Public Policy and Response to Social Change

Discuss three models for the development of public policy (public choice, group theory, and elite theory) and the suitability of each model for human services. Recognizing that community opinion, informed small groups, or the political elite may be the dominant source of social problem identification, make a judgement about the best source on which to rely, depending on the subject matter. Draw on your reading of Simon’s Public Policy text, Chapter 2 when considering your analysis of whether one or another of the models is most suitable.

• Create a LinkedIn account (if you do not have one). Post one (1) message on LinkedIn to bring awareness to the service or product you have chosen.
• Find a YouTube video that is similar to your selected business or a generic video that could work for your business. Post one (1) message in the COMMENTS section below the video to bring awareness to the service or product you have chosen.
• Make sure to use at least two (2) hashtags in each platform post. Then, take a screenshot and insert it into a Word document.
• Below your screenshots, write one (1) paragraph describing why you chose your hashtags, how they align to your target market and industry, and how you think they will steer customer traffic to your social media site.

• As a social media manager, you will need to know which platform(s) will benefit your company. Analyze LinkedIn and YouTube. For each platform, examine items such as which consumer segments are using each platform, the type of products that should be used on each platform, the type of company that should use each platform, and the type of advertising message, etc. Justify your response.

As addressed in the readings, technology has the potential to both solve global social problems and make them worse. For example, technological devices that can interact with the environment have the potential to reduce world hunger by helping to increase food production in developing countries. However, some technological advancements—such as weapons of war and automated assembly lines—can threaten life through armed conflict, and pollution of the environment can increase poverty by eliminating jobs.

Do advancements in technology pose any direct and/or indirect threats to the global environment? Choose one advancement and provide two examples of direct or indirect threats in your explanation.
