Possible reservation include respecting Sister mary’s decision if she choses not to participate in assessment invovling private areas, or if she would prefer a female nurse instead of a male nurse. Also, if Sister Mary prefrs that certain areas of hte assessmetn is ommitted, she needs to be respected. Also, during imaging, if Sister mary choses to wear any crucifix or any religious items with her so long as this does not interfere with the imaging, allow her to do that. In working with Sister Mary, the healthcare professional must be non-judgmental and should eliminate prejudice and biases that she may have and treat Sister Mary with utmost dignity and respect. Patient-centered care must be provided to Sister Mary as with other patients.

Emotional support and alleviation of fear and anxiety are another major tenants of patient-centered care nursing. Fear and anxiety which is closely associated with disease and morbidities are debilitating and negatively affects patient care. The patient-centered nursing care promotes caregivers and healthcare providers to pay attention to anxiety on the physical condition of the client, the course of treatment and the outcome of the treatment, the anxiety over the impact of the treatment and the condition on the client and the family, and lastly, anxiety over the financial impact of illness (Rozenblum, 2013). Involvement and family friends, therefore, plays an important role in supporting the client for wellness. Patient-centered nursing delivery recognizes and accommodation for family and friends, provide support to the family and the caregivers, involves them in the decision-making and recognize their needs.

There are many psychosocial factors that can influence the patient/nurse relationship. These factors include past experiences, gender, age, religion and cultural background among others (Falvo,2011). The nurse should assess not only the patients psychosocial factors but also their own. In the case of Sister Mary the biggest reservation for working with Sister Mary would be the religious beliefs between the nurse and Sister Mary. Being a Nun and an obvious devout Catholic if the nurse caring for Sister Mary doesn’t have those religious beliefs it could interfere with the nurse/patient relationship. The nurse could be intimidated by Sister Mary because she is so ingrained in religion and what if the nurse wasn’t religious but instead spiritual. The nurse could also not believe in any type of higher power which would make it even harder to deal with the beliefs of Sister Mary. However, to have a effective experience with Sister Mary the nurse shouldn’t put her beliefs onto Mary and instead focus on the needs of the patient. If Sister Mary requests a priest be present or to have only female providers the nurse should do everything in her power to ensure that she is made as comfortable as possible. Also even if the views of the patient and the nurse do differ it is important that the nurse focuses the care on the patient and their needs. Many times in my nursing career I haven’t agreed with how my patients believe but I still provide them with the best care available to them.

essay

In 250-300 words, discuss the following:

Discuss how the role of today’s periop nurse has changed and how you, the BSN-prepared nurse, can play a vital role regarding evidence-based practice.

Use APA format and include 1 scholarly journal reference (5 years old or less).

Discussion: Searching Databases

When you decide to purchase a new car, you first decide what is important to you. If mileage and dependability are the important factors, you will search for data focused more on these factors and less on color options and sound systems.

The same holds true when searching for research evidence to guide your clinical inquiry and professional decisions. Developing a formula for an answerable, researchable question that addresses your need will make the search process much more effective. One such formula is the PICO(T) format.

In this Discussion, you will transform a clinical inquiry into a searchable question in PICO(T) format, so you can search the electronic databases more effectively and efficiently. You will share this PICO(T) question and examine strategies you might use to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question.

To Prepare:

  • Review the materials offering guidance on using databases, performing keyword searches, and developing PICO(T) questions provided in the Resources.
  • Review the Resources for guidance and develop a PICO(T) question of interest to you for further study.

By Day 3 of Week 4

Post your PICO(T) question, the search terms used, and the names of at least two databases used for your PICO(T) question. Then, describe your search results in terms of the number of articles returned on original research and how this changed as you added search terms using your Boolean operators. Finally, explain strategies you might make to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question. Be specific and provide examples.

he integration of technology has been a challenge to the field of nursing. Technology and new equipment is designed to create a positive influence and help decreasing human errors. Some examples of technology in the nursing field are: automated IV pumps, portable monitors, smart beds, wearable devices, electronic medical record systems, centralized command centers, and telehealth (Nursing & Healthcare, 2019). Some nurses are resistant to change which causes a problem when introducing new technology to a nursing department. Due to nursing shortages, there may not be the time or appropriate staff to provide the formal training required to utilize the new technology and equipment to the fullest. We need to recognize that technology is used to help nurses but it cannot and will never replace the human element of nursing. This nursing problem should continue to be studied and researched to determine the best method for educating nurses on new technology and equipment. The more educational material and studies available, will hopefully make nurses less resistant to change. “A recent survey found that 82% of nurses agree that new technology and equipment innovation will positively impact patient care.” (Nursing & Healthcare, 2019). We just need to make sure that everyone is onboard with learning the new technology.

