Health Care Field Research Draft

The purpose of this assignment is to identify an area or topic within health care that you would like to further understand.

In this assignment, you will begin to create a research rough draft based on the information you prepared in the “Identification of a Research Topic” from the topic 1 assignment. Utilize the GCU library and locate three additional articles that will complement and support your specific topic of interest. In a 1,500- to 2,000-word research rough draft, utilizing the research process (refer to your text, Understanding Research), include the following:

  1. An introduction to the topic.
  2. An explanation of how the articles are used in scholarly research within health care as it relates to the allied health care profession.
  3. A discussion of the ethical considerations for data collection.
  4. An explanation of what the data reveals in terms of statistical analysis, including quantitative and qualitative. Include a discussion of the conclusions that can be made from the data and how it would be applied to the health care setting.
  5. An evaluation, based on the research, of whether there is enough information to make a decision on the effectiveness on the topic as it relates to the allied health care professional.
  6. A summary of the conclusions from the articles.

Support your rough draft with at least 3 scholarly resources.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Group Processes and Stages of Formation

In your role, you must understand group processes and stages of formation, as this will help you develop groups and determine an individual’s appropriateness for group therapy. Whether you are at the beginning stages of group formation or facilitating a session for a developed group, it is important to consider factors that may influence individual client progress. For this Assignment, as you examine the video Group Therapy: A Live Demonstration in this week’s Learning Resources, consider the group’s processes, stages of formation, and other factors that might impact the effectiveness of group therapy for clients.

Learning Objectives

Students will:
  • Analyze group processes and stages of formation
  • Analyze curative factors of groups
  • Analyze the impact of curative factors on client progress
  • Recommend strategies for managing intragroup conflict
To prepare:
  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide on group processes.
  • View the media, Group Therapy: A Live Demonstration, and consider the group dynamics.

The Assignment

In a 2- to 3-page paper, address the following:

  • Explain the group’s processes and stage of formation.
  • Explain curative factors that occurred in the group. Include how these factors might impact client progress.
  • Explain intragroup conflict that occurred and recommend strategies for managing the conflict. Support your recommendations with evidence-based literature.

Review

Review “Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics: Clinical Importance Versus Statistical Significance in Research,” located in topic materials.

Provide examples of how you addressed feasibility and statistical versus clinical significance in your proposal. For example, why did you select a four-week time frame for your project versus a power analysis? Did you select this because it was feasible? Why or why not and explain.

What is the difference between clinical and statistical significance and why are both important to the patient improvement outcomes of your project?

Assessment 2

  • Quality Improvement Proposal
    • Overview:
    • Write a quality improvement proposal, 5–7 pages in length, that provides your recommendations for expanding a hospital’s HIT to include quality metrics that will help the organization qualify as an accountable care organization.
Health care has undergone a transformation since the release of the Institute of Medicine’s 2000 report To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System. The report highlighted medical errors as a contributing factor leading to poor patient outcomes. The Institute of Medicine challenged organizations to implement evidence-based performance improvement strategies in order to improve patient quality and safety. Multiple governmental and regulatory agencies, such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ), vowed to strengthen and improve incentives for participation, safety, quality, and efficiency in accountable care organizations (ACOs).
Health  information technology (HIT) performs an essential role in improving health outcomes of individuals, the community, and populations. Health organizations, consumer advocacy groups, and regulatory committees have made a commitment to explore current and future opportunities that HIT offers to continue momentum to meet the Institute of Medicine’s goal of improving safety and quality.
Understanding HIT is important to improving individual, community, and population access to health care and health information. HIT enables quick and easy access to information for both patients and providers. Accessible information has been shown to improve the patient care experience and reduce redundancies, thereby reducing health care costs.
This assessment provides an opportunity for you to make recommendations for expanding a hospital’s HIT in ways that will help the hospital qualify as an ACO.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
    • Competency 2: Explain the relationship between care coordination and evidence-based data.
      • Recommend ways to expand an organization’s HIT to include quality metrics.
      • Identify potential problems that can arise with data gathering systems and outputs.
    • Competency 3: Use health information technology to guide care coordination and organizational practice.
      • Describe the main focus of information gathering in health care and how it contributes to guiding the development of organizational practice.
    • Competency 4: Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, in an appropriate form and style, consistent with applicable organizational, professional, and scholarly standards.
      • Write clearly and concisely, using correct grammar and mechanics.
      • Support main points, claims, and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence, correctly formatting citations and references using APA style.

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion..

By Day 3 of Week 5

Post a comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state/region with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.
