Training and Development

Imagine that you work for a global automobile manufacturer as a lead training and development associate. The head of human resources (HR) has had meetings with various departments, and a training need was identified by the sales department. Sales have dropped considerably in the last quarter, and through a training needs analysis, it was shown that sales associates lack the proper knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to effectively sell automobiles to various car dealerships in the United States and abroad.

The head of HR has asked that you give him or her a presentation on which major training theory you would recommend to apply to this scenario to equip the sales associates with the necessary skills to increase sales.

Select one training theory. This can be any of the four discussed in this unit or a training theory of your choice that interests you. Then, in your PowerPoint presentation, include the elements listed below.

  • Discuss the training theory and its primary tenets.
  • Explain why you recommend this theory.
  • Discuss two to three activities that you would build from this theory. For example, if you chose action theory, you may create group activities where sales associates run through sales scenarios with each other to see what works and what does not. Feel free to be as creative as you would like with your given theory.
  • Explain how your activities will address each learning style (i.e., visual, audible, and kinesthetic learning styles).

Your presentation must be at least 10 slides in length, not counting the title and reference slides. You are required to use at least one outside source and to utilize the notes section within PowerPoint. Within the notes section, include additional explanations for each slide. As you create your presentation, keep in mind that you are presenting for executives at your organization. All sources used, including the required unit resources, must be cited and referenced according to APA guidelines.

In Chapter 7: The Environment – Part II, Hite and Seitz (2016) discuss the existing tension between development and the environment. Development brings economic growth as well as social and environmental changes. To a developing country, economic growth may be of a higher priority than the consequences to the long-term health of its citizens or its environment. On the other hand, poverty can also harm the environment such as how searching for land to farm contributes to deforestation.

Do wealthy nations using the labor of developing nations have responsibilities to the people and environment of that country? Why or why not? Be sure to use examples of existing companies to support your response.

Review the posts of your classmates and respond to at least one other post, offering a substantive comment on that classmate’s position on the issue(s).

Part 5: Determine the Training or Intervention Cost and Quantify Expected Results

The fifth section of the Course Project is conducting a cost-benefit analysis. Training costs must be evaluated against anticipated results. This will only be palatable if, in the initial assessment, specific behaviors and processes and their impacts on the performance of the organization were determined. If so, conducting this final analytical segment should be possible.

Part 6: Develop a Method of Training Evaluation

Once you have completed the training, how will you know whether it has been successful? There are a variety of ways to evaluate training and development programs. Clearly identify the specific outcomes you expect from the project. Then develop a method of evaluating the effectiveness of your project.

Submit your assignment.

Project: Scholar-Practitioner Project: Literature Review and Problem Statement

This week, you begin development of your Scholar-Practitioner Project: Health Care Administration Leadership Theory. In order to achieve success in this program and as a future leader in health care administration, developing your skills for effectively assessing current literature and evaluating problems is critical. One of the goals of the Scholar-Practitioner Project is to help you develop such skills.

For this Project Assignment, think about common trends in health care administration leadership or critical areas of need for leadership in the field. Prepare a literature review of scholarly articles related to your topic. This review should contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed or scholarly resources. Additionally, based on your conducted review of the current literature, create a problem statement that addresses identified gaps while incorporating implications for positive social change. Located within the resources for the week, you may find the information from Walden’s Online Writing Center helpful for your completion of the Assignment.

  • For this Project Assignment, think about common trends in health care administration leadership or critical areas of need for leadership in the field.
  • Prepare a literature review of scholarly articles related to your topic in health care administration leadership. This review should contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed or scholarly resources.
  • Based on what you find in the current health care administration leadership literature, create a problem statement. It must address identified gaps while incorporating implications for positive social change.

Organize the Project in the following manner (each section should be represented for a comprehensive overview):

Literature Review and Problem Statement (5–7 pages):

  • The Literature Review section should be written in the narrative form, integrating concepts from the articles you find. The section should include:
    • A synthesis of a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed, scholarly resources that give the reader a good overview of the issue. The section should show the reader common trends in health care administration leadership or critical areas of need for leadership in the field.
    • A description of theoretical gaps in the research area. Based on the research you just did in leadership, what seems to be missing?
  • The Problem Statement should include:
    • An explanation of the specific problem that addresses identified gaps within the literature.
    • An explanation of how your problem statement incorporates implications for positive social change. As students at Walden, you are preparing to become agents of social change. Based on your leadership topic, the research you just did, and the gaps you found, how would you be a social agent for change?

Support your Project with specific references to all resources and current literature used in its preparation. You are to provide a reference list for all resources, including those in the Learning Resources for this course.