Menaldo 4 postsRe: Topic 1 DQ 2

I’ve been nurse for quite a while. Over the years, I’ve seen many pressure ulcers. I’ve seen many remedies and apparatuses to resolve and/or prevent pressure ulcers. In my current hospital, I work on the surgical unit. For every hip fracture admitted to my unit, we apply a soft boot to each foot (like a soft podus boot), and they are maintained until discharge with rationale being “people who have reduced mobility, or who spend extended periods supine (e.g. patients in acute and long‐term care facilities), have an increased risk for heel pressure ulcer development” (Greenwood, 2017). I work night shift, 7p-7a, and I remove them during my shift, and elevate my patients heels on pillows to float them. I remove them for a couple of reasons. Not only do they restrict my patient’s movement because they are velcroed on, but I find them so tightly put on that I worry about pressure from the straps. Also, my patients will tell me “thank you, they’re too warm”, when I remove them. Therefore, I would like to study the benefits of wearing the soft boots, compared to not wearing them to prevent pressure ulcers, for patients over 65 with hip fractures, over the next 7 days.

Benchmark – Human Experience Across the Health-Illness Continuum

Research the health-illness continuum and its relevance to patient care. In a 750-1,000 word paper, discuss the relevance of the continuum to patient care and present a perspective of your current state of health in relation to the wellness spectrum. Include the following:

Examine the health-illness continuum and discuss why this perspective is important to consider in relation to health and the human experience when caring for patients.

Explain how understanding the health-illness continuum enables you, as a health care provider, to better promote the value and dignity of individuals or groups and to serve others in ways that promote human flourishing.

Reflect on your overall state of health. Discuss what behaviors support or detract from your health and well-being. Explain where you currently fall on the health-illness continuum.

Discuss the options and resources available to you to help you move toward wellness on the health-illness spectrum. Describe how these would assist in moving you toward wellness (managing a chronic disease, recovering from an illness, self-actualization, etc.).

Assignment: Evidence-Based Project, Part 1: Identifying Research Methodologies,NURS 5052/NURS 6052/NURS 6052N/NRSE 6052C/NURS 6052C/NURS 5052C/NURS 6052A/NRSE 6052A: Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice

Is there a difference between “common practice” and “best practice”?

When you first went to work for your current organization, experienced colleagues may have shared with you details about processes and procedures. Perhaps you even attended an orientation session to brief you on these matters. As a “rookie,” you likely kept the nature of your questions to those with answers that would best help you perform your new role.

Over time and with experience, perhaps you recognized aspects of these processes and procedures that you wanted to question further. This is the realm of clinical inquiry.

Clinical inquiry is the practice of asking questions about clinical practice. To continuously improve patient care, all nurses should consistently use clinical inquiry to question why they are doing something the way they are doing it. Do they know why it is done this way, or is it just because we have always done it this way? Is it a common practice or a best practice?

In this Assignment, you will identify clinical areas of interest and inquiry and practice searching for research in support of maintaining or changing these practices. You will also analyze this research to compare research methodologies employed.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry. Keep in mind that the clinical issue you identify for your research will stay the same for the entire course.
  • Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
  • Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
  • Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Part 1: Identifying Research Methodologies

After reading each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, use the Matrix Worksheet template to analyze the methodologies applied in each of the four peer-reviewed articles. Your analysis should include the following:

  • The full citation of each peer-reviewed article in APA format.
  • A brief (1-paragraph) statement explaining why you chose this peer-reviewed article and/or how it relates to your clinical issue of interest, including a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest.
  • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article.
  • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the research methodology used. Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.
  • A brief (1- to 2-paragraph) description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
