Nursing and the aging Family DQ week 7 part two

Week 7 Discussion Question: Chapter 29, Mental Health Disorders

Part two: Many older adults are prescribed psychotropic medications. What are the side effects of these medications and how do they impact the normal aging older adult?

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

Prepare this assignment as a 1,500-1,750 word paper using the instructor feedback from the previous course assignments and the guidelines below.

PICOT Question

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

The final PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Research Critiques

In the Topic 2 and Topic 3 assignments, you completed a qualitative and quantitative research critique on two articles for each type of study (4 articles total). Use the feedback you received from your instructor on these assignments to finalize the critical analysis of each study by making appropriate revisions.

The completed analysis should connect to your identified practice problem of interest that is the basis for your PICOT question.

Refer to “Research Critiques and PICOT Guidelines – Final Draft.” Questions under each heading should be addressed as a narrative in the structure of a formal paper.

Proposed Evidence-Based Practice Change

Discuss the link between the PICOT question, the research articles, and the nursing practice problem you identified. Include relevant details and supporting explanation and use that information to propose evidence-based practice changes.

General Requirements

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide

Assessing a Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation

Program/policy evaluation is a valuable tool that can help strengthen the quality of programs/policies and improve outcomes for the populations they serve. Program/policy evaluation answers basic questions about program/policy effectiveness. It involves collecting and analyzing information about program/policy activities, characteristics, and outcomes. This information can be used to ultimately improve program services or policy initiatives.

Nurses can play a very important role assessing program/policy evaluation for the same reasons that they can be so important to program/policy design. Nurses bring expertise and patient advocacy that can add significant insight and impact. In this Assignment, you will practice applying this expertise and insight by selecting an existing healthcare program or policy evaluation and reflecting on the criteria used to measure the effectiveness of the program/policy.

To Prepare:

  • Review      the Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation Analysis Template provided (attached)      in the Resources.
  • Select      an existing healthcare program or policy evaluation or choose one of      interest to you -your choice…US healthcare program or policy of your      choice.
  • Review      community, state, or federal policy evaluation and reflect on the criteria      used to measure the effectiveness of the program or policy described .

The Assignment:

Based on the program or policy evaluation you selected, complete the Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation Analysis Template (ATTACHED). Be sure to address the following:

  • Describe      the healthcare program or policy outcomes.
  • How      was the success of the program or policy measured?
  • How      many people were reached by the program or policy selected?
  • How      much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?
  • At      what point in program implementation was the program or policy evaluation      conducted?
  • What      data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?
  • What      specific information on unintended consequences was identified?
  • What      stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy?      Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or      policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples.
  • Did      the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why      not?
  • Would      you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work?      Why or why not?
  • Identify      at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in      evaluating a program or policy after 1 year of implementation.

article review research

1. Choose one of the articles posted and read thoroughly.

2. Identify the theoretical framework used in the article you chose.

3. Go the reference section of the article and Identify/select at least one primary source and one secondary source (articles) that also used the theoretical framework.

4. Now, search the electronic database such as Gale-Infotract on LIRN, CINAHL, or ProQuest to identify the primary and secondary source articles you selected.

Post a brief review the abstracts of the primary source and secondary source in the article you chose.

The article is attached at the bottom read it and answer the questions in essay style. APA format

The article(You need to tell which article that you are discussing) talks more about the three domains that surround the nursing profession the satisfaction of nurses during work progress, nursing work environment, and quality of nursing care that is given. These domains are studied to come up with a way forward in providing a very comprehensive and quality delivery (Liaschenko, J. (1995). This write-up provides a clear relationship between the nurses and the organization that is found in this sector, example NSW health organizations. The interaction between the nurses and these organizations is important as it allows the organizations to study the needs of the nurses and providing a better environment. This writes up is concerned with the studies of how the environment for nurses has raised a major issue that compromises the nurses’ satisfaction. The satisfaction of nurses comes from the environment where nurses work from, leading to a perfect job. This study also provides valuable insights that conclude that the changes in the practice environment of the nurse come with a positive impact on the job of the nurse whereby he/she performs better that is a result of satisfaction. You never stated the framework used in the article: I suspect you are discussing “Investing n Human Relations….? which used the Structure- Process- Outcome (SBO) paradigm/model. This is stated in the article.

