Assignment Instructions

Every program has risks associated with it.  This week, I want you to review your idea and provide a risk analysis.  What are the potential risks involved with this program, and what processes can be put in place to manage these risks?  One specific risk that I want you to discuss is related to cultural differences.  Please assume that your company is a multinational corporation…will this program work in all areas of the business?  If not, how can it be adapted for the other country/countries involved?

This does not need to be written as a formal research paper, but all research provided does need to be cited in APA format.  You may write in the first person because you are presenting your own ideas.  You do not need to provide an abstract, but you do need an APA formatted title page and reference page.  Your paper should be a minimum of 2 pages (approx. 700 words) not including the title and reference.

Individual Paper- Each student will choose three cases, each from a different chapter, from the readings in weeks 5, 6 and 7 (Chapters 13, 14, 15 and 16). No students on a team will choose the same cases and there should be no duplicate cases. A Reference page should be provided. (100 points)

Use the following cases

Your responses should be well-rounded and analytical, and should not just provide a conclusion or an opinion without explaining the reason for the choice. For full credit, you need to use the material from the week’s lectures, text and/or discussions when responding to the questions.

Utilize the case format below:

Read and understand the case. Show your Analysis and Reasoning and make it clear you understand the material. Be sure to incorporate the concepts of the chapter we are studying to show your reasoning. Dedicate at least one sub-heading to each following outline topic:

Facts [Summarize only those facts critical to the outcome of the case]

Issue [Note the central question or questions on which the case turns]

Explain the applicable law(s). Use the textbook here. The law should come from the same chapter as the case. Be sure to use citations from the textbook including page numbers.

Holding [How did the court resolve the issue(s)? Who won?]

Reasoning [Explain the logic that supported the court’s decision]

Dedicate 1 sub-heading to each of the case questions immediately following the case. First, restate the question and then fully answer.

Conclusion. This should summarize the key aspects of the decision and also your recommendations on the court’s ruling

Include citations and a reference page with your sources. Use APA style citations and references.

Reflection.  The Week 8 submittal also include a separate reflection paper from each student.. The paper should be between 1-2 pages in length.. This should cover all of the work in this course. Students should address the three most significant cases or concepts they learned in our course with citations.  (50 points).

Rubrics:

Paper Rubric: 100 points (Each student graded separately).

Category Points Description:

• Use of Case Format: 60 Points (20 points per case). Paper is clear and fully contains the facts, issues, applicable law, holding, reasoning and conclusion. The presentation contains well rounded and analytical, and should not just provide a conclusion or an opinion without explaining the reason for the choice. The paper incorporates the concepts of the chapter from which the case was chosen.
• Case Questions: 30 Points (10 points per case). Dedicates 1 subheading to each of the case questions immediately following the case. Restates the question and then fully answers.
• APA Format: 10 Points.  Includes citations and a reference page with your sources. Use APA style citations and references.

Reflection Paper: 50 points. Each student will individually prepare a paper that reflects on their course learning and should be between 2-3 pages in length.  This should cover all of the work in this course. Students should address the 3 most significant cases or concepts learned in our course with citations. 

• Case or Concepts Presentation: 30 points (10 points each).
• Analysis: 10 points.  Presentation reflects higher level understanding and explanation of cases/concepts presented.
• APA Format: 10 Points. Includes citations and a reference page with your sources. Use APA style citations and references.

Read the hypothetical below. What are John’s potential claims if he is terminated this week?

John is a 54-year-old man with diabetes. He has worked for Telco for 20 years. Lately, he has difficulty concentrating and makes numerous mistakes. He has missed several days of work due to his diabetes. Supervisor Mark wants to fire John this week.

Instructions: Please write in essay format. Include the guidance below in your analysis:
a) Set forth the federal statute and/or theories of law that are applicable.
b) Identify the legal issue(s) that exist and claims that may be brought based on the facts of the case.
c) Apply the facts of the case to the elements of the law/theories of law.
d) Cite a case in the text which is on point with the scenario, or compare and contrast with a case in the text.
e) Provide an action item agenda of specific objectives you would recommend implementing in order to prevent future exposure to liability. Be specific (e.g., if training is a recommendation, describe the type of training in detail).

