There are many ethical issues facing the healthcare industry, several of which were discussed in this unit.

For this assignment, choose any one topic (or related topic) covered in this course and research ethical issues or dilemmas facing that particular area of healthcare.

Format: The following information should be addressed in essay format, in a minimum of three pages (not including title and reference pages). In-text citations are required for this essay.

  • Describe the issue
  • Determine causes/influences
  • Identify current policy and/or regulations relevant to the issue

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.

The major responsibilities of human resources management (HRM) are attracting, developing, and maintaining a quality workforce. Research an organization, with which you are familiar, that is in need of a change and present how you will manage the change process by incorporating the three essential duties of HRM. Throughout this assignment, teammates will need to demonstrate skills for effective collaboration, negotiation, and teamwork.

Each CLC group will choose one subsystem to change and create a PowerPoint presentation of 12-15 slides (including title and reference slides) addressing the following questions that pertain to the major human resource management responsibilities and to change management. Strengthen your recommendations by showing how your proposed changes are working in another similar organization that is successful.

Address following in your presentation:

  1. Provide an overview of the organization you have chosen including three subsystems of the organization, three stakeholders of the organization, and the reason for selecting this organization.
  2. What one major organizational subsystem needs to be changed in the organization? Justify your choice. How does it compare to a similar successful organization?
  3. How will the subsystem change affect the two other subsystems within the organization that you have identified and how will you realign the total system?
  4. Identify and explain how you would ensure that the proposed change will satisfy any three stakeholders of the organization?
  5. How should the organization attract, develop, and maintain the workforce required to bring about your proposed change?

Discussion 4.2: Measuring Intangibles

 

How can organizations measure intangible variables in such a way as to provide construct validity? In metrics many factors can be measured directly. In the Fitz-Enz text, we have learned for instance, that accountancy has matured to a degree in which companies can measure financial performance well. However, measuring intangibles or measures which do not allow for direct observation are more difficult. This perhaps is the reason there are many ways to measure leadership or organizational culture. The key to measuring these variables is to look at the direct impacts of associated phenomena. For instance, provide several ways in which you would measure love between people. Key: It cannot be measured directly.

APPLICATION OF HEALTH CARE INFORMATION SYSTEMS

 

Health care information systems implementation such as electronic health records (EHRs) require detailed planning, well-trained staff, and upper-management support in order to achieve a successful implementation. In addition, comprehending barriers to implementation and previous implementation failures is important to fully understand.

Case Assignment

In addition to your assigned reading, conduct a literature review of health care organizations that have implemented an EHR. Identify one health care organization in particular that has implemented an EHR. Create a 12- to 15-slide (not including title slide and reference slides) PowerPoint presentation on the implementation of an EHR within a health care organization. Provide a brief introduction about the health care organization, what type of EHR they selected, and their process for implementation (this should cover from the analysis phase to implementation). In addition, discuss some of the challenges they faced and how they overcame them. Finally, discuss any improvements in patient outcomes that the health care organization states (If the organization does not state any, simply put that on your slide.)

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT – WALMART

The Session Long Project is not a term paper due at the end of the course. Rather, the SLP acts as a vehicle to give the topics of each module a personal, concrete expression. These modular Session Long Project assignments are due at the end of each module.

I want you to pick an organization to examine throughout the rest of the course. It may be one you work for or it may not. You will be examining this organization for the following modules’ SLP assignments and responsible for locating at least three references to use in each SLP paper to support your discussion points.

This first SLP deals with the structure of this organization and its inventory management. In 3–4 pages (not counting the cover sheet and reference sheet), describe the organization to include these key areas:

  1. The name of the organization
  2. Its primary business
  3. Why you chose this business
  4. Its inventory management procedures. This is the key aspect of the assignment. Be sure to elucidate this in some detail. Does this company use VMI? Could it use VMI? What does it use to ensure it has the right inventory at the right time and control the costs?

SLP Assignment Expectations

Research the organization with information you can find on the internet or other resources you find on your own. The paper should be 3–4 pages in length and have a cover sheet and a reference page. Clarity of presentation is important, as well as your ability to apply the topics to the logistics area of your selected firm. Use at least 3 different sources of information and annotate your sources of information appropriately on your references page and within the text as necessary. You will be assessed on how well you demonstrate your knowledge of the topic as it applies to your selected firm. Submit your assignment for grading by the end of this module.
