• The prevalence and common causes of medication errors

Within the Shadow Health platform, complete the Focused Exam: Cough Results. The estimated average time to complete this assignment each time is 1 hour and 15 minutes. Please note, this is an average time. Some students may need longer. 

This clinical experience is a focused exam. Students must score at the level of “Proficiency” in the Shadow Health Digital Clinical Experience. Students have three opportunities to complete this assignment and score at the Proficiency level. Upon completion, submit the lab pass through the assignment dropbox.

Students successfully scoring within the Proficiency level in the Digital Clinical Experience on the first attempt will earn a grade of 100 points; students successfully scoring at the Proficiency level on the second attempt will earn a grade of 90 points; and students successfully scoring at the Proficiency level on the third attempt will earn a grade of 80 points. Students who do not pass the performance-based assessment by scoring within the Proficiency level in three attempts will receive a failing grade (68 points).

A 23-year-old male patient is admitted with a fracture of C6 and C7 that has resulted in quadriplegia. He was injured during a football game at the university where he is currently a senior. His career as a quarterback had been very promising. At the time of the injury, contract negotiations were in progress with a leading professional football team.

4. Identify a clinical topic and related nursing practice issue you think needs to be changed. 
5. Locate a systematic review on your topic from the CCN Library databases. Be sure this involves nursing actions.
6. Work through each step of the ACE Star Model as outlined on the assignment form (Star Points 1-5: Discovery, Summary, Translation, Implementation, and Evaluation). Respond to the instructions provided on the form.
7. Follow the activities and thinking of Nurse Daniel in Weeks 1-6 in the ‘Illustration’ part of each lesson. He will be working through a clinical topic and nursing practice issue to demonstrate a change (ACE Star Model and systematic review).
8. Work on a portion of the process each week, as the illustration unfolds.

The field of nursing has changed over time. In a 750‐1,000 word paper, discuss nursing practice today by addressing the following:

1. Explain how the nursing practice has changed over time and how this evolution has changed the scope of practice and the approach to treating the individual.
2. Compare and contrast the differentiated practice competencies between an associate and baccalaureate education in nursing. Explain how the scope of practice changes between an associate and baccalaureate nurse.
3. Identify a patient care situation and describe how nursing care, or approaches to decision‐making, differ between the BSN‐prepared nurse and the ADN nurse.
4. Discuss the significance of applying evidence‐based practice to nursing care and explain how the academic preparation of the RN‐BSN nurse supports its application.
5. Discuss how nurses today communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and how this supports safer and more effective patient outcomes.
