Community Policy Proposals

Community Policy Proposals

You will be using the results of your Unit 3 Community Assessment assignment as the basis for this assignment. You have examined the social change and public policy environment of your home community by surveying the population demographics (taking into account gender, race, and sexual orientation, as well as varied nationalities and their social and economic status) and explored public sources of information in order to identify demands for social changes in businesses, non-profits, and government. These demands reflect the possible need for public policy development.

  • Draft and present two possible policy proposals that respond to the specific public demands you identified in your community in the previous assignment.
    • These demands may apply to businesses, non-profit organizations, or government.
    • Utilize the document entitled, “Elements of a Standard Policy Statement,” which is located in your Social Policy Toolbox, to guide your development of these proposals.
    • Include a title for each proposal.
  • Write a 750-word summary of your two possible policy proposals, emphasizing these elements:
    • State the proposed policy on which you have decided, with the following:
      • A descriptive title.
      • A statement of the public entity for which the policy is intended.
      • The beneficiaries of the policy.
      • The human service outcome for social change.
    • State which actors in the home community may play a constructive and active role to advance the policy process, and identify the actors or factors that may pose as obstacles to your proposed policy.
    • State the key discussion points raised by your peers in support of or in opposition to your proposed policy.
    • State your rationale for choosing the policy proposal.

Discussion Questions

Before beginning work on this discussion forum, please review the link “Doing Discussion Questions Right” and any specific instructions for this topic.

Before the end of the week, begin commenting on at least two of your classmates’ responses. You can ask technical questions or respond generally to the overall experience. Be objective, clear, and concise. Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress. Submit your responses in the Discussion Area.

Introduction:

By the due date assigned, respond to the assigned discussion questions and submit your responses to the appropriate topic in this Discussion Area. Respond to the assigned questions using the lessons and vocabulary found in the reading.

Select any one of the following starter bullet point sections. Review the important themes within the sub-questions of each bullet point. The sub-questions are designed to get you thinking about some of the important issues. Your response should provide a succinct synthesis of the key themes in a way that articulates a clear point, position, or conclusion supported by research. Select a different bullet point section than what your peers have already posted so that we can engage in several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to reuse the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue.

Discussion: Federal Contract Compliance and EEO

: F

A voluntary self-identification form required by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) for federal contractors asks job applicants with disabilities to self-identify as disabled. This form is designed to help federal contractors and subcontractors meet Section 503 regulations, which set a target of seven percent of the workforce comprised of employees with disabilities. Nationally, there is a high rate of unemployment among people with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits businesses from asking specific questions about whether an applicant has a disability,

Now, for your first post, defend or challenge one of the following positions (“a” or “b”):

a. The use of the voluntary form results in benefits for everyone. The use of the form leads to expanded opportunities for people with disabilities, Moreover, through use of the form, employers have a better understanding of the composition and needs of their workforce, leading to higher employee productivity, which, in turn, benefits society.

or

b.  Applicants with disabilities should proceed with caution before self-identifying as disabled on this voluntary form. The employer may be able to satisfy some federal contracting requirements through these forms, but not every HR department is ethical and can be trusted to keep this information confidential in the hiring process. An applicant should wait until he or she is hired before deciding whether to disclose any disability; especially if the applicant has a non-apparent disability.

For either “a” or “b” above, bring in additional information from at least two reputable sources (library and/or Web-based).  Also bring in your own personal experiences, as applicable.

Subsequent Posts—Module 2

Challenge, defend, or supplement comments made by at least two different classmates. Bring in additional information specific to the discussion. Your additional information may be from the news, your readings/research and/or personal experience. Cite your sources.ederal Contract Compliance and  First Post—Module 2

“Practical reasoning represents the capacity to draw on knowledge and intellectual skills to engage concretely with the world. Practical reasoning allows the individual to go beyond reflection to deliberate and decide on the best course of action within a particular situation” (Colby et al., 2011: 60).

Amazon is disrupting at least 5 industries;  the culture of innovation combined with deep pockets makes it clear why Amazon will be the retailer to watch in any category. Amazon.com has been tiptoeing into the world of brick-and-mortar retailing for some time now. The 1,800-square-foot convenience store called Amazon Go that uses a simple premise of the proposition that you simply scan an Amazon Go phone app at an entry gate, shop for whatever you like and walk out the door. No checkouts, no card transactions, no bagging.  Amazon key is designed to allow in-home delivery when a customer isn’t there!

Amazon’s general counsel, David Zapolsky, had a lot on his mind last month when he and four members of his legal team visited the offices of New America, a liberal-leaning think tank in Washington. The retail juggernaut was days from announcing its $13.8 billion purchase of Whole Foods, a deal that would not only roil the grocery industry but also trigger a government antitrust investigation into the strategies and practices of the “Everything Store.”

Is amazon getting too big? Is this good or bad?  Who should be worried: consumers, government, competitors, everyone, or no one?

Use guided questioning, research both points of views, and critically analyze them. Please respond with at least 250 words. Once you create a thread, please respond to two posts (please make your response substantive not I agree or I disagree).

Topic 1: Labor Relations, Safety, and the Legal Environment of Human Resource Management

To practice for your unit Assignment discuss the all of the following topics. These should be relevant to your presentation Assignment.

  • What is the purpose of law for human resources management in health services organizations?
  • What are the three most important legal issues in human resources management?

Strategic Value of Employee Benefits Programs

To attract, motivate, and retain good workers, companies need to define what an employee wants from the employment relationship. One way to define employee needs is to consider “total rewards,” which are everything an employee perceives to be of value resulting from working for the company. Benefits are a core element of total rewards and the ever-growing package of offerings have evolved. You must now work with the company to define precisely where the various programs will be categorized.

Write a six-page paper in which you:

  • Identify and discuss at least three (3) important variables that almost always should be considered by organizations when providing employee benefits programs. Be sure the response is specific and relevant.
  • Compare and contrast income protection programs and pay for time not worked programs, both of which are usual elements of benefits programs. How are the programs similar? Are they mandatory?
  • Research and discuss at least four to five (4-5) of what may be referred as “Other Benefits” that you could recommend to the management team as necessary elements for the benefits package. HINT: Flextime and product/service discounts are good examples.
  • Develop an employee benefits package for any exempt or non-exempt position level of your choosing, making sure you support the selection of your program elements. NOTE: The preferred method for presenting your benefits package information is using a table or exhibit, but either approach is not mandatory. • Format your assignment according to these formatting requirements:
    1. Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format.
    2. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment (with running head), the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
    3. Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
