: Global Health Comparison Matrix

Focusing on the country you selected and the U.S., complete the Global Health Comparison Matrix. Be sure to address the following:

• Consider the U.S. national/federal health policies that have been adapted for the global health issue you selected from the WHO global health agenda. Compare these policies to the additional country you selected for study.
• Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each policy.
• Explain how the social determinants of health may impact the global health issue you selected. Be specific and provide examples.
• Using the WHO’s Organization’s global health agenda as well as the results of your own research, analyze how each country’s government addresses cost, quality, and access to the global health issue selected.

Stress and Nursing Practice

Write an 500 word essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. These and many other topics are worthy of discussion. Not surprisingly, much has been said in the research, within the profession, and in the news about these topics. Whether they are issues of finance, quality, workload, or outcomes, there is no shortage of changes to be addressed.

In this Discussion, you examine a national healthcare issue and consider how that issue may impact your work setting. You also analyze how your organization has responded to this issue.

To Prepare:

• Review the Resources and select one current national healthcare issue/stressor to focus on.
• Reflect on the current national healthcare issue/stressor you selected and think about how this issue/stressor may be addressed in your work setting.

By Day 3 of Week 1

Post a description of the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected for analysis, and explain how the healthcare issue/stressor may impact your work setting. Then, describe how your health system work setting has responded to the healthcare issue/stressor, including a description of what changes may have been implemented. Be specific and provide examples.

By Day 6 of Week 1

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days who chose a different national healthcare issue/stressor than you selected. Explain how their chosen national healthcare issue/stressor may also impact your work setting and what (if anything) is being done to address the national healthcare issue/stressor.

A 5-year-old male is brought to the primary care clinic by his mother with a chief complaint of bilateral ear pain with acute onset that began “yesterday.” The mother states that the child has been crying frequently due to the pain. Ibuprofen has provided minimal relief. This morning, the child refused breakfast and appeared to be “getting worse.”

Vital signs at the clinic reveal HR 110 bpm, 28 respiratory rate, and tympanic temperature of 103.2 degrees F. Weight is 40.5 lbs. The mother reports no known allergies. The child has not been on antibiotics for the last year. The child does not have history of OM. The child is otherwise healthy without any other known health problems.

Physical examination reveals:  Vital signsl HR 110 bpm, 28 respiratory rate, and tympanic temperature of 103.2 degrees F. Weight is 40.5 lbs. Bilateral TMs are bulging with severe erythematous. Pneumatic otoscopy reveals absent mobility. Ear canals are nomal.

After your questioning and examination, you diagnose this child with bilateral Acute Otitis Media.
