Week 4 6640

Cognitive behavior Therapy vs Rational EmotiveBehaviour Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a psychological therapy used in treating patients with depression and to incite happiness in the patient. The therapy approaches the problem by targeting at the solution to the problem more than going back to the causes. On the other hand, rational emotive behavioral therapy, majorly known as REBT, is also another psychotherapy used to solve problems concerning stress. This therapy uses the replacement of self-rejecting feelings in a depressed person with self-believe and confidence (Ellis, 2013). The therapy challenges the rationale of bad thoughts about self.

There are a number of similarities that both therapies share, these include: Both of the therapies employ psychoeducation in the treatment of stress, the therapies also teach the patient on how to employ therapeutic techniques in treating themselves (Szentagotai, David, Lupu, & Cosman, 2008). Another similarity between the two therapies is that emphasis is laid on the importance of cognitive psychological dysfunction and they all focus on changing the behavior of the patient through their various different approaches.

Differences in the therapies

Despite these similarities, the two therapies have variations which distinguish them. These differences include; Self- acceptance: the rational emotive behavior therapy focuses on the self-acceptance of the patient. It encourages the patient to accept themselves back and try to see the positive in them and stop blaming themselves about the past. The cognitive behavior therapy, on the other hand, is more concerned about the self-esteem of the patient (Szentagotai, David, Lupu, & Cosman, 2008).

The philosophy: the rational emotive behavior therapy earns more credit because it concerns in digging deeper into the philosophic causes of stress and try to encourage the patient to focus on the positive and wipe out the negative from their minds. Cognitive behavior therapy is attached more importance in the future of the patient rather than the cause of the problem. The therapy builds the self-esteem of the patient through encouragement and giving them the hope of a better future.

Solution approach: while the rational emotive behavior therapy approaches the problem from the past point of view and tries to educate the patient on the importance of viewing the positive side of the problem than focusing on the negative. The cognitive behavior therapy, on the other hand, approaches it from the current point of the situation and start tech the patient to attach value on themselves.

The recommended therapy

The cognitive behavior model is the best therapy to be recommended for a client. I will base my decision on various factors implying that this type of therapy is superior. The philosophical approach to the problem in this therapy is realistic since it considers the personality of the patient as the main source of the solution (Dobson, & Dozois, (Eds.), 2019). The therapy educates the patient on their own importance as compared to the issue which is a mere episode in their lives. The therapy also has more persuasive techniques that can be used to convince a patient to transform their thinking.

case study.. Prejudice bias reflection paper [ course: Theories of Human Behavour]

One of the objectives of this course is to push students to evaluate their own biases, prejudices or misunderstandings. Students will, therefore, write a reflection paper (5-7 pages long) that assesses their own preconceptions about issues or people. Students may not feel comfortable admitting or writing about their biases but it is important to remember that the first step to solving a problem is admitting that you have one.

You could write about a certain episode that happened in the past or you could write about a continuing struggle. Assess that prejudice through the lens of theories. No one is born prejudices but we learn it as we grow up. In your case, how did you learn about the prejudice, how do you believe you internalized it to the point where you started disliking the specific people/group? Use theories to analyze this learned behavior so that we know how behaviors are learned and imbibed in our lives.

You must include the following sections in your paper:

  • Introduction – name the prejudice/bias, definitions, issues or groups you are referring to, any particular experience that led to it,
  • sources of bias
  • Your thoughts, feelings, preconceived notions
  • Relevant theories on how this belief was learned, reinforced
  • Theories like system perspective, conflict perspective, social constructive perspective, exchange and choice perspective (these are the theory of human behavior)
  • How it informed your behavior or your worldview
  • What you are doing about it

Peer 1

After reviewing the Healthy People 2020 topics and objectives for some, I have identified objectives that are amenable to parish nurse intervention. First and foremost, faith communities can contribute to the accomplishment of these objectives and accomplish the goal of improving the health of the public by integrating body, mind, and spirit, offering a way to promote health, healing, and wellness of the individuals, families, and communities (Pappas-Rogich & King, 2014). Florence Nightingale first showed the need for nursing to honor the psychological and spiritual aspects to help promote health, but the 19th and 20th centuries have shown health care to be more concerned with curing illness and providing medically prescribed treatment instead (Pappas-Rogich & King, 2014). Faith community nursing (FCN) assists families to become more engaged participants in the care of personal and communal resources (Pappas-Rogich & King, 2014). There has been evidence to show church-based programs have formed great impacts on varieties of health behaviors, especially in the range of nutrition and physical activity and have had greater lasting effects on individuals that make a change by linking it between healthy behavior and taking care of God’s child (Pappas-Rogich & King, 2014). These health messages and activities can then be shared with friends, family, and even social media that may help reach greater populations and have a positive effect towards improving health. The trust between community nurses and parish nurses within the community can help develop partnerships to obtain these goals.

Peer 2

In this week’s lecture we continue to learn about the nursing profession. Likewise, we focused on several specialty areas in nursing as they relate the progression of healthcare. In this week’s discussion I’ll focus on the role different health departments play in healthcare. Programs in public health have become an essential component in healthcare as it has show to improve the health of a population (Lancaster, M, J 2020). Corresponding my local and state health department, have a major role when it comes to establishing health promotion. In my current state, the health department is known as the Pennsylvania Department of Health. My states department of health plays a role in health promotion by promoting healthy lifestyle habits, education on disease prevention, and ensuring that the community has access to receive quality care in the state of Pennsylvania (Department of Health, 2020).

The goal of Health People 2020, it to promote healthy living amongst people of all ages. By having public health nurses, my local health departments is able to educate the community on risk factors associated with various diseases, offer health screenings, and education and resources to maintain a health life. In addition, federal public health departments create reforms to establish funding for activities pertaining to public health, so that the community can achieve quality living as a whole (Lancaster, M, J, 2020).  Public health nurses can patients change unhealthy habits at the primary prevention level by offering immunizations and local sports teams for the community. Likewise public health nurses can also promote health behaviors by conduction community clinics that offer health screenings such a blood pressure readings (Ali & Katz, 2015). Ultimately, it is our job as a community to preserve our environment, actively participate in exercise, and maintain a good nutrition because it will allow us to improve the world of healthcare as a community.
