For the PowerPoint and recorded presentation, create a presentation that addresses each of the following points/questions. Part 1: Assessment: Choose an adult (65 years or older) friend or relative and perform a holistic health assessment. Clearly discuss your discovered holistic health assessment data. Your assessment should include the following parts for the holistic assessment:

  • General Health History
  • Physiological Assessment
  • Psychological Assessment
  • Social Assessment
  • Cultural Assessment
  • Developmental Assessment
  • Spiritual Assessment

Part 2: Interpretation (Abnormality and Coping)

  • Choose one abnormality from the data gained in the assessments and discuss possible reasons/causes for the abnormality. 
  • How does this abnormality impact the other areas of the patient’s life?
  • Discuss the client’s stress and coping mechanisms.  
    • Are they healthy? 
    • What recommendations and improvements could be made that are individualized for this person?

Part 3: Teaching Plan: Create a teaching plan that addresses the client holistically by applying the assessment data you have analyzed. 

  • Describe at least one client goal for each of the six categories (each category should have a goal) (physical, psychological, social, cultural, developmental, and spiritual).

Older adults

Older adults (OA) are at risk for potential hazards of hospitalization, these include: immobility, delirium, medication side effects, malnutrition, pressure ulcers, procedures, peri- and postoperative periods, and hospital-acquired infections and more. Discuss in detail three potential hazards for this population while in the hospital and identify potential prevention strategies for each hazard.

In nursing practice, accurate identification and application of research is essential to achieving successful outcomes. The ability to articulate research data and summarize relevant content supports the student’s ability to further develop and synthesize the assignments that constitute the components of the capstone project.

The assignment will be used to develop a written implementation plan.

For this assignment, provide a synopsis of the review of the research literature. Using the “Literature Evaluation Table,” determine the level and strength of the evidence for each of the eight research articles you have selected. The articles should be current (within the last 5 years) and closely relate to the PICOT question developed earlier in this course. The articles may include quantitative research, descriptive analyses, longitudinal studies, or meta-analysis articles. A systematic review may be used to provide background information for the purpose or problem identified in the proposed capstone project.

Following discussion with my preceptor, there are different aspects that do need to be taken into account when proposing my education program to the OB clinic. The financial aspect that needs to be taken into consideration is how will the education program which is a pamphlet be printed and given to patients. The financial aspect would be a small portion of the clinic budget as the hospital has a print shop that allows for printing of educational papers to be done and ordered efficiently. One quality aspect that needs to be considered is increasing knowledge of parents. At the present moment there is a lack of retention of educational topics which leads to a lack of knowledge amongst parents on some areas of maternal child health. Increasing knowledge amongst parents depicts the need for having different methods of education to be successful with retention of knowledge. Also, clinically this education program will improve overall wellness for mother and baby following discharge from the hospital. The education pamphlet consists of tips to improve nipple pain and trauma during breastfeeding, ways to soothe a fussy baby, techniques to assist with knowing when a baby has had enough nutrition and when developing a sleep schedule is necessary. All of these aspects will improve the wellness of mom and baby following delivery. Overall, these aspects play a role in being successful with implementing an education initiative at the clinic.

Requirements:

You are a family nurse practitioner working in an outpatient primary care office of a large hospital system. The practice has been operating for over 15 years, and many of the administrative and clinical staff were hired when the practice opened. You have been in the practice for less than 3 months. In that short amount of time, you have witnessed several of the clinical staff engaging in heated arguments with each other, sometimes in patient areas. You overhear an argument occurring today between two staff. You pick up a patient’s chart and notice a very low blood pressure that the medical assistant failed to notify you about. When you confront the MA, she states that she was going to report the vital signs to you when she became engaged in the heated argument you overheard and forgot to notify you. 

Unfortunately, this pattern of behavior is not unusual in this practice. Working with staff who cannot cooperate effectively can negatively influence your ability to spend time with patients, can impede the flow of patients through the office, and could impact patient safety.

Part of the concerns, in this practice, are related to a hostile work environment. I am wondering about the legal ramifications of the leadership of this practice allowing a hostile work environment? Are there organizational, state or federal policies/laws to protect employees? 

Have you worked in a hostile environment in the past?

Communication, calm demeanor and professional behavior is imperative. Familiarity can breed unrest and contempt, however, it is the responsibility of the office manager to maintain a professional environment. 

So here’s something else to consider in this week’s case, looking at this week’s readings, I am wondering how the concept of a Compliance Officer would fit into this scenario?? What are your thoughts??

BHD421 Module 4 Discussion Post 2

In an interesting study I recently read about childhood obesity, a molecular marker in saliva was found to be associated with the emergence of childhood obesity in a group of preschool-aged Hispanic children. Crazy, isn’t it?! The investigators found that methylation of a gene called NRF1, which has roles in adipose tissue inflammation, was associated with childhood obesity. A child with the NRF1 methylation at baseline had a threefold increased odds of being obese three years later, after controlling for maternal BMI and other factors. What do you think would be helpful to families who find out their child has an increased disposition towards obesity? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
