Question 1: Labor Unions

Summarize your understanding of union membership today in the US. What is the current status of union membership? Share some statistics and trends. Did you ever belong to a labor union? If you did, do you think union membership benefited you? If you did not, do you think a union would have benefited you? Why or why not?

Question 2: Safety and Security

Discuss some of the common safety and security concerns in today’s workplace. What are some important laws that may help organizations reduce risk? What are some strategies HR managers can develop to mitigate some of these issues? Use the resources provided to support your ideas.  Also, remember to reply to a minimum of two other student posts.

International Organization for Standardization

Students will visit the ISO website (https://www.iso.org/about-us.html) and be familiar with the ISO governance structure, vision, and purpose. The purpose of this assignment is for student to review ISO popular standards and select one standard with a case study to do a research. 

The final product will be about two pages writing (single space, Time NW 12) and 3 PPT slides covering the following items:

· A selected ISO standard with a brief summary of major points (standard’s name, description, purposes, requirement, and benefit), 100-200 words length.

· A case study under your selected ISO standard, a summary of major points should contain, but not limit to: company name, business background, type of ISO certification and benefits, problems (if any) and business improvement and performance, tools and techniques used in the implementation (e.g. LSS, quality, SWOT, problem solving tools,…).

· Any pictures, graphs, and diagrams related to the case study.

Assignment 3: Talent Management Strategy

Envision an organization (profit, nonprofit, product-or service-driven) with 200 people in which 20 are identified leaders.

With this organization in mind, write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1. Formulate a talent management strategy to encompass the entire talent requirements of the organization.
2. Determine the key components of talent management, including identifying, assessing, and developing talent.
3. Examine how the talent management process is a strategy for a competitive advantage for your organization.
4. Assess how the talent management strategy should change with the anticipation of the organization doubling in five to six (5-6) years.

There  is no doubt that social media has had an impact on how organizations  interact with future and potential employees. After completing your  readings for this week, answer the following questions:

Instructions

For this assignment, assume you are the owner of a small business in the Midwest with a sales force of ten people whose territories cover five states. Your sales force is commission-based, so their earnings depend on whether they exceed or fall short of their monthly sales quotas, which are determined by the company. At the time a salesperson joins the company, you have them sign an agreement acknowledging that they are independent contractors, not employees. The agreement prohibits them from representing any of your competitors, although they may do work for non-competing businesses. They must perform their sales duties themselves, and may not hire assistants without your approval and at no additional cost to your company. They are not reimbursed for travel, food, or lodging expenses. For convenience, they have access to cubicles at your main office, along with a laptop and cell phone, although they are not required to use the facilities or equipment. They do not receive benefits, such as sick leave, vacation, and holidays. They are paid monthly, and no payroll taxes or social security deductions are withheld from their checks. Since they are on the road a lot, you carry liability insurance. Your insurance broker told you that if they are injured while performing their duties, they could sue the company, so you told your workers’ compensation carrier that they are employees so they would be covered by workers’ compensation insurance. Although the salespeople are not required to report their hours worked each month, they are expected to meet or exceed sale quotas and complete monthly reports, indicating the number and names of clients contacted, follow-up calls, and related information documenting their activities. If they failed to meet their monthly sales quotas, they must provide a written explanation.

• Based      on the above information, prepare a 4-6 page, double-spaced essay      indicating whether the salespeople would more likely be considered as      independent contractors or employees, based on the IRS 20-Factor Test.
