Course Competency:

  • Compare the care models for nursing practice specific to the older adult.

Transferable Skill:

  • Information Literacy: Discovering information reflectively, understanding how information is produced and valued, and using information to create new knowledge and participate ethically in communities of learning.

Your nursing supervisor likes the topic you chose for the in-service presentation and wants you to start researching! To make sure you get the project on the right track, your supervisor has asked you to do the following:

  1. Using the Rasmussen Library, identify at least 2 resources pertaining to your topic.
  2. Prepare an annotated bibliography for the resources you identified. Each entry will include:
    1. the full APA formatted reference
    2. an annotation consisting of the following elements:

      • 1 or 2 sentences to assess and evaluate the source
      • 1 or 2 sentences to reflect on the source

tip

For information about making a research appointment with a Rasmussen librarian, evaluating the credibility of a source, or creating an annotated bibliography, consult the resources below.

remember

Once you receive your graded submission, be sure to review the supervisor’s feedback. You want to make sure that your next submission shows that you made appropriate improvements based on the feedback.

Closing the knowledge gap is an essential skill for the DNP practice scholar. Reflect upon your application of evidence-based practice and professional formation to consider the following.

  • What process do you employ to identify knowledge gaps in your nursing practice?
  • What strategies will you use to overcome these knowledge gaps?
  • As a leader in healthcare, how will you maximize others’ potential as they overcome knowledge gaps?
  • How will you lead evidence-based practice at your workplace?

Provide an example of experimental, quasi-experimental, and nonexperimental research from the GCU Library and explain how each research type differs from the others. When replying to peers, evaluate the effectiveness of the research design of the study for two of the examples provided

If not, begin soliciting recommendations via LinkedIn or contact them directly by email or telephone. Be polite and professional in your solicitation. Homework

1. Examine this case study through the dependency cycle model (Fig. 14.3). The outer arrows show a progression through varying stages of dependency. The inner circle represents who can be involved in the dependency cycle. Where are Jane and Dan in this cycle?

2. Using the basic dependent-care system model (Fig. 14.4), assess Dan and Jane. Identify the basic conditioning factors (BCFs) for each. What is the effect of Dan’s BCFs on his self-care agency? Is he able to meet his therapeutic self-care demands? Continue on to diagnose Dan’s self-care deficit and resulting dependent-care deficit. Now assess Jane’s self-care system.

3. Design a nursing system that addresses Jane’s self-care system as she increases her role as dependent-care agent for Dan.

Discussion Post

Discussion question: Joshua Martin is a 5-year-old boy who started kindergarten this year. Joshua’s wheezing intensifies after he lies on the floor mats in his classroom for a nap. Joshua receives albuterol (a β2-agonist) treatments four to five times a year in the emergency department for this condition and experiences temporary relief of symptoms. The school nurse’s observations of Joshua include the following: absence of fever or sore throat, persistent dry cough, wheezing, exercise intolerance, and a history of resolution of symptoms after β2-agonists treatments. After a pulmonary function test is done at his pediatrician’s office, it is determined that Joshua has moderate persistent asthma and allergic rhinitis.

  • Which of the school nurse’s observations are consistent with the diagnosis of asthma?
  • How would you explain the purposes and expected results of a pulmonary function test?
  • In providing education to Joshua and his mother, how would you incorporate the use of a peak flow meter and what developmentally appropriate instructions would you give?
  • In developing plan of care goals, the school nurse recognizes what level of activity is appropriate for children with asthma?
  • The school nurse recognizes that Joshua is using correct inhaler technique by observing which demonstrations? What would you use for a child unable to use a MDI correctly?

Actual work where 2 students given their post on this:
Discuss in 500 words or more the differences between and advantages of MAC, DAC, and RBAC.

Use at least three sources.   Use the Research Databases available from the Danforth Library not Google. Include at least 3 quotes from your sources enclosed in quotation marks and cited in-line by reference to your reference list.  Example: “words you copied” (citation) These quotes should be one full sentence not altered or paraphrased. Cite your sources using APA format. Use the quotes in your paragaphs.  Stand alone quotes will not count toward the 3 required quotes.

Copying without attribution or the use of spinbot or other word substitution software will result in a grade of 0.

Write in essay format not in bulleted, numbered or other list format.

Reply to two classmates’ posting in a paragraph of at least five sentences by asking questions, reflecting on your own experience, challenging assumptions, pointing out something new you learned, offering suggestions. These peer responses are not ‘attaboys’.

It is important that you use your own words, that you cite your sources, that you comply with the instructions regarding length of your post and that you reply to two classmates in a substantive way (not ‘nice post’ or the like).  Your goal is to help your colleagues write better. Do not use spinbot or other word replacement software. It usually results in nonsense and is not a good way to learn anything. . I will not spend a lot of my time trying to decipher nonsense. Proof read your work or have it edited. Find something interesting and/or relevant to your work to write about.
