Scenario:

A team of highly competent members has become adept at organizing and managing itself. The self-sufficiency of the team is appreciated by senior leadership who assumes the team can respond to challenges without support or guidance, given the team’s legacy of success. Recent challenges incited the team to request assistance; when assistance was not provided, the team began to make independent decisions. The team members believed they were the only ones who understood their work and avoided asking for help. The leaders involved believed that no news equaled good news. Neither the leaders nor the team members considered their work within the context of the entire organization. As a result, the team’s level of emotional competence decreased, along with their productivity.

Consider this scenario and address the following.

• Identify three strategies to reduce friction and build unity between the parties using emotional competence as the framework.
• What outcomes would you identify to measure the effectiveness of each strategy?
• Consider an adversarial relationship that exists between leaders and departments in your organization. How does the culture of the organization affect the situation? What knowledge, skills, and attitudes do you bring to the organization? What would others say are your leadership strengths? How can these strengths be used to reduce the adversarial relationship?

 Select the state where you plan to practice as a nurse practitioner and/or nurse leader and investigate the state’s policies on access to maternal health resources such as contraceptive care including abortion for women with and without health insurance coverage. Identify what are the state’s infant and maternal mortality rates and discuss the possible relationship between these factors.

Part I:  The Narrative Summary of your interview with male-identified (M3A1)  regarding their perceptions about their own health.Part II: An Analysis of the interview using supporting evidence based literature.  Assignment Guidelines:  For each paper you are to conduct an interview (M3 with a female identified individual and M4 with a male identified individual) which will provide information regarding the individual’s perceptions about their own health as well as their experiences in the healthcare system from the perspective of sex and gender.   Choose someone who is willing to sit with you and talk to you openly about their thoughts and experiences. This individual may be a family member, a friend, or a co-worker.Remember, do not use full names within the paper use only first names for confidentiality reasons.Part I: After completing the interview, you will write a one page narrative summary of the data you have collected addressing all key points as listed below. Use the following questions to guide your interview.

• Do you feel like your health-related habits are similar or different from other members of your sex? If so, in what way? If not, why? Any examples?

DO NOT submit the answers to the interview-rather use these to assist you in writing your narrative summary for Part I.Part I: Interview Summary

• Provide a brief description of the person you interviewed that includes demographic information. (i.e., age, occupation, family situation, marital status, etc.).
• Describe their involvement in gathering health-related information.
• Describe their relationship with the healthcare system, in terms of how often they interact with healthcare professionals and why.
• Describe their perceptions of how they compare to other members of their own sex.

Part II: Analysis: Addressing the following components, write a one page analysis using the information obtained during the interview process. Support your observations and assumptions with evidence based literature and/or readings from Module 2 and 3. A minimum of 3 articles are required.

• Discuss your perceptions of the individual you interviewed from the perspective of sex and gender.  
• Describe how similar or different are the roles and behaviors of your interviewee compared to other members of their same sex.
• Provide examples of gender-related behaviors to support your analysis.

Nurses are often portrayed in films and television. From Nurse Ratched in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, to Julia Baker in Julia, and Gaylord “Greg” Focker in Meet the Parents, nurses have been portrayed showing various traits. Some are positive, while others are less than caring. For each, the five elements of emotional intelligence, 1) self-awareness, 2) self-regulation, 3) motivation, 4) empathy, and 5) social skills, are expressed at different levels. Select a nurse archetype portrayed in films or on television and consider the following.

• What features of emotional intelligence does your selected nurse portray? What features are they lacking? Provide an example to support your rationale.
• If you were the nurse’s leader, how would use your change agent characteristics to support that individual’s growth? Provide specific examples using scenarios from the setting from which the nurse is portrayed.
• How does complexity theory or chaos theory influence the organization in which the nurse is portrayed? Provide specific examples to support your rationale.

Think about a healthcare organization that you know (or have researched). In a 1-2 page paper, explain why they should devote time to planning. Identify and describe three things the organization can accomplish by the planning process.