The literature also gives an analysis of the relationship between the three domains determining the satisfaction of the nurses. The three domains include the nursing practice environment, job satisfaction, and the quality of nursing care as a single-dimensional. The research is saying that the three Domains are mutually dependent on one another therefore, effects that come as a result of one can cause harm to the other factors. It has been Witten in this article that the services provided by nurses who are working in an unfavorable environment may end up providing fair or poor health care.

Therefore the nurses must be provided with a very conducive environment to enable them to come up with greater services that can be liked and help the patients. The research of this paper was done in the year 1999 up to 2010 but there were no findings that could explain the three domains that is nursing practice environment, job satisfaction, and equity of nursing care in reciprocal directions (Castle et.al 2006). The nursing practice environmental changes are drawn without the proper consideration of how each domain can affect each other. The change in the healthcare system will also raise issues whereby the nurses tend to believe that these changes will have effects on the effectiveness, efficiency, and timeliness of the patients’ health care. The article also says that despite all changes from the restructuring of the health system, the nurses are still getting problems at work, facing hostility, injuries, and verbal abuse. This statement makes it clear that there is a need for us to study the possible improvements in the three domains. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the possible relationship between the three domains

Primary source_ you were required to name a primary source used in the article which you did not name and provide an electronic link for the primary source with a summary of the abstract. This was not completed. Download the assignment to a word doc and complete the categories for discussion.

This source provides the strategies for analyzing the qualitative data that is used in health services research (Fylan F, 2005). These include data designing of data to come up with the relevant information that is used in the analysis. The analysis is done by using data that is collected. This data analysis can lead to practical approaches that are very important to the research. There is also a description approach of data analysis that applies the use of inductive reasoning that provides guidance and directions for data analysis and interpretation. Qualitative inquiry can help to break down the complex analysis phenomena in the health services researches.

Secondary source+ same problem here as noted with primary source. Follow the directions.

The relationship between the three domains that are; nursing practice environment, job satisfaction, and quality of nursing healthcare has been explored by many studies to provide a superior health delivery by nurses (Bradley EH, Curry LA, Devers KJ, 2007). This literature reveals that the relationship between the three domains is one dimensional that has resulted in the structural changes in the nursing environment to meet the nurses’ needs. The paper comes with the reciprocal evidence in the relationships between the domains regarding the NSW health organization. This research was conducted through questionnaires that provided the results of how the nurse’s interactions with the administrations impacted the relationships between the three domains.

Module 1 Assignment: Case Study Analysis

An understanding of cells and cell behavior is a critically important component of disease diagnosis and treatment. But some diseases can be complex in nature, with a variety of factors and circumstances impacting their emergence and severity.

Effective disease analysis often requires an understanding that goes beyond isolated cell behavior. Genes, the environments in which cell processes operate, the impact of patient characteristics, and racial and ethnic variables all can have an important impact.

An understanding of the signals and symptoms of alterations in cellular processes is a critical step in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. For APRNs, this understanding can also help educate patients and guide them through their treatment plans.

In this Assignment, you examine a case study and analyze the symptoms presented. You identify cell, gene, and/or process elements that may be factors in the diagnosis, and you explain the implications to patient health.

To prepare:

By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to a specific case study for this Case Study Assignment. Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignment from your Instructor.

The Assignment (1- to 2-page case study analysis)

Develop a 1- to 2-page case study analysis in which you:

  • Explain why you think the patient presented the symptoms described.
  • Identify the genes that may be associated with the development of the disease.
  • Explain the process of immunosuppression and the effect it has on body systems.
By Day 7 of Week 2

Submit your Case Study Analysis Assignment by Day 7 of Week 2.

Reminder: The College of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. CASE STUDY

Scenario 4: A 65-year-old obese African American male patient presents to his HCP with crampy left lower quadrant pain, constipation, and fevers to 101˚ F. He has had multiple episodes like this one over the past 15 years and they always responded to bowel rest and oral antibiotics. He has refused to have the recommended colonoscopy even with his history of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (diverticulitis), sedentary lifestyle, and diet lacking in fiber. His paternal grandfather died of colon cancer back in the 1950s as well. He finally underwent colonoscopy after his acute diverticulitis resolved. Colonoscopy revealed multiple polyps that were retrieved, and the pathology was positive for adenocarcinoma of the colon.

