Job Questionnaire

Understanding the major job functions, the activities associated with the job, and why the job exists are key elements needed to develop a credible job analysis. Using your current role or a previous role as the position to be analyzed, complete the position questionnaire. As you complete the position questionnaire, address specific work activities, the competencies required to perform the job, the activities associated with the job, and the reason for the position. Remember, this is not the actual analysis; this is the compiling of information for future analysis.

The important element of the assignment is to provide the key information needed for analysis. Attach your position questionnaire.

Leveraging Human Capital

Leveraging Human Capital

Throughout this course, you analyzed your current work environment to identify their acquiring, developing, and training practices. Employees are the biggest asset and contribute to the culture and overall performance of the organization. The final part of this project requires you to determine how to leverage on the human capital within your organization. Use the research you have complied throughout this course to determine how to appropriately develop and motivate your employees.

Develop a final written proposal (1,250-1,500 words), discussing performance indicators, rewards and incentives, and a plan for motivating employees. Your proposal must include the following:

  1. An evaluation of the current employee status. Describe tasks and performance indicators that contribute to the overall performance on the job.
  2. Develop strategies to encourage employees. How will you reward them for their performance and support them during difficulty?
  3. Describe strategies to leverage on employee assets. How will you identify their strengths and use them to better the performance and skills of individual employees?
  4. Describe a vision for the overall culture you aspire to develop in your organization.
  5. How will you integrate rewards and incentives to remain competitive in your market and appeal to your employees?

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

crisis management

When most people think about identifying a crisis or disaster, the first ones that come to mind are usually natural disasters like tsunamis, earthquakes, or draughts. Others may first think of wars, terrorism, or genocide. As counselor educators, you should be aware of all types of crisis that may occur, including business crises such as those that involve the global outsourcing of jobs or de-centralization of business functions. Political, personal, financial, or technological crises also are important categories to consider. For this Discussion, however, the focus is on the first types of crises mentioned—natural disasters and terrorist events.

Regardless of the type of crisis/disaster, the duration and intensity—or scope—of a crisis directs how your organization, community, or region will be impacted and the extent of the disaster response. The scope of a disaster also dictates whether an area is declared a disaster area by a nation’s leaders, whether assistance from outside your area will be needed, and the length of time necessary for disaster recovery efforts.

Another area counselor educators should investigate relates to the demographics of the crisis/disaster population. Knowing this information will inform you and first responders of cultural considerations involved. The U.S. Census Bureau Quick Facts provides age, gender, ethnicity, home ownership, language, median income, and education level for your state, county, and city. This demographic data may be explored online.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 2 in your course text, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape, focusing on the types of crisis trends presented.
  • Review the article, “Crisis in Context Theory: An Ecological Model,” and consider the proposed model for understanding the impact of crises.
  • Review the articles, “Latina Mothers’ Perceptions of Mental Health and Mental Health Promotion” and “Risk of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Depression in Survivors of the Floods in Bahir, India” to help you understand multicultural considerations related to crisis responding.
  • Review the articles, “Disaster Response: Mental Health Effects among WTC Rescue and Recovery Workers” and “Rescuing the Rescuers: First Responders at Risk,” for examples of health provider responses.
  • Review Chapter 3 of the video, The Soldier’s Heart, and consider the impact of combat on those in the military.
  • Review the articles, “The Hierarchy of Needs and Care Planning in Addiction Services: What Maslow Can Tell Us about Addressing Competing Priorities?” and “Basic Need Status and Health-Promoting Self-Care Behavior in Adults.” Think about how basic need satisfaction is correlated to health-promoting, self-care behavior and how this relates to crisis management and response.
  • Choose a natural disaster or terrorist activity that would affect your community to use for this assignment. Think about the ways in which it would affect your community. Please choose an event other than Hurricane Katrina.
  • Review demographics online at the U.S. Census Bureau Quick Facts website to determine the characteristics of those who might be affected by this particular event. If you live outside the U.S., research your location.
  • You should obtain data such as age, gender, ethnicity, home ownership, language, median income, and education level for your state, county, and city.

