Sally was recently hired as a caseworker with a local organization that provides services to disadvantaged teenagers. Sally has become especially close to a 15-year-old girl who is pregnant. She says that the girl reminds her of what she was like at that age. She spends more time than a worker usually would with this client. You are Sally’s coworker and you are concerned about her attachment to this client. You have discussed this issue with your supervisor who says, “Well, that’s just Sally. You know how she is.” Later that evening you visit a local club and see your supervisor there. She is on a date with one of the other caseworkers. You also see Sally there. You are a competent human services worker who is familiar with ethical boundaries and violations. Something needs to be done

grant writing discussion 2
You have determined a project idea and are ready to begin the research to find the RFP that is the best match for your project.
There are many viable approaches to searching for and locating project funding, but the most effective are those that utilize appropriate technologies. With the specifics of your project in mind, look for RFPs using the state, federal, and foundation grants databases/search engines listed in this week’s Learning Resources. This is an important step, so take your time in identifying grant providers that issue grant awards that align to your organization’s specific cause or need. Bookmark these websites and keep notes in the Process Development Template. Each website offers a wealth of varied information for grant seekers that can greatly enhance your developing understanding of grantsmanship.
When reviewing RFPs, look specifically for the following information:
- Who is eligible to apply?
- How many awards/grants are being given?
- What is the dollar amount of the grant/award?
- What are the collaboration/partnership requirements?
- What is the length of the grant period?
- For private funders, who is on their board and does the applicant have any existing relationships with anyone?
Keep in mind:
- RFPs that refer to online applications may tend to be less complicated.
- RFPs for multi-year projects will be more complicated than those for a 1-year period.
Note: For purposes of this course, please adhere to the following parameters:
• You may use RFPs from federal agencies.
• You may use RFPs for a research project.
• Do not worry about submission dates that appear on the RFP.
As you examine various sites, document where you searched and the keywords you used. Keep in mind that if you do not find an appropriate and applicable RFP (there isn’t always a funder for every project), you may need to adjust your project or your project plan. Assess your project honestly to determine whether you need to explore another course of action.
For this Discussion, analyze your search results for state, federal, and foundation grants, and select the RFPs that best match your project.
By Day 3 of Week 2
Post a link (URL) for each of the three RFPs that best align to your project. Include a summary that provides a rationale for each of your choices. The rationale should address the alignment of the RFP to your project idea as well as alignment of the funder itself. Why is this a good match?
Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format from the Learning Resources and your own research.

Improving Organizational Culture: Acceptance of Religion and Orientation
Fig Technologies has identified concerns at several of their offices globally. Division has been noted on key teams based upon religion and sexual orientation. Several team members have complained that the non-Christian holidays and LGBT celebrations are not recognized by the established company celebrations or paid time off for observance. There have been complaints with regard to coworkers making harassing comments to this effect. The Executive Leadership Council has asked for you to draft an assessment of these concerns and then to propose a plan of action for addressing these concerns. Further, include a preliminary draft of policy to be included as an addendum to the organizational policy on discrimination and harassment. In your report, be sure to address the following:
- Compare the impact of different religious beliefs and practices (choose three to four different religions) and how these affect the organizational culture, and describe how your new plan and policy will improve organizational culture through inclusion of different religious beliefs and practices.
- Compare how belief systems of different gender orientations and sexual orientations may impact the organizational culture, and describe the effects of discrimination against any of these. In your plan of action, address how inclusion and assimilation of different orientations will improve organizational culture.
Support your recommendation through the use of at least two sources, one of which can be the textbook. Content should be two to three pages in length. Length does not include an assessment tool, if used, though it may be added as an addendum (recommended, not required). All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. All references and citations used must be in APA style.
Have some fun with the assignment. Use your creative thinking along with your critical thinking to include your perspective of the findings and how to address the issue.

Internal Consistency at Customers First Case Study
Write a short paper addressing job analysis and job evaluation as they relate to employee compensation. Begin by thoroughly reading Chapter 6 the case study “Internal Consistency at Customers First” at the end of the chapter.
Internal Consistency at Customers First Case Study :
After 3 months in her new role as Director of Human Resources (HR) at Customers First, Deborah Ketson feels confident she has identified the significant HR issues at the company. She has prioritized the issues and is meeting with company president Joan Bates to make her recommendations. Deborah is prepared to discuss her top priority, which is to conduct an organization-wide job analysis and job evaluation project in order to start building a more internally consistent pay structure.
Customers First is a company that provides customer service for other companies. Small-to-medium-sized companies outsource their customer service function to Customers First, which manages all customer service for their clients through a call center and also via an online customer service center. The company works with a diverse group of clients ranging from small retail stores to larger online retailers. Customers First has grown quickly in the 5 years since Joan started the company, and now employs more than 150 customer service representatives (CSRs) and other support staff.
The company’s quick growth has led to several problems with its compensation structure. Much of the company’s hiring has occurred in response to a new contract, and pay was set based on the current market rate for CSRs in order to attract the right talent. For example, an early client was a small retail store that needed fairly simple customer support. Four CSRs were hired and their pay was set at just slightly above minimum wage. In comparison, a more recent client required hiring 18 CSRs. The labor market was competitive at the time, and the company hired these 18 new employees at a pay rate well above what others at the company were paid. Such variance has occurred often in the hiring process, resulting in groups of CSRs at much different levels of pay for doing substantially similar work.
Deborah has heard many complaints from the supervisors about inequities in the pay of the CSRs. The supervisors are concerned that the inequities may lead to turnover among some of the staff. Deborah has examined the pay rates of the CSRs across the organization and agrees with the supervisors that there are some concerns. One particular concern is that the lowest paid group of CSRs is primarily female, while the highest paid group includes all male employees. By talking with the supervisors, Deborah has learned that there are some CSRs with different levels of responsibilities and skills, but they all hold the same job title. Deborah believes that an organization-wide job analysis and job evaluation is necessary to build an internally consistent compensation structure.
However, when she shared her recommendation with Joan, she did not receive the response she expected. Joan is resistant of the job analysis and job evaluation process as she thinks that having such a structured compensation system will limit the company’s ability to be flexible in the marketplace. Often hiring happens quickly in response to a new client contract, and they must hire the right skill set, which might vary based on the current market rates. Further, Joan suggested the entire project would be too time-consuming for Deborah and the other staff that would need to be involved. She felt their time would be better spent on other concerns such as recruiting new staff.
Then write a short paper that adequately answers the following questions:
- Do you think that job analysis and job evaluation will benefit Customers First? Why or why not?
- What is your opinion of Joan’s view on job analysis and job evaluation?
- What do you recommend that the compensation professionals at Customers First do? Why?
Guidelines for Submission: Your paper must be submitted as a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document (in addition to a cover page and references) with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Use at least three sources, which should be cited according to APA style.