Putting It All Together

For this assignment, you are going to put it all together.  The last two assignments have highlighted various portions of your diet. Now, what would your healthy, well-balanced diet look like?  What foods would it include?

This assignment includes two parts. You are to write a report that covers both.  You should have a title page and include references if you need them.

Part I.

During weeks 1 and 2, you recorded and analyzed your dietary intake for 3 24-hr periods.  Now modify your intake to meet the following dietary recommendations. In order to make the changes, you will need to use Cronometer (https://cronometer.com/).  This is a web-based diet analysis program that is available on the computer, cellphone, or tablet. This will be the first time you use this program for this class, so set up an account and log in.

Your new diet analysis must meet these goals.  These should look familiar.  They are recommendations we have discussed throughout the class.

  1. Calorie intake is within 200 calories of the calorie level recommended by the diet analysis program. Be sure you selected the correct activity for your daily activities.
  2. All nutrients meet or exceed the target or limit.  Be sure not to exceed the upper limit for the nutrient.
  3. The source of calories from carbohydrates is >55% and the source of calories from fat is <25%.

Screenshot the results of your analysis.  You need to submit this file in the assignment area along with your Word file.

Once you have modified your diet, fill in the table below. Be sure to copy and paste the table into your report.  You can add more lines by placing your cursor in the last cell and hit the “tab” button.  This will add another line to the table.  You may not have the same number of foods in each column.

Foods I deleted from my diet:

Foods I changed the amount in my diet:

New Foods I added to my diet:

Answer the following questions in a short written essay. This summary should be at least one page, double-spaced, 12 point font, and 1” margins.

  1. Was making the changes an easy task?
  2. Are the changes realistic?
  3. Is there a particular type of food you found yourself adding and/or deleting?

Part II.

In the next two pages, you may do one of two things.  Whichever one you pick, your summary should be at least two pages, double-spaced, 12 point font, and 1” margins.  Use references where needed.

  1. Relate the changes you made in your diet to five things you learned in the class.  There is no right or wrong. Be sure to explain your response in detail. Do make the five items obvious such as a new paragraph for each item.
  2. Implement one of the following and describe your experience.  Your discussion should include the obstacles and successes you faced implementing the change
  • Take all your vitamins and minerals through food for a week.
  • Obtain all protein through food for a week.
  • Increase your whole grains intake for a week.

Vulnerable population

Identify a vulnerable population or a community health issue and use what you have learned during this course using EBP to guide health technology, community resources, screening, outreach, referral and follow up to improve health outcomes in the community.

Must address all of the topics.

At least 200 words minimum 300 words maximum.

APA format, including a minimum of two references within a 5 year span.

Nursing is a challenging profession, adapting and overcoming changes, implementations and handling difficult situations. The “annual rate of violent victimization for nurses and physicians was 8.1 and 10.1, respectively, per 1,000 workers compared with 5.1 for all occupations” (Copeland, 2017). Every day nurses, doctors, and health care providers are abused in some way and I want it to stop. I was inspired by this project idea from a recent situation of workplace violence. Actually, for the last few months, I have been faced with difficult situations including confrontation, being yelled at, and called terrible names that no one should deal with, all while just trying to do my job. The most recent situation that I was involved in was where I was verbally abused and yelled at and no actions were taken but giving in to the patient’s unruly behaviors. Luckily my shift was over after an hour of dealing with a packed Emergency Department with over 20 patients in the lobby and no beds available for this patient. We were attempting to get her evaluated and then moved to a bed in the Emergency Department. I want to feel safe and protected at work and I don’t want to fear going into work. My initial project idea was to have a zero-tolerance policy and have these patients in any shape or form taken off hospital grounds and I know this sounds cruel but the violence has to stop. This idea seemed doable at the time but due to multiple issues, patients cannot be removed from a hospital if medical care is needed. I have learned that workplace violence has to be taken seriously and professionally. With the current research that I have collected, policy assessments and current policies in place; I have learned that a policy is only a guide and that real-life situations/scenarios happen. My intent now is to revise current policies in place, add educational tools and training and improve our “Code Grey” response with inter collaboration. These changes may be minor but if I can help save one health care provider’s life, the fight will be worth it.