Discussion

According to the NASW Code of Ethics section 6.04 (NASW, 2008), social workers are ethically bound to work for policies that support the healthy development of individuals, guarantee equal access to services, and promote social and economic justice.

For this Discussion, review this week’s resources, including Working with Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Trauma: The Case of Rita and “The Johnson Family”. Consider what change you might make to the policies that affect the client in the case you chose. Finally, think about how you might evaluate the success of the policy changes.

Post an explanation of one change you might make to the policies that affect the client in the case. Be sure to reference the case you selected in your post. Finally, explain how you might evaluate the success of the policy changes.

Support your post with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Homework Question

Review the following four problem statements. Select one of the problem statements, and in your initial post, rewrite the problem statement in a clear, concise format as described in Chapter 3 of your textbook.

  • Our process for making widgets cannot fulfill the customer order requirements.
  • The process for admitting patients takes too long.
  • The applications for loans have too many errors.
  • Inventory is too high and needs to be minimized.

In your response post, offer critique of your peers’ problem statement rewrites. Offer suggestions for improvement or commentary as to why it is now a well-stated problem statement.

Comp6

You have recently been hired as the HR manager of a small furniture manufacturing company that has 63 employees. These employees include everyone from line workers to upper management. You are the first HR person the company has had. One of your first assignments was to evaluate the fairness of the company’s current compensation system.

Based on your evaluation, you have discovered a number of inconsistencies:

  • Some line workers earn more than managers.
  • Some managers earn twice as much as other managers even though the work is similar.
  • Some line workers are making significantly more money than others even though they are performing the same work.

What recommendations would you make to improve the consistency of the company’s compensation system?

  • Be sure to provide the rationale for your recommendations.

crisis management

People can react to crises and disasters in a variety of ways. Keep in mind, however, that mental health professionals do not label reactions as “symptoms,” or speak in terms of a “ diagnoses” or “pathology” when responding to survivors of a crisis. One interesting way to better understand the scope of survivor reactions is to think of them in the context of Bronfenbrenner’s Chronosystem Model, a lifespan perspective. Where crises are concerned, the lifespan begins when the crisis starts. Although, where interventions are concerned, the counselor leader must look into the person’s past for precursors that might impact current reactions. Precursors may influence a counselor’s and other responders’ susceptibility to vicarious trauma reactions as well.

Cognitive, psychological, and physical reactions are common after a crisis. These may include crisis re-experiencing, hyperarousal, and avoidance reactions, which may meet the requirements for symptoms described in the DSM-IV-TR for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). There are times when crisis responders allow survivors’ reactions to become their own, and secondary vicarious trauma or compassion fatigue may result. Helping professionals may be at risk for this to occur because of the nature of helping professionals’ commitment and involvement with clients.

When crises or disasters happen back to back, such as the 2010 massive earthquake in Haiti which was preceded by several destructive hurricanes, reactions of survivors and professionals who attend to them can be magnified.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapters 7, 12, and 16 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, paying particular attention to the possible consequences of trauma on counselors and other first responders.
  • Review the article, “The Effects of Vicarious Exposure to the Recent Massacre at Virginia Tech,” focusing on the results of the vicarious trauma study presented.
  • Review the article, “Psychological Problems Among Aid Workers Operating in Darfur,”and think about ways to help responders during and after crises.
  • Review the article, “Crisis Intervention with Survivors of Natural Disaster: Lessons from Hurricane Andrew,” and focus on factors related to crisis intervention and how these may differ from individual therapy interventions.
  • Review the article, “Disaster Response: Reducing the Psychological Impact of Disaster on Children,” focusing on ways to help children suffering from PTSD.
  • Review the article, “Preventing Vicarious Trauma: What Counselors Should Know When Working with Trauma Survivors,” and think about preventions associated with vicarious trauma.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 an analysis of implications of vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue for counselors and first responders. Be specific and provide examples.