 As companies view themselves in a global marketplace the selection of locations for offices may take on a more strategic focus due to administration, marketing or tax reasons. Many firms are choosing to locate themselves in different international locations to maximize their organizational impact.

Write a page answering the questions below using resources in APA format with intext citations:

• Imagine your company has announced it is relocating to a country in which it does not yet operate. What factors would you include in designing a relocation policy?
• How would you select the employees for this assignment and why? 
• Discuss the various elements of compensation control.
• Distinguish among the various responsibilities in compensation administration.

Imagine that you are an emergency manager within your community. What are some of the leadership and management skills that you will need to possess in order to work alongside community stakeholders in disaster planning and during emergency situations?

Select a project to work on. Some options are listed below, select a project that you feel comfortable with, and understand (or feel you can easily learn about).

• Implementing a new process in an organization
• Opening a branch office/new location

• Deploying a product/service to a customer

Now that you have selected a project, you will begin to develop standard documents used to guide and support your work. In this assignment, you will be creating two separate documents:

1. A project charter
2. A request for proposal (RFP) for a portion of your project (assume that you are outsourcing one portion of your project)

The use of teams can bring about great change within an organization; however, effective outcomes often depend on how teams are assembled and incorporated. A key component to the assembly of a team is the level of diversity that will be included. As discussed throughout this unit, the presence of diversity can provide an advantage for a team but can also create some difficulties that must be overcome. The essay topic is the advantages and disadvantages of diverse teams within an organization. The following questions should be addressed:

1. What are some advantages to utilizing diverse teams within an organization?
2. What are some potential difficulties that might need to be overcome in order for a diverse team to be successful? 
3. What are some methods and tactics that can be utilized to overcome the potential difficulties?
4. As a conclusion, is it worth the effort to attempt to overcome the difficulties in light of the potential advantages of a diverse team?

Your essay should be at least three pages in length, including an introduction, a body of supported material, and a conclusion. The reference and title pages do not count toward the total page requirement. A minimum of three scholarly references are required. Please use the CSU Online Library to locate the supporting references to write this essay.

In your new role  as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for a major retail organization,  you have been tasked within the first 30 days by the CEO to conduct a  presentation to the management team on employment law awareness. The CEO  informed you that under the previous CHRO the company experienced lack  of employment law understanding, resulting in a few lawsuits that were  not in the company’s favor. Avoiding similar experiences is a high  priority and your thorough presentation to the management team is the  first big step to success.

Prepare a fifteen to twenty (15-20) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

1. Include cover, agenda, conclusion, and reference list slides, all of which may count toward total slide count. 
2. Provide a 1-2 slide overview of employment law based on information found in Chapter 1 of Employment Law for Human Resource Practice.  NOTE: You may use your discretion to decide what information needs to  be addressed as long as your overview is descriptive and relevant.

   • Provide a  three (3) slide minimum covering at least 6 strong bullet points  highlighting a discussion on the concept of employment discrimination 
   • Provide a  three (3) slide minimum covering at least 6 strong bullet points  highlighting a discussion on the types of discrimination 
   • Provide a three (3) slide minimum covering at least 6 strong bullet points highlighting a discussion on retaliation

In a persuasive essay, link organizational technology, value, and strategy. You may use a real-life organization you have researched (or worked for) in order to illustrate your argument. Cite at least one article using a CSU Online Library database to support your essay’s main ideas. Use section headers to share your findings, and persuade readers on the following topics:

• Identify three kinds of technology in an organization.
• Explain how different types of technology create different competencies.
• Describe how technology impacts organizational culture.
• Explain how technology can help organizational effectiveness.
• Relate how technology can propel an organization’s global expansion strategies.

You can find an article for this assignment by going to the CSU Online Library. Choose a database to search for your article, and then type key words in the database’s search box to find an article related to your topic. If you have any questions, the librarians’ contact information can be found on the right side of the library’s page.

Your essay should be two pages in length, not including the title page or reference page. You are required to cite at least one article from the CSU Online Library. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying in-text citations in the proper APA format.
